Chapter 988 The Strongest KD in the Fighting World

Peter was speechless when he heard the term "Cosmic Cube," not because he was about to be reminded of the Cosmic Cube again, but because if he remembered correctly, things like the Cosmic Cube and the Infinity Stones should have been confiscated by the Beyonders.

Where did this cosmic cube come from?

"It was Hydra that got it. After a Hydra-ruled world was destroyed, it became part of the Battle Realm. That is, the 'New Order' region marked on the map." Peter recalled that the Cosmic Cube in his universe was developed by AIM, and A.1.M. was an organization heavily funded and infiltrated by Hydra. So it wasn't particularly surprising: "So, it was this group that created the new Cosmic Cube?"

The octopus-like remains chuckled: "If that's the case, then what's the difference between this and not restricting the Cosmic Cube and the Infinity Stones at all? Of course not. It's that this new Hydra has accomplished the most straightforward and efficient task in the shortest amount of time, eliminating those it deems elites," slaughtering tens of millions of people across its entire territory. In the week or so since the start of the Battle Realm, they've essentially wiped out their entire territory, gaining a sufficient amount of—what points—in exchange.

Peter opened his mouth, somewhat incredulous. He really hadn't expected that there was such a way to get points, but upon closer inspection, something didn't make sense: "Similar methods could be used by Apocalypse or anyone else; there's no reason why Hydra would be the first to accomplish this."

If it were truly possible to achieve such a high score and obtain the Cosmic Cube simply by killing people, then Hydra would have already taken all the artifacts on the leaderboard. However, Peter took another look and discovered that among the unique artifacts, only the Cosmic Cube had been acquired by Hydra.

"Hydra must have used some far more sinister method to get the Cosmic Cube, but we can't think of one right now, and we don't know how to figure it out." Miguel told everyone to ignore this problem that was currently unsolvable. "There are two questions now. First, why would Hydra want to alter the reality of Spider-Island and erase Spider-Man and the villains from that world?"

"Is that even a question?"

The octopus remains chose to tell everyone the answer directly: "Of course, it's because the more than ten million spider-type ability users constitute an incredibly large army. Every time Hydra uses the Cosmic Cube, it could expose that they obtained this artifact, and there are indeed people in the Battle World who possess the ability to resist the Cosmic Cube's reality-altering capabilities."

"So this leads to the second question. Why did Hydra only eliminate Spider-Man and his enemies in this world? Ultron has infiltrated the entire network in Tokyo, confirming that Hydra didn't conduct any surveillance or infiltration at all."

They looked at each other, seemingly understanding something. The reason Hydra hadn't infiltrated at all was most likely because of the Successors. For Hydra, the Successors were a highly unpredictable entity; besides feeding on spider totems, their other abilities were unknown.

If Hydra were to directly and extensively alter reality, transforming or infiltrating the people of Spider Island, and if the successors were no longer affected by the Cosmic Cube, then Hydra's investment in Spider Island would be entirely ineffective.

This may also explain why Hydra, or at least the person who succeeded Hydra, was very cautious.

"In other words—" Spider Gwen understood, "our time is running out. As soon as the successor is killed or their abilities are verified, Hydra will reshape the entire Spider Island?"

"Or perhaps, Hydra has been monitoring Spider Island all along, just not through the Internet."

Peter looked at Doctor Octopus in the jar as he spoke. Just like Otto in the Kang Dynasty who defected to Kang in exchange for a position in the New World, Peter was not surprised that Doctor Octopus had defected to Hydra.

Moreover, what could be a more secure and covert surveillance system than the lingering consciousness of Doctor Octopus's corpse? No one would even consider this possibility; no one would believe that a corpse could be the central hub of the entire information processing.

Peter asked a question that Otto thought was a bit silly, but Peter chose to go a step further: "In that case, you have nothing to be afraid of, Otto. Can you take over the octopus robot army?"

Octopus Bo Corpse didn't react for a moment, but then, as he felt all his drones go out of control, even the most foolish person would know what had happened.

"Damn it! This is ridiculous! How could Otto Octavia be Spider-Man?"

Otto's electronic voice distorted, but still carried an air of anger: "Still a hero."

"I didn't expect the Transcendent Beacon to be with the Octopus Corpse."

The voice of the Ultimate Octopus came from the other end of the communication: "So what's our next step? To go and fight Hydra to the death?"

"We might not have enough time—"

Peter seemed to have thought of something at this point: "Unless we do what Hydra does and cheat to get points."
