Chapter 571 The Orcs' Chance to Atone
Chapter 571 The Orcs' Chance to Atone
Rune watched with mixed feelings as the green-skinned creature, with his help, killed the five Parademons.
The Parademons below were thrown into utter chaos after losing their commander. They continued to fight desperately, but to little avail, as they were facing not only elite orc soldiers and dragons, but also rune golems attacking from all sides.
So far, Rune's puppets—whether companion or combat type—haven't received a single negative review.
Moreover, on the other side, the Alliance forces of Azeroth, led by Thrall, Jaina, Tyrande, and Malfurion, have also landed and are surrounded by countless guardian dragons, making their offensive even more intense than that of this side.
Now, let me see what cards you have up your sleeve!
Rune narrowed his eyes, feeling that the Dark Lord atop Mount Hyjal would be a stunning gift.
The surviving Kor'kron Guards regrouped and continued their advance towards the summit. Nazgrell, however, was pulled back to the rear by Rune; his injuries were truly severe, and if he were allowed to continue charging, the orc might die there.
He won't know how to explain this to Sal then.
Nazgrell remained relatively calm, panting heavily as he stroked the white wolf beside him, while Rune continued to observe the battle situation. As he had expected, the entire front was steadily advancing, and Kane's ability to lead troops was quite good.
Beside Nazgrel lay several Kor'kron guards, all covered in wounds. As the commander of this operation, Nazgrel, after recovering, stood up again and checked on his comrades' injuries.
"Rune, can you tell me what role you played in this?" His deep voice reached Rune's ears, and Rune turned to look at the orc.
Nazgrell didn't look directly at the rune; he focused solely on the Kor'kron Guards before him. Even after Mannoroth's death, some orcs would still be driven into a frenzy by the influence of demon blood, charging into battle regardless of their own wounds.
Although orcs possess exceptional physical attributes, their regenerative abilities are far inferior to those of trolls. This is why the Kor'kron Guard lies here.
"What, you think I'm one of those people?"
Faced with Rune's questioning, Nazgrell nodded. "Otherwise, how would you explain knowing those five Parademons? Although you're helping us, it's also a test, isn't it—"
It seems not all green-skinned orcs have muscles in their brains.
"I was indeed testing you." Rune nodded directly, agreeing with Nazgrell's idea. He didn't bother to hide it. "But I can tell you very clearly that this is not just a test, my friend, it is also a trial."
"I do know the five Parademons you killed, but the person I knew was fundamentally different from these ugly creatures."
Rune approached Nazgrell, a very displeased expression on his face. "The man I know did something just as noble as that great chieftain you admire. He brought peace to his people and to other peoples, even if it was only temporary—"
"He gave up his wealth to save his kind; in that respect, my friend, he surpasses Sal!"
"I will not allow you to slander my chieftain!" Nazgrel stood up straight. In terms of height alone, he was a full head taller than Rune. Rune's height of 1.85 meters was still a bit short in front of the burly orc.
“I’m not slandering him,” Rune calmly denied. “I’m just stating the facts. Thrall may be of noble birth, but he has never tasted wealth, that power that can gently corrupt everything, that wonderful taste—”
Nazgrell's expression made Rune laugh; this orc, too, had never experienced the prosperity of modern society.
Azeroth's civilization is still relatively underdeveloped. Although humans possess a powerful navy with the help of magic, it is clear that the level of luxury here is far inferior to that of modern society.
If Rune's universe weren't called DC, he might have thought that living as a wealthy man wouldn't be so bad.
Nazgrell simply replied calmly, "Indulging in pleasure only makes a warrior weak."
“There’s some truth to that,” Rune nodded, agreeing with Nazgrell’s statement. “But there’s no place for the weak in Azeroth, while in many universes there are heroes willing to take care of them. The weak are not entirely useless.”
The orc was silent for a moment. "They—those five parademons—are they...?"
"To be precise, they are their prototypes, or perhaps they are versions of themselves from different universes?" Rune sighed softly. "But it doesn't matter anymore. Your mission is actually complete. You can lead the others to retreat, and leave the rest to me."
"No need, we orcs are not afraid of sacrifice—"
When Rune turned around, his eyes were already burning with a fierce light, as if they were on fire. What was contained in them moved Nazgrell.
"I don't need your sacrifice. I've already seen the orcs' war potential. Rest assured, you won't lack opportunities to die heroically in the future." Rune's voice seemed to be composed of multiple tones. "I know the evil deeds you've committed, but that's no reason for you to commit suicide!"
"Those otherworldly creatures will not stop invading, and you will naturally have the opportunity to repay the blood debt you owe in Azeroth," he said, his body hovering in the air. "I know you question my motives, but the reason I came here to help you is very simple."
"Because our universe will also face the invasion of these alien creatures, and I need to find enough friends for our universe. A single world cannot survive this crisis."
Having said that, Rune vanished instantly, flying away like a shooting star. The violent sonic boom knocked over the two Kor'kron Guards, but no one uttered a sound.
Any soldier who has experienced multiple wars will feel a deep sense of guilt, especially an orc. Many people can't even bear to hear the screams of cats and dogs, so how could they remain unmoved by the screams of humanoid creatures?
The orcs knew that they themselves had killed the world they originally inhabited, and that they were the invaders of Azeroth.
Especially after the side effects of the demonic blood took effect, many orcs even became disillusioned with life. It was only because of their obsession with honor that there was no large-scale suicide.
Therefore, what attracted the orcs the most in Rune's words was actually the promise of a chance to repay the blood debt owed in Azeroth.
"Do you think what that mage said is true?" one of the Kor'kron guards asked softly, his eyes fixed on the sky. This orc hadn't had a good night's sleep in a long time; every time he closed his eyes, all he could see were the horrific scenes of the victims.
Nazgrell sighed, sat back down, and leaned against the tree stump. "I don't know, my friend, but since the leaders believe in him, I'm willing to believe in him too."
