American comic book police officer survival manual

Chapter 46 The Penguin's 'Gift'

Ugh... damn it, at least those guys at the police station have some conscience and didn't expose everything they've done.

After reading through the newspaper, Lucius was only relieved that the police had only provided information about his performance in the bombing and had not disclosed any details about other previous cases.

Otherwise, with his growing fame, he might become the target of the failed scarecrow's wrath.

"Is there anything else you'd like to ask?"

Putting down the newspaper, Lucius began responding to Barbara's interview...

outside the ward.

Brock watched helplessly as more and more gang members gathered, silently observing the changing situation from the sidelines.

"Hey, did you find out? What exactly does Officer Lucius like? Money? Power?"

"Couldn't find him... He just arrived in Gotham; he used to live in Manhattan."

"What about our informant in Manhattan? Why hasn't the information been sent back yet?"

"If you ask me, no matter what you like, giving money is always the right thing to do."

"Tch, what if the other party is a rich young master?"

The gang members chattered amongst themselves, their gossip never ceasing, yet they couldn't come up with a suitable gift.

"Alright, that's enough."

After hanging up the phone, Chris, the leader, stood up. His massive muscles intimidated his underlings, instantly silencing their argument.

"The boss said he's already prepared a gift..."

Looking around, Chris spotted a car approaching from the street. He waved to his two trusted men and they got into the back seat of the car.

Upon opening the car door and seeing the 'gift' inside, all three were stunned...

......

"So, Officer Lucius, what are your hobbies?"

Barbara, during the interview, meticulously recorded all sorts of details about Lucius, from his birthday to his preferences; there was almost nothing she didn't want to know.

"Uh... I think I don't have any particular preferences."

Sitting on the bed, Lucius's eyes darted around unnaturally.

Of course, he couldn't possibly reveal his predecessor's damned hobby in front of the two ladies.

"If I absolutely have to say..."

"Knock knock knock".

The door to the ward was knocked on again, interrupting the interview and causing the three people inside to look towards the door.

The next second, the door was pushed open, and a huge figure squeezed into the ward.

"Officer Lucius, I've come to deliver a gift..."

The dull sound stopped abruptly, and Chris froze upon seeing the two beautiful women in the ward.

At that moment, even with his dull mind, he realized that he seemed to have arrived at the wrong time.

"Lucius, who is he?"

Pamela became very nervous upon sensing the intense, fierce aura emanating from Chris.

"He is..."

"Are you Chris? The security captain at Iceberg Restaurant?"

With a raised eyebrow, Barbara recognized the man.

She clearly remembered that this man had committed a crime and had been on the wanted list for a period of time. Later, for some reason, he was granted an exemption, apparently because he won a lawsuit with the help of certain people.

In short, from then on, Chris became the Penguin's henchman... although on the surface he no longer participated in crimes, but only worked at the Iceberg Restaurant.

Now he's here...

After hesitating for a moment under the watchful eyes of the three, Chris, judging that the boss's orders were paramount, still stated his purpose as usual.

"Mr. Coppert sent me here, saying he wanted to give you a gift because he owed you a favor last time."

As he spoke, the burly man pulled out a woman with her hands bound from behind.

The woman with a hot figure wore a black dress, her shapely and long legs were stunning like ivory, her fair skin and noble temperament made this bound woman look like a kidnapped noblewoman, revealing a unique kind of tragic beauty.

She had long black hair, and even though her delicate face was covered by a black veil, her cool eyes and smooth skin still proved that she was in a privileged position. In particular, the arrogance and stubbornness in her black eyes seemed to symbolize her extraordinary status.

Despite the intense resentment and anger in her eyes, she still followed Chris to the front of the group, staring intently at Lucius, as if blaming this man for all her current embarrassment.

"She's a thief, and because she doesn't want to face legal consequences, she agreed to do anything we could for her."

thief?

Upon hearing the reason why the other party had been arrested, Pamela and Barbara's expressions changed. They found it hard to believe that such a beauty would be caught because of something like this.

As for Chris, he completely disregarded the woman's feelings and simply stated his purpose in a crude and direct manner:

"The reason I chose her as a gift is because Mr. Copperpot heard about you..."

"stop!!!"

His expression changed drastically, and he instantly interrupted Chris's speech, Lucius gesturing to indicate that he understood.

I appreciate your kind gesture, but please take the gift back with you.

Behind him was Pamela's strange gaze, and Lucius was truly sweating profusely.

He never expected to be given away in front of so many people!

Gotham is still Gotham, that's true, but isn't this a bit too outrageous?!

The girl's resentment and arrogance alone made Lucius somewhat worried. It was a huge trap; the Penguins were trying to make him offend some powerful entity.

"I'm sorry, my only responsibility is to bring her here. How you arrange things is up to you."

Rigidly following the Penguin's orders, Chris simply tossed out the key to the handcuffs and handed Lucius a strange USB drive.

"The boss said that all her information is here, and she wouldn't dare disobey your orders."

Having completed his task, Chris silently left the room, leaving the four people inside staring at each other.

"Hey..."

Looking at the 'thief' with his hands bound, the kind-hearted Barbara whispered with heartache, "Would you mind telling me your name? Perhaps I can help you prosecute those troublemakers."

Knowing the law well, Barbara couldn't imagine what kind of theft charge could lead gangsters to treat a beautiful and elegant woman this way.

But as soon as she spoke, the woman who was being controlled changed her expression and did not respond. She simply lowered her head and silently came behind Lucius, indicating her submission.

"this..."

Clutching the keys and USB drive that Chris had tossed to him, Lucius felt as if the objects in his hands were burning hot. And the way Pamela and Barbara were looking at him...something was definitely off!

"Well... in short, on behalf of Gotham University, I look forward to your timely visit."

Believing that Lucius, as a police officer, should be able to handle the matter properly, and having completed the interview, Barbara quickly left the ward, leaving behind only an invitation to the ball.

As for Lucius...

Looking at Pamela's calm expression, he was considering how to explain the cause and effect of this matter...
