Chapter 106 If the sky falls, there are tall people to hold it up... What, I've become a tall person?

Rune listened quietly to Jonathan's complaints, watching the scenery outside the window gradually fade into the distance. If only the DC universe could always be this peaceful. He tried his best not to think about the laughing Batman, not to worry about Peppertua, and even less to consider the words of those Riddlers.

Sigh, I used to think that if the sky fell, there would be tall people to hold it up, but now I've become one of those tall people.

Just as Rune was drifting off to sleep, a familiar magical force erupted in the metropolis, completely waking him up.

"Stop the car, I have something to take care of," Rune said, smiling as he looked towards the distant source of the magical burst.

Well, ever since his Gotham collection was ruined by those owls, Rune has never forgotten about high-level demons. Even a half-demon that has only absorbed Sangu's blood still has considerable value. And a demon that hasn't completely absorbed it, from which a single drop of Sangu's blood can still be extracted, is the ultimate treasure.

Jonathan didn't ask Rune what he was going to do; he trusted Rune completely.

Rune was, after all, a wizard, and naturally had his own circle of friends. It was perfectly normal for him to want to meet up with some friends from the magical world in the metropolis. You have to understand, in the past few years, there have been at least eighty to a hundred wizards who came specifically to buy his puppets, and those were the ones who came directly to him. It only took the Jonathans three days to go from being startled by the sudden appearance of this strange man to becoming used to it.

"Be careful!" Jonathan said, giving Rune a special reminder as he got out of the car. Rune nodded and waved to them. As they left, Rune could still hear Clark complaining about Jonathan, saying things like he was biased.

Rune patted his clothes, and the white suit began to tremble slightly, the fabric shimmering faintly. The shoulders of the suit slowly relaxed, the lines that had clung to his body gradually loosening. The collar also changed, elongating from a neat V-shape to an elegant curve. The fabric at the cuffs extended backward, gradually becoming a pair of wide sleeves.

Soon, the suit had transformed into a red cloak, and a corner of the cloak gently brushed against his face.

"Alright, I know you're excited to turn into your original form, but we still have important business to attend to." Rune responded by rubbing against the floating cloak, then rose up and rushed towards the place where the dark magic was erupting at an extremely fast speed.

Strangely, even though Rune's cloak changed on the street and he even flew up at the end, not a single ordinary person around him paid any attention to him.

Although the sky had completely darkened, the hustle and bustle of the metropolis had not entirely faded away. Hidden within the steel jungle were shadowy alleyways, like forgotten corners, forming a stark contrast to the city's gleaming facade.

Rune landed gently and looked at the narrow alleyway leading to the entrance. The dim streetlights hung obliquely at the entrance of the alley, emitting a weak and swaying light that barely dispelled some of the darkness, but could not outline the shape of the alley.

Since the collapse of the Soviet Union, the United States has considered itself to have won. As a result, its top officials began cutting funding for pensions, infrastructure, and other areas, while simultaneously lowering high tax rates on the wealthy. The beneficiaries of this action were, of course, companies like Lextar. So who suffered?

Naturally, it's the unsung proletariat, like those in this alley. They're still managing to survive now because the Soviet Union hasn't been dissolved for many years. But the country's decline won't even take fifty years, because the inherent evil in the bones of those big capitalists will allow them to leech off the giants without regard for the cost.

Rune walked into the alley, where the walls were covered with all sorts of little GGs. The colorful papers were curled up by the wind, and occasionally you could see some graffiti, twisted lines and blurry patterns. The screams and sobs coming from them echoed in the narrow space, making it seem particularly eerie.

He could feel the power of that dark magic more and more. From a distance, it wasn't noticeable, but once he got closer, even Rune had to admit that the magic was incredibly pure.

This pure dark magic, like invisible tentacles, silently wrapped around Rune's body. At first, he only felt a slight chill, as if a pair of cold eyes were watching him from the shadows. However, as time went by, this feeling grew stronger and stronger.

Suddenly, a low murmur arose, seemingly coming from all directions, while shadows flickered in the darkness. These shadows were sometimes blurry, sometimes clear, as if they might pounce on him at any moment.

Rune snorted coldly, stretched out his hand, and a ball of light flew out, instantly transforming into a blinding ray of light. The next moment, a heart-wrenching scream reached Rune's ears, and the hairs on his right side stood on end.

"Gotcha, you bastard!"

Snapped!

Rune grabbed the monster's arm.

Bathed in light, the monster appeared enormous and distorted. Its lower body was that of a goat, with thick, powerful, bent legs that, instead of hooves, had bird claws with sharp, razor-sharp nails. Its short, thick tail swayed intermittently, making unsettling slapping sounds.

Its upper body was a human torso, but its skin was as pale as a corpse, covered with eerie black runes. Its eyes had been gouged out, yet a crimson light still shone from them. Its face was twisted and hideous, its features contorted, and its mouth contained extremely fine teeth. Its arms were very long and thin, with nails that were jet black and gleamed with a cold light. The monster's back also had a pair of enormous raven wings, their feathers jet black and glossy, as deep as the night sky.

This was not Rune's target. The monster's body, illuminated by the light, continuously emitted black smoke as it struggled to escape from Rune's grasp, but it was destined to be a futile struggle.

"I'm open!"

The monster's sarcastic remarks only confirmed Rune's belief in its master.

"A demon? Sent by the Fallen Ones?" Rune asked, though his tone was certain. These monsters, which looked like they could make your sanity drop, were mostly products of Hell.

Before the monster could say anything, Rune delivered a powerful kick. This seemingly light kick produced a deafening explosion, clearly breaking the sound barrier. The next moment, the monster split open cleanly from its left shoulder to its groin, its internal organs spilling out onto the ground. Simultaneously, the monster's possessor revealed its true form—an ordinary person covered in black runes, suffering immense torment.
