My Pokémon Story of Seasons
Chapter 41 Nagi
Tong Hua was dumbfounded; she had to pass a test just to buy something.
As expected of the world of Pokémon...
"I can provide the fishing rod and bait for free, but if you break them, you'll have to pay the original price. How about it, want to give it a try?"
Nagi narrowed her eyes, a sly smile playing on her lips. Sunlight shone on her face, making her look just like a fox.
Tong Hua held the fishing rod, and the two little guys on her shoulders jumped down on their own.
"Game!" "Terrible!"
"Yes, of course we should try!"
"Okay." After receiving an affirmative reply, Nagi brought a plastic box from the wooden porch behind the house.
The box was filled with a large number of krill, which are used as bait for fishing.
The sounds of children playing and splashing in the water came from the side. Nagi glanced at them, then turned to Tong Hua and said.
"There are kids playing here, let's go fishing in the deeper water over there."
South of Chicory Village, near the coast, there is a breakwater.
The breakwater was built of grayish-white boulders, and the waves crashed against the stones, splashing up sparkling water droplets. Tong Hua followed Nagi to the end of the breakwater, where the water was noticeably deeper, shimmering with a deep blue-green hue.
The sea stretches as far as the eye can see, with no other islands or land in sight; only the clouds in the sky distinguish the boundary between the sea and the sky.
"not bad."
Looking at the scenery before her, Tong Hua was suddenly moved.
It's beautiful, absolutely beautiful.
In his previous life, he had never been to the seaside even once. This was the first time he had ever seen the real ocean.
Nagi walked barefoot on the rough breakwater, moving as nimbly as a cat. She casually put the plastic box on the ground and couldn't help but stretch.
"This is it." Nagi grabbed a handful of krill from the plastic box and helped Tong Hua put them into the bait trap.
"Then, begin your performance."
Tong Hua took a deep breath, feeling the slightly salty sea breeze, and gripped the fishing rod tightly.
As his profession automatically switched to fisherman, Tong Hua gradually became familiar with the fishing rod in his hand.
He recalled the method he had heard in the shop earlier and gently hooked the fishing line with his finger.
Then, the reel was turned on, and the bait cage and hooks began to descend slowly.
Tong Hua quickly stretched the fishing rod out to the sea in front of him, letting the hook fall into the water.
"Terrible." "Game."
Two Pokémon gathered in front of Tong Hua, curiously looking at the bait cage in the water.
The fishing line sank slowly, and Tong Hua could feel the subtle changes in the ocean current through her fingertips. Soon, the hook reached the bottom, and the fishing line on the rod became slack.
Seeing this, Tong Hua turned off the reel and began to slowly reel in the line. As the bait trap went up and down, the scent of the krill inside began to spread in the water.
The grass turtle and the foam squirrel were surprised to see a light red mist suddenly billowing from the bait cage full of small holes, which was very conspicuous in the clear water.
"Oh, you're quite skilled." Nagi stood to the side with her arms crossed, a hint of admiration flashing in her slender eyes. "Looks like you're not exactly a beginner."
Tong Hua didn't reply, focusing intently on the subtle vibrations from the fishing rod. The sea breeze ruffled his hair, and sunlight dappled the water with golden light.
Suddenly, the fishing line sank!
"They've taken the bait!"
Tong Hua instinctively wanted to pull up the hook, but the fisherman's passive skill stopped him from doing so.
"It's not time yet. We need to lift it slowly, trying to get all five hooks to bite!"
Suddenly, several silver flashes appeared within the red mist in the water, and five slender fish simultaneously lunged at the bait. Tong Hua slightly rotated her wrist, maintaining just the right tension on the fishing line.
"Three...two...one!" He counted silently in his mind, then suddenly jerked the rod up!
"Splash—!"
Five shimmering silver fish leaped out of the water at the same time, drawing graceful arcs in the sunlight.
"Wow, you caught five mackerel in one go? That's pretty impressive."
Nagi raised an eyebrow, but her tone remained languid.
"Is this alright?" Tong Hua shook the fishing rod, and the grass turtle next to him helped take the fish off the hook.
All five fish were small bamboo fish, the longest being 15 centimeters and the smallest less than 10 centimeters.
"Hmm, not bad, not bad." Nagi squatted down, took out a small box from the plastic box, filled it with some seawater, and put five small bamboo pods inside.
"Although this fish is not big, after you remove the internal organs, coat it in flour and deep-fry it, you can eat it from head to tail, even the bones."
Watching her movements, Tong Hua really felt that she was like a cat.
"Speaking of which...we haven't introduced ourselves yet?"
"Huh? Is that kind of thing really that important?" Nagi tilted her head, looking at Tong Hua with a puzzled expression.
"Of course it's important!" Tong Hua leaned her fishing rod against the breakwater stones and said earnestly, "We can only get along better after we get to know each other, right? My name is Tong Hua, and I am the rancher of Fairy Tale Ranch."
These are my pet tortoise and foam squirrel.
"Gamega!" The grass turtle proudly puffed out its chest.
"Squeak~" The foam squirrel waved its little paws happily.
Nagi stared at them for a few seconds, then suddenly burst out laughing: "Seriously... why are you taking this so seriously?"
She stood up, patted her shorts which were slightly wet with seawater, and said, "My name is Nagi, and I'm basically the shopkeeper of a fishing tackle shop and a river lifeguard."
A sea breeze blew by, ruffling Nagi's short hair, which she casually tucked behind her ear.
"Well then, Tong Hua..." Nagi drawled, then smiled, "Since you're so amazing, how about taking on an advanced quest?"
"Advanced quest?"
"Since you've come all this way to the beach, don't you want to catch some more fish?"
Upon hearing this, Tong Hua's eyes lit up. The novelty of sea fishing made him eager to try it, not to mention that catching fish could also give him experience points for his fishing profession.
"What advanced mission?" he asked impatiently.
Nagi smiled mysteriously and pulled a lead weight from the bottom of the plastic box. "Use this this time, you can catch even more powerful fish!"
The grass turtle and the foam squirrel curiously approached and saw that the lead weight was very small, less than half the size of the bait cage.
"Use this instead of a bait cage, and then cast the rod further out. You'll be able to catch the big fish you want."
Tong Hua took the lead weight and weighed it in her hand.
"You mean, if I change to this, this fishing rod will be able to catch big fish?"
Nagi nodded: "If you want to catch a certain type of fish, you need to change your fishing rig accordingly. That's the basics of fishing."
To catch fish, adjust the length of your fishing rod and line according to the waters where your target fish is located, and then add the appropriate accessories.
"This sounds a bit like an experiment. What kind of fish can you catch with this rig after replacing the sinker?"
Nagi blinked. "Well... please look forward to it."
Upon hearing this, Tong Hua's curiosity was piqued, and she quickly picked up the fishing rod next to her, unfastened the buckle, and replaced the bait cage.
"Do you know how to tie a plumb bob? You need to thread the line through and wrap it around a few times with a single knot to secure it," Nagi said from the side. Tong Hua's fingers flew nimbly in the sunlight as she followed Nagi's instructions to secure the plumb bob firmly.
"Be mindful of your surroundings when casting, especially if there are people nearby."
Before Nagi could finish speaking, Tong Hua had already executed a beautiful casting motion, the sinker drawing a silver arc in the air before landing far away in the deep water ten meters away. The grass turtle and the foam squirrel immediately gathered at the edge of the breakwater, their little heads almost sticking out of the stone embankment, their eyes fixed on the rippling sea.
The float bobbed up and down on the sea surface, swaying gently with the waves.
It was that familiar wait again; compared to catching small fish, catching big fish obviously requires a much greater investment of time.
Five minutes passed, and the buoy on the sea surface remained motionless.
Nagi lay to one side, lazily basking in the sun. Bored, the grass turtle played with the pebbles on the breakwater with its paws, while the foam squirrel dozed off at Tong Hua's feet.
"The sky is so blue... Why am I even standing here fishing?" Tong Hua exclaimed, holding her fishing rod.
"However, it feels good this way too."
Just as Tong Hua was relaxing and enjoying this leisurely time, the float suddenly sank!
The fish has taken the bait!
