Chapter 89 Two Mummified Corpses
Chapter 89 Two Mummified Corpses (3rd update after release)
The vampire named Eve crawled out of the bushes. She looked somewhat disheveled, her already tattered dress was even more torn, revealing large areas of skin, but there were no obvious wounds on her body.
She glared venomously at Lux, then glanced at the wand in Lux's hand, seemingly extremely wary of such power. Without lingering in the fight, she vanished into the darkness deep within the forest, disappearing as if into the shadows.
All that remained was the howling wind, two desiccated corpses quickly covered in snow, and Anthony, sprawled on the ground with his crotch soaked, muttering "Don't come any closer—don't come any closer—"
Vova stepped forward and kicked Anthony, who screamed like a startled rabbit.
Lux put away her wand, walked to the two dried corpses, squatted down, looked at the frozen fear on their faces, and sighed softly.
She turned to look at Anthony, who was trembling like a leaf, and her eyes sharpened.
"It seems our mentor, Anthony," she said to Vova, without caring whether he understood or not, "has a lot to explain to us."
Vova grabbed Anthony by the back of his collar and followed Lux down to the underground warehouse like a sack of potatoes.
Lux has confiscated Anthony's wand, and this old wizard, whose magical abilities are questionable, clearly lacks the ability to cast spells without a wand.
Anthony was still babbling in Russian, waving his arms and legs, trying to break free, looking like a round-headed old man being grabbed by the back of his neck.
"Shut up!" Lux, annoyed by the noise, lightly tapped the back of his head with the handle of her wand. "If you keep making a fuss, I'll break that broken wand of yours in half and grind it into powder to feed Lumi!"
Lumi, who was huddled in the basket, immediately poked her head out, staring at Anthony with her round blue eyes, making "boo boo" sounds, and even pawing at the air with her little paws, as if she were practicing how to snatch a magic wand.
Anthony's mouth snapped shut instantly, leaving only a muffled whimper in his throat.
Vova pushed open the door and shoved Anthony inside. Anthony stumbled and crashed into a shelf piled high with empty wooden crates. The crates clattered down, hitting him and making him wince, but he dared not make a sound.
"Speak, Anthony," Vova's voice was deep and menacing. "Where did that vampire come from? You'd better tell the truth, my patience is running out."
Anthony's Adam's apple bobbed violently, and cold sweat trickled down his temples.
He glanced at Vova, then at the seemingly harmless girl in the corner who had just fought off the vampire, her head wrapped in a headscarf, and his mental defenses completely crumbled.
Seeing that Anthony was about to cry, Lux immediately used her Polymorph to turn the shelf into an alarm clock and placed it on Anthony's head.
"Crying? Crying counts too! If you can't say it before the alarm rings, I'll treat you to some gossamer!"
"I'll talk! I'll talk!" Anthony huddled in the corner between the shelf and the wooden crate, his face pale.
"I—I just want to find a way to survive! The Ministry of Magic doesn't care about us wizards at all anymore; we can't even buy potions!"
Lux seized on the loophole in his words: "Didn't you say you used to work at the Ministry of Magic? How could your treatment be so bad?"
""
"I joined the Ministry of Magic because my family had a seat, but the new Minister re-evaluated the members, and I failed and was dismissed —"
"I knew even the worst employees at the Ministry of Magic wouldn't be this incompetent." Lux nodded in agreement.
After all, the old man was indeed weak, and he had built his team purely through swindling and deception.
He swallowed hard, raising his voice slightly, as if to bolster his courage: "I heard Grindelwald was recruiting, saying he could give us status and provide potions to help us develop our influence in the Soviet Union—so I contacted them through some channels. The Shinobi Party said they would send two special envoys to meet with me, but—when I finally found them, they were already dead!"
"Dead? Where did you die, and how did you die?" Vova demanded.
"I went to our agreed meeting point, but all I saw was blood on the ground!"
Anthony's voice trembled, "I panicked at the time, and it wasn't until I saw the Soviet soldiers burying the bodies in the woods that I was certain that the two mummified corpses were envoys of the Nazi Party, and that they both had tattoos of the Deathly Hallows on their bodies!"
Why is it the UMNO again? There must be some hidden connection between these things.
Lux quickly pieced together the clues: the mummified corpse in the cabin, the soldier who died after contacting the corpse, and Anthony, who is still alive after the attack—
She took two steps forward and pressed, "Is the rendezvous point you mentioned that abandoned wooden cabin about ten kilometers from here?"
Vova relayed the information to Anthony, who looked up abruptly, his eyes wide: "How did you know?! When I saw it, those Soviet soldiers in gray uniforms were already burying the bodies. I only went over to dig after they finished and left."
"Take us to the burial site. Now," Lux commanded, a cold glint flashing at the tip of her wand, her words leaving no room for argument.
Under the threat of the wand, Anthony stood up tremblingly.
The night was deep, and the wind and snow seemed to have stopped for the time being, but the cold was still biting.
The three of them trudged through the village, heading towards the old pine forest to the north. Anthony led the way, with Vova close behind, his gun pressed against Vova's back. Over the years, he still trusted his gun more.
Before a patch of snow-covered land, clearly disturbed, Anthony stopped, pointing tremblingly: "It's—it's here—"
Lux gestured for Vova to keep an eye on Anthony, then stepped forward herself.
She waved her wand: "Reveal your true form!"
The magical ripples swept across the snow, but apart from the soil and snow, there was no sign of any unusual magical reaction.
Lux frowned, crouched down, hesitated for a moment, and then used a gentle digging spell: "Shatter to pieces".
The spell controlled its power, carefully lifting away the frozen surface of soil and snow.
Soon, two hideous corpses, as if they had been dried out for a long time, were exposed to the cold air.
Even though he had seen it once before, Anthony was still so frightened that he closed his eyes, and Vova's brows furrowed even more.
Lux examined the body closely; it was indeed shriveled and gruesome, but more importantly—
She closed her eyes, concentrated, and carefully sensed the extremely faint magical fluctuations remaining on the corpse.
A trace of magic, yet one that felt strangely familiar to her.
This is LeBlanc's magic!
Without a doubt, these two so-called "Massochistan envoys" are simply clones created by LeBlanc!
Their purpose in coming here is probably not to meet with Anthony at all, but rather—
