Chapter 62 Suicide Incident
Cases on Gotham's campus are always much easier to handle than those in Gotham City.
At least in Lucius's understanding, that was correct.
After all, a university campus can't really be associated with some kind of terrifying entity like the Riddler or the Clown.
Lucius was confident he could handle any case as long as it didn't involve those horrible guys, and it could even serve as material for a promotion.
"There have indeed been some missing persons cases at Gotham University, and there seem to be some minor cases of equipment theft... but it doesn't seem like anything to worry about."
These were all cases without even basic clues, and Lucius couldn't solve them. It seemed that he could only wait for new events to occur on campus before he would have a chance to solve the cases.
Putting their phones away, Lucius and Pamela went to the Great Hall together.
Inside this enormous building, people from different communities gathered in small groups, exchanging ideas in a lively atmosphere.
The scene was quite noisy, with people raising their glasses in celebration everywhere, and couples dancing together under the moonlight. The auditorium was filled with the joyful figures of students.
"I had no idea there were parties like this before..."
Not particularly fond of socializing, Pamela stood beside Lucius, cautiously observing her surroundings as she faced a group of enthusiastic classmates.
"That's what parties are all about..."
Faced with the chaotic auditorium, Lucius could only manage a wry smile, vaguely understanding why American parents were reluctant to let their children host parties at home.
With food and drinks everywhere at the party, it's hard to imagine how they'll clean up the mess.
Alcohol abuse was a minor issue; Lucius even smelled some prohibited plants in the venue... This shows that even at Gotham University, students behaved exceptionally unrestrainedly at parties.
"Let's go, let's try going to the Black Pigeon Society."
Inside the huge auditorium, each small group of people had a club plaque above their heads, seemingly to help new students quickly find their groups.
As he pulled Pamela through the crowd, Lucius simply smiled apologetically at the countless flirtatious glances thrown his way by the girls, and quickened his pace.
Soon, upon reaching the back of the auditorium, Lucius finally spotted the wooden plaque.
Black Dove Club
The sign, with its gold lettering on a black background and decorated with cursive script, was a stark contrast to the other students. Under the sign, a group of men and women, whose demeanor was distinctly different from that of ordinary students, were raising their glasses in celebration. Their refined and elegant air was completely different from that of the other students.
Next to this group of unusual students, there was even a woman holding a microphone, muttering something in front of the camera, seemingly conducting some kind of interview.
And near this most mysterious club at Gotham University, only one other club exists—the Coal Harbor Detective Club.
Under the wooden sign, a few college students sat scattered about, staring intently in the direction of the Black Pigeon Society, their faces grim.
As Lucius hesitated about how to approach her, he noticed the reporter holding the microphone suddenly change her expression and walk towards him.
"Hey! Is this Officer Lucius? I'm Lydia Page, editor of the Gotham University Gazette. It's an honor to meet you."
Lydia was wearing a women's suit similar to Barbara's, and her bright eyes showed a hint of 'fortunate' the moment she saw Lucius.
She reached out and shook hands firmly with Lucius, a gesture that drew the attention of nearby students.
"Hey, what did she just say?"
"Officer Lucius? The one who handled the bombing all by himself last time?"
"Cool! What a handsome police officer! If he were to search my body, I definitely wouldn't resist..."
"Hey, you unwanted little bitch, what are you talking about..."
The students' laughter and chatter drifted over. After realizing Lucius's identity, the students in the detective club all changed their expressions, casting admiring and respectful glances at him.
In the previous Gotham Daily, Lucius was promoted as the face of Gotham City by the Gotham police and was once hailed as the savior of Gotham, almost on par with Batman.
In the United States, ordinary police officers are disliked by the vast majority of residents because they are armed and have a certain degree of freedom to fire. They are seen as troublemakers and extremely dangerous scoundrels.
But in Gotham, in this chaotic city, Lucius, who single-handedly drove away an exploding vehicle and ensured the safety of the city, naturally became a standard American hero, saving the lives of many people with his own strength.
Such unconventional and adventurous police officers are clearly different from those corrupt cops tainted by gangs. Naturally, they would be more popular with young people.
Otherwise, Barbara, as a student, wouldn't have come to invite Lucius to participate in Gotham University's celebration.
Overwhelmed by the students' enthusiasm, a flustered Lucius nodded to the reporter: "It's an honor to be invited to Gotham University... Do you know Barbara?"
"Of course, it was me who asked Barbara to invite you to the celebration."
With intense gazes fixed on the person before her, Lydia and her classmates' fervent attitude made Pamela purse her lips and, feeling rather threatened, tighten her grip on Lucius's arm.
"Is it you?"
Lucius was surprised to find that the person who brought him to Gotham University was a reporter with close ties to the Black Pigeon Society. He glanced around and noticed that the Black Pigeon Society student members all had strange expressions on their faces.
Of all the students present, it seemed that only these people harbored such strong aversion to their presence...
"We wonder if it would be convenient for you to be interviewed by us. My classmates and I are very interested in your story."
Lydia approached Lucius with the microphone, and her words immediately caused a stir among the students present.
A handsome police officer who looked to be the same age as them, coupled with his legendary work ability that Gotham Police had always touted, made him one of the focal points of the party, attracting more and more students' attention.
Under the watchful eyes of countless students, Lydia smiled sweetly and spoke with narrowed eyes:
"The Gotham Daily says you're the best marksman in the entire police department. Would you be willing to demonstrate?"
Demonstrating marksmanship?
In a place like this?
"No, no, no, as a police officer, I can't just fire a gun."
When made this request at the party, Lucius broke out in a cold sweat and repeatedly refused.
"No problem, there's a shooting event at the sports meet starting tomorrow. Would you be interested in participating, officer?"
Amidst the clamor of countless students, Lydia seemed unwilling to let Lucius go, and continued her pursuit with a smile.
"Of course...if it doesn't violate any rules..."
Unable to refuse such enthusiastic invitations, and under the expectant gazes of countless people, Lucius could only nod in agreement, feeling immense pressure.
However, it was at the climax of this party that...
A piercing scream shattered everyone's cheerful mood, drawing the attention of almost everyone in the auditorium to the girl who was stumbling and running towards the door.
Her hands were covered in scarlet blood, which looked particularly horrifying under the lights of the auditorium.
"Someone has committed suicide! Right outside the auditorium! Call an ambulance immediately!!!"
