Chapter 625 The Wolf Returns Home

Chapter 625 The Wolf Returns Home

Rune walked up to Logan, believing that the guy had the potential to become Wolverine again and that he still had guts and wasn't beyond redemption.

The mage raised his hand, and pale green life force slowly enveloped Logan's body. This energy was very gentle, like a gentle stream, delicately and quickly repairing his broken bones and hideous wounds.

A few moments later, Logan's wounds had all healed, but his face was still pale and he was still unconscious.

Rune possessed Logan and gently picked him up. He then used magic to remove the heads of Crossbones and Taskmaster. He then walked slowly toward the cabin. Although it looked slow, Rune's speed was actually ridiculously fast.

Because the space was compressed and squeezed by his transformation spell, each step Rune took covered hundreds of meters, and soon he returned to the dilapidated wooden house.

In front of the cabin, the other mutants stood guard warily, while the bartender chatted with Asri and Judd, hoping to persuade the two children to return to their territory.

In fact, they have done this more than once. Mutants are actually very united. They have suffered oppression from ordinary humans for a long time, so they are more empathetic to each other and have a stronger sense of cohesion.

And coincidentally, right next to this wasteland is the mutant kingdom of Krakow.

"—It was the White Queen who begged our great leader to rescue the mutants in this wasteland, and Xavier agreed with his idea," Andrei said. In order to gain the trust of the two little girls, he had to explain the cruel history in a relatively lighthearted way.

"But what about my father?" Judd asked calmly. "You could have saved my father, you could have—"

"You're thinking too simply, child." Andre's face was full of deep helplessness. "Krako is indeed a nation of mutants, but before the name of a mutant nation, it is first and foremost a member of the great God-King Doom."

"Lord Doom places great importance on the stability between the various territories, and anyone who goes against his will will suffer terrible punishment."

Andrei's eyes dimmed. Some members of the royal family, in their efforts to rescue persecuted mutants from elsewhere, were punished by God-King Doom, exiled beyond the Southern Wall, and ultimately either became part of the zombies, were devoured by the Annihilation Clan, or were killed by Ultron—

The Queen of Gods couldn't always be by the Lord of Gods' side, and without Susan, Doom was terribly harsh.

“We cannot directly confront the lords; we can only rescue mutants from other territories in secret,” Andrei sighed. “But even this is still limited. We cannot directly take away heroes and their offspring, who are often under the surveillance of various lords.”

"Oh! My dad's a hero too, right?" Asri laughed and nodded. She believed Andre, the man who could beat her up. She believed that no one in the entire wasteland was stronger than Logan.

Andrei smiled, but there was a bitter tinge to his smile. "Yes, your father was a hero, and a great hero at that!"

But Judd was smarter; she noticed the flaw in their words. "If you couldn't take the heroes and their offspring, why are you now able to openly rescue us?"

"Of course it is—"

Before Andrei could finish speaking, they heard a commotion outside. Jad and Esley looked out the window and saw Logan covered in blood in the mage's arms. They could no longer contain themselves and rushed out.

Seeing this, Andrei waved his hand, signaling everyone to rest assured that it wasn't an enemy. He had dealt with him before, and although the outcome wasn't good, at least he hadn't been killed.

Besides, what if they resist? Andrei felt that even with the other three mutants, they probably wouldn't last a single round against the enemy.

This is someone even Logan couldn't handle.

Aisley stepped forward to check Logan's injuries. Although her father was covered in blood, his breathing was quite steady.

Judd hesitated for a moment, not because she wasn't close to Logan, but because two heads were still hanging over Rune's head! She didn't inherit Logan's courage, and Judd was terrified.

Ashley breathed a sigh of relief and said to Judd and the others, "It's okay, my dad's blood is all other people's. He's just asleep right now."

Everyone visibly felt much more relaxed.

"Thank you," even with his courage, Judd still hesitated before the two severed heads, standing a short distance away with his eyes half-closed as he thanked Rune, "Thank you for killing those two bastards and saving Logan—"

Upon hearing this, Rune gently shook his head. He placed Logan on the old bench in front of the house, then placed the two heads on the ground beside him, and calmly said, "There's no need to thank me like this. It wasn't me who killed Taskmaster and Crossbones, it was him."

"He carried out his revenge through his own will," Rune shrugged. "I merely healed his wounds."

Judd and Ashley were stunned, then looked at Logan on the bench. They almost immediately realized that not all of Logan's blood was from the enemy—otherwise, their father wouldn't be sleeping so soundly in broad daylight.

They could even imagine the brutality of this revenge.

Judd's eyes immediately welled up with tears. She quickly walked to Logan's side and gently took his cold hand in hers. Asley turned her head away, pursed her lips, and after a long while, said in a trembling voice, "That's amazing, Dad."

Andre and the other mutants gathered around. Andre proudly said to the other three mutants, "Look, this is my idol. Even though he was punished by God and lost some of his superpowers, he was still able to kill notorious villains like Taskmaster and Crossbones."

"But I still prefer Cyclops," one of the mutants whispered, but Andrei ignored him.

After a long while, Jad finally snapped out of his grief and pride, turned to look at Andrei, and continued to question him: "You still haven't answered my question."

"Wh--Oh! You mean why we were able to rescue you so brazenly, without fear of being pursued by the lord here, right?" Andrei suddenly realized, and he glanced at Rune with concern, seemingly considering whether he should reveal the reason in front of this unknown figure.

But in reality, Jade trusted Rune more than Andrei, since he did bring his father back safely from the tavern and even provided them with several sumptuous meals.

Seeing the other party's concerns, Judd said directly, "I believe him, please continue."
