Chapter 69 Town Cleanup

Chapter 69 Town Cleanup

"Damn it, what's happening outside?"

"Bullshit, it's not even dawn yet, why is it so noisy!"

"It sounds like the sound coming from the main gate. Strange, I haven't heard of anyone coming today. Could it be a caravan passing by?"

A series of chaotic noises came from the gate, waking the soldiers in Mole Town from their houses.

They hurriedly put on their leather armor and went outside, looking around the street in confusion.

The biting wind from the North made them hug their shoulders and chests, shivering uncontrollably.

The soldiers looked around, but did not hear their commander's call.

Their anger at having their dreams disturbed caused them to erupt in shouting, and the street quickly descended into chaos.

Just as they were getting tired of cursing and were preparing to go back to sleep...

Ahead of the street.

A terrified messenger ran towards them.

"Enemy attack! Watch out for a manhunt!"

Before he could finish speaking, an arrow shot from the high wall at the gate, chasing after him.

The messenger looked at his pierced chest, his eyes filled with helplessness, and stumbled before collapsing to the ground.

"Enemy attack?"

The soldiers in Mole Town looked at each other, finally realizing something was wrong.

However, it was too late.

At the open gate, the Iron Wall Battalion's shield and spear soldiers marched into the town in orderly steps.

Behind them followed a row of crossbowmen from the Divine Arrow Battalion, their crossbows raised high, ready to fire.

"Lord Bilad of Mole Town has betrayed the kingdom and deserves to die. He is now wanted by both the Kingdom of Rosa and the Duchy of Northern Frost!"

"By order of the Governor of Hanshui County, I have come to eliminate the traitor. Inform all soldiers in the town that this traitor is not worth fighting for. Lay down your weapons immediately and surrender, or you will be spared!"

Holmes, as the commander of the attack, was now standing in the middle of the shield and spear formation.

He shouted loudly at the soldiers.

Seeing that the soldiers were in a panic, not yet understanding the situation, and even showing signs of gathering together.

He issued the order with a cold look in his eyes.

"Release the arrows."

The first volley of crossbow bolts was fired from the front.

The primary targets were the well-equipped, conspicuous soldiers.

"what!"

"No, no, please let me go!"

"My hand! Oh, damn it, I've been shot!"

As the crossbow bolts fired in unison, the soldiers were caught off guard and unable to dodge.

Those who were unlucky were shot through vital organs on the spot and lay on the ground lifeless.

In addition, more soldiers hurriedly hid inside the houses, their eyes anxiously fixed on the unfamiliar army that had broken into the town.

The crossbowmen who had been firing retreated behind the shield-wielding spearmen and began to reload.

Those of higher rank among the enemy soldiers had their eyes light up when they saw this.

He rushed out of the house, brandishing his weapon and shouting:

"These damn bastards, brothers, let's get them!"

The officer in charge shouted orders, and after a brief hesitation, the other soldiers decided to step forward.

After a large number of soldiers gathered, they launched an attack at the soldiers' call.

Death and bloodshed erupted, plunging Mole Town into chaos.

Many soldiers charged frantically in front of the shield and spear formation, trying to break through the enemy's lines.

But they soon realized how foolish their choice was, as the chaotic charge was easily stopped by the shield and spear formation.

Immediately afterwards, spears were thrust out, and an even bloodier massacre erupted in the streets.

After several waves of attacks, the soldiers of Mole Town were terrified, and many of them quickly dropped their weapons and squatted on the ground to surrender.

However, many soldiers chose to turn around and flee, disappearing into the town.

"Iron Wall Battalion, First Battalion, advance towards the west side of the street; Second Battalion, advance towards the east side of the street. Crossbowmen, follow in formation, and ensure the disarmament of all forces within the town!"

Holmes ordered the troops to advance slowly.

He gradually relaxed.

The operation went smoothly, and after crossing the town's high walls, the remaining enemies roaming inside were no longer a threat.

"Stand still and don't move! Don't try anything funny! Or you're all done for!"

Mike, a member of the Ironwall Battalion, said coldly, holding a shield and spear.

Across from him, in the corner of the house, a couple and two boys were squatting.

In fear, the couple quickly covered their children's mouths and huddled tightly in a corner with them.

Seeing that this family was somewhat sensible, Mike snorted and glanced around the house.

The cramped shed couldn't hide anything; apart from a few wooden crates, everything was on full display.

Mike approached the wooden crate with expectant eyes and quickly opened it.

There were only two worn-out linen robes inside.

He closed the door irritably and looked around the rest of the room.

Besides two wooden beds, dried fish hung from the ceiling, and hardened black bread and sausages made from offal were placed on the table, emitting a slightly foul smell.

Mike looked very disappointed; he found no trace of soldiers or weapons.

After the battle in the streets ended, the soldiers of Mole Town scattered and fled.

To evade capture, the soldiers hid one by one under the thatched roofs of the sheds.

To eliminate these lurking threats, the shield-spear soldiers dispersed into smaller groups.

They moved in their respective squads, searching the town for enemy soldiers who had not surrendered.

This was the eighth house Mike had searched, but he still hadn't found a single enemy.

"Damn it, my merit points! Mole Town, damn it, these rat bastards really can escape through rat holes?"

The thought of Maud moving into a big house made Mike incredibly jealous, and his mood grew increasingly sour.

Suddenly, his gaze turned cold.

The object was thrown into the room at the man, and the two boys in his arms.

Anyway, merit points are calculated per person, so whose head doesn't matter!

Just as Mike gripped his spear, his eyes growing increasingly fierce, the squad leader's shouts came from outside.

"Has everything been investigated thoroughly?"

Upon hearing the squad leader's voice, Mike was startled, and his clothes on the back were soaked with cold sweat.

"Damn it, I've checked, it's not here!"

Mike grabbed the sausage next to him, took a vicious bite, and threw it back.

He gave a mumbled reply and walked out of the house, feeling distressed.

After he left, the couple inside finally let go of their child and relaxed.

"Once you've figured it out, move on to the next street."

Seeing the squad of soldiers gather, the squad leader gave them serious instructions.

"I'll remind you again, the army operates on a system of collective responsibility! If anyone dares to falsify data or use civilian casualties to represent battle results, our entire squad will be punished!"

"I won't even need Lord Holmes's orders; I'll expose that scoundrel who's been ravaging the squad!"

"Remember that?!" the squad leader roared menacingly.

"Yes, sir!" the squad of soldiers replied quickly.

Seeing several people looking at him, Mike glared back defiantly while chewing on a sausage.

What are you looking at? I'm a decent person, I don't do stupid things!
