My Pokémon Story of Seasons

Chapter 40 Fishing Tackle Shop

First and foremost, you need a new fishing rod!

No matter what, these are basic production tools that cannot be missing.

Tong Hua originally planned to make a fishing rod to replace the one that broke yesterday, but she couldn't find suitable materials to make fishing line and hook anywhere in the house.

So there's no other way but to buy it from a professional store.

"First, buy a fishing rod, then go to Chicory Wood Shop and ask Acorn Craftsman about the approximate price for building a house..."

Tong Hua silently planned out the most important tasks for the ranch at present.

First and foremost is the infrastructure. In addition to the wooden house where Tong Hua lives, there is also a Pokémon house where Miltank lives.

The temporary hut we're living in now has no windows, and ventilation depends entirely on the gaps in the fence gate. It'll definitely be stuffy in the summer, and it'll also get rained on when it rains.

In addition, the roads in the ranch become muddy after it rains, and it's inconvenient to go out at night without lighting.

Speaking of road repairs, Tong Hua thinks the road from the village to the pasture should also be repaired. It doesn't have to be paved with asphalt, but at least it should be made into a smooth cement road!

This truck must have been so bumpy the whole way here! It would have been much more comfortable to tow a worm!

"Sigh..." The foam squirrel was a little uncomfortable from being jostled around and whimpered in Tong Hua's arms.

"Game?" The grass turtle was in a better mood and even had the mood to care about the foam squirrel.

Fortunately, the truck soon arrived at its destination. Tong Hua quickly picked up the food basket and got off at the village entrance with the two Pokémon.

"Thank you, Creation One. Next time..."

Tong Hua initially wanted to say that she wouldn't ride in your car next time, but after thinking about it, she felt it might be inappropriate.

"See you next time. Please give my regards to Renmei and Captain Guanglang."

"Alright!" Chuangyi waved cheerfully and stepped on the gas pedal with great enthusiasm.

The truck roared away, kicking up a cloud of dust.

Tong Hua dusted off her clothes and looked down at the foam squirrel in her arms: "How are you feeling? Any better?"

"Sigh..." The foam squirrel was still not very energetic, it seemed to be suffering from severe motion sickness.

Tong Hua had no choice but to continue carrying the foam squirrel and walking towards the village with the grass turtle.

……

At the riverside crossroads in Chicory Village, there is a small fishing tackle shop.

It was a single-story house with blue bricks and gray tiles, and a wooden eaves. A faded blue cloth banner with the shop's name written on it hung at the entrance.

Two low bamboo stools are placed under the eaves for villagers to rest and chat, and a wooden frame for repairing fishing nets is piled up in the corner.

The person who runs this small shop is named Nagi, or Shiozaki Nagi, but generally no one calls her by her full name or surname.

Everyone calls her Nagi, and the younger ones add the suffix "-sister".

When the weather is nice, she always sets up a deck chair and lies idly by the small river behind the shop, with a fishing rod beside her but not fishing. She just lies there sunbathing, like a cat.

"Ah~ I yawn..."

Nagi yawned lazily, the sunlight making her drowsy. She squinted, staring blankly at the river in front of her.

Beside me is a charming cat that is already asleep and snoring.

Suddenly, several children came over with their Pokémon to play in the water.

It rained all day yesterday, and the river rose a bit, but thankfully it has receded today.

"The sun's finally out, Lotus Leaf Boy, let's play!"

"Splash!" A little girl with pigtails jumped into the shallow water first, splashing a spray of water.

The lotus leaf buds beside her slapped their leaves merrily, making a "plop plop" sound.

The other children also took their Pokémon into the water, and the group splashed and played in the stream, creating a lively atmosphere.

Nagi watched them play with half-closed eyes, a slight smile playing on her lips.

"Knock knock knock!"

Suddenly, there was a knock on the door from behind.

"Tsk...Here it comes!" Nagi sat up and called out towards the shop entrance.

She stretched, and her loose linen shirt slipped off her shoulders, revealing one of her tanned, wheat-colored shoulders.

She was in her early twenties, with messy, light brown short hair, the ends of which curled up slightly, like dandelions blown about by the river breeze.

Beneath her bangs were a pair of amber eyes, always half-closed, with a lazy smile, and a small beauty mark at the corner of her eye.

Her skin wasn't fair; it had a healthy tan from years of sun exposure, and a few faint freckles were scattered on her nose and cheeks.

Nagi walked barefoot on the wooden walkway and strode quickly toward the shop entrance.

"Knock knock knock!" The knocking sounded again, this time more urgent.

"What's the rush..." Nagi muttered, casually scratching her hair as she slowly walked towards the shop entrance.

Her back was slender yet upright, and every movement exuded a casual yet resilient air.

The shop door opened, and standing at the entrance was a stranger carrying a basket, with two Pokémon perched on his back.

"Hello, I'd like to buy a fishing rod."

"Come in."

Tong Hua walked into the store and looked around. Her first impression was that the store's layout was very compact.

There is a counter in the entrance area, and the rest of the space is almost entirely filled with shelves.

The shelves are tiered with small items such as fishing lines, floats, and hooks, as well as various fishing rods, landing nets, and waterproof tools.

Although the goods are arranged by category, they still look very messy.

It's as if the store deliberately places things randomly so that customers have to spend more time looking for what they want.

Nagi casually pulled a bamboo pole from under the counter and twirled it in her hand: "Beginner?"

What kind of fishing do you prefer? Hand rod or casting rod?

"Uh..." Tong Hua paused for a moment, then subconsciously said "casting rod".

"You're a newbie, aren't you?" Nagi looked at Tong Hua's slightly nervous expression with amusement.

Have you ever tried lure fishing? What kind of fish are you looking to catch?

Faced with Nagi's series of questions, Tong Hua was completely bewildered and didn't know how to answer.

Nagi seems to be enjoying this predicament, like a supermarket cashier who rushes to pay when the parents of a child run away, and then asks the child if they have any money...

"Anything is fine. I'll just fish near the village. I'm willing to try any fishing method." Tong Hua finally blurted out this after holding back for a long time.

"Oh, then..."

Nagi stepped out from behind the counter and began rummaging through the shelves.

"Let me show you around with a bait trap, a surf rod for long-distance casting, and a multi-hook rig. You can go fishing for small fish at the seawall near the village."

Nagi picked up a three-meter-long fishing rod from the shelf and then selected a lot of accessories.

"You seem a bit clueless, so I'll just provide you with the fishing line and rig."

Nagi returned to the counter, and Tong Hua watched as she skillfully assembled the various parts.

A long fishing line, a small reel with the line wound around it, a bait cage full of small holes, and a string of five small fishhooks—all sorts of tiny parts were being assembled by Nagi in her hands, leaving Tong Hua stunned.

"A three-meter-long fiberglass rod, with a No. 2 nylon line as the main line... But you probably wouldn't understand what I'm saying, anyway, it's more than enough for catching small fish."

When fishing, put the bait into the bait basket and then thread it onto all the hooks. When letting out the line, turn on the reel, and after it touches the bottom, turn it off and slowly reel in the line.

As the bait trap is lifted, the bait inside spreads in the water, attracting fish.

As Nagi explained, she handed the assembled fishing rod to Tong Hua. Her fingers were long and nimble, and her movements were clean and efficient, a stark contrast to her previous lazy demeanor.

"That's 3500 Alliance Coins in total." She yawned and resumed her lazy demeanor.

"3500?" Tong Hua took the fishing rod. Although he didn't know much about prices, the rod looked like it was worth the price.

Anyway, it's definitely much better than that broken fishing rod the village chief gave me.

but……

"Is this fishing rod only suitable for catching small fish?"

"Yeah," Nagi nodded, then yawned. "I'm a beginner, so I'll start by fishing for small fish to practice. What, you want to catch a Gyarados right away?"

Tong Hua scratched his head: "But catching small fish isn't very interesting."

I want the thrill of battling against a big fish.

"Haha." Nagi suddenly burst out laughing.

"Alright then, come with me."

Nagi led Tong Hua back to the stream behind the shop.

Let's go fishing.

"what?"

"Use your fishing rod to catch fish in this river. If you succeed, I'll sell you a fishing rod that can catch big fish."

Do you dare to try?
