Chapter 987 Octopus Remains

Peter never imagined that Otto would actually be able to win the resurrection match. What is it that Doctor Octopus's body, after failing to possess Spider-Man, was turned into a wet computer and then awakened Doctor Octopus's self-awareness?

If that were really the case, why would Otto need to possess anyone? He could just follow Ultron or Arnim Zola and achieve digital ascension ahead of time, right? Instead, he created all this trouble.

Furthermore, Peter knew that Doctor Octopus's mind was locked onto the octopus robot, and not only Peter, but many others did as well. If we delve deeper into this point, even more questions arise. For instance, given that Otto cloned so many bodies, could every single clone have become this resurrected data ghost?

Hydra definitely recovered a few, and S.H.I.E.L.D. certainly had some as well. Of course, S.H.I.E.L.D.'s recovery to some extent meant Hydra also recovered some. Peter had complete faith in their moral integrity; if they had known Otto's Ruler Body had this function, they definitely would have used it. The only question was whether they knew or not.

Besides, Osborn is also a possibility. After all, Norman has quite a criminal record. Although he now acts like "I'm a good father without the Green Goblin," it's not impossible that he hid a few clones of Otto's body and developed some kind of robot army.

Peter was absolutely certain that the other organization that had fully taken over Otto's research was the Avengers, or more precisely, Tony Stark. However, Peter trusted Tony implicitly; given his arrogance, he certainly wouldn't use Otto's body as a makeshift weapon, but rather would use his own brain signals to create a more powerful and efficient Iron Legion network than Otto's.

But the others present were unaware of these things. Frankly speaking, there weren't many Peter Parkers in either of the two spider teams, and few of the remaining Peter Parkers could push the enemy away so quickly. So everyone looked at Peter, and finally, Miguel asked the question: "Is this possible?"

"Huh? What's that possible?"

Zeger repeated: "Otto's body still retains his will."

"If you really want me to answer, then I can only say I don't know. I have no experience fighting octopus zombies. And I hope he doesn't. There are twenty or thirty octopus zombies in our universe. If they all came back to life, that would be terrifying."

—What do you mean by twenty or thirty Doctor Octopus corpses? Almost everyone present was dumbfounded, but Peter clearly didn't want to answer the question. The thought of possibly having a bunch of these things in his universe gave him a stomachache, so he quickly changed the subject and asked Ultron's Spider-Man, "Where is that guy? I'm going to go see him."

"Did you see the Beyond Company logo?"

Ultron's Spider-Man looked at the neon sign of the largest building in Tokyo: "It's right there."

Having temporarily eliminated the threat of the heir, Peter finally had time to appreciate Spider Island 2099. The entire city was covered by a hazy sky, making it feel like it was either raining or on a rainy day. The city center was a huge steel forest, with neon lights mixed with water mist, casting a colorful light in the sky above the city, causing everyone to ignore the places that could not be illuminated by the light.

It perfectly matches Peter's entire vision of cyberpunk.

"So, why is this place called Spider Island? I don't remember Tokyo being an island, right?"

Peter swung along his webs toward the headquarters of Beyond Corporation. He remembered that Marvel seemed to have its own Beyond Corporation, but he didn't know the details. He was more curious about why Tokyo had become Spider Island, the key being the word "island."

"According to Ultron, it was because of a war, during the World War, that the old Tokyo became like the Netherlands, with the entire city sinking severely and falling below sea level. In order to protect the entire city, it had to be isolated, thus becoming a huge isolated island separated from the Japanese mainland."

Upon hearing Ultimate Spider-Man's explanation over the communicator, Peter let out an "Ah-ha," unsure of what to say next. He quickly leaned against the outer wall of Beyond Corporation, accompanied by Sakura Spider-Man and Shadow Spider-Man. One was a Tokyo native (though supposedly from 2014), while the other was skilled in observation and infiltration, proving helpful in this operation.

Peter arrived at the floor provided by Ultron's Spider-Man. Anti-Venom then enveloped Peter's hand, and his five fingers transformed into sharp claws capable of cutting a large hole, allowing the three people to crawl through.

As for alarms, they've already been disabled by Ultron and Spider-Man.

"So, this is actually a second New Tokyo?"

"I know what you're talking about, but this is actually the Third New Tokyo City, because Tokyo was already destroyed once in a nuclear war before this."

"Alright, it really is the Third New Tokyo City—" Peter muttered as he continued forward. After all, Penny's SP//er mecha was clearly a reference to his EVA, so it was only natural for him to make the same connection.

As they walked through the high-tech-style corridors of Beyond Corporation, Peter first noticed something unusual: the walls on both sides of the space were inlaid with high-tech equipment, all of which belonged to Spider-Man's villains.

No, it should be said that it's Spider-Man's villainous gear from 2099, and the technology in it is far more advanced than any villain Peter knows.

The Shadow Spider remained expressionless—he couldn't understand either the technology of 2014 or 2099. The Cherry Blossom Spider, however, stared wide-eyed in disbelief.

Peter's spider-sense reacted slightly, and he walked to a huge cylindrical glass jar containing something that looked like either nutrient solution or electrolytes. Inside that jar was a horribly shriveled-up Doctor Octopus, covered in tubes.

But what's really strange is that, according to the instrument tests, it was a completely dead body.

"Hmm... Is this thing really alive?"

Just as Cherry Blossom Spider was about to go closer to take a look, Shadow Spider-Man grabbed her shoulder and then four mechanical arms appeared around the incubation tank, extending outwards.

Spider-Man—My Enemy from Another World—

"I can hardly say whether you can still be considered an enemy, Otto, after all, Spider-Man of this world has disappeared."

""

The octopus doctor inside the jar laughed after hearing this: "Of course I know, and I also know who did all this."

"Excuse my bluntness, Spider-Men from another world, you have no way to fight against the power of the Cosmic Cube."

After a brief silence, Peter answered: "I have experience with the Cosmic Cube, twice."
