"I'm starting to worry about her safety."

"Don't worry, she'll be fine. Maybe her walkie-talkie fell or broke." Claire is one of the female leads, so nothing will happen to her. Shen Ye has complete confidence in her skills.

Although Leon thought Shen Ye's words made a lot of sense, he still said, "We still have to find her. It's too dangerous here."

……

Thanks to Umbrella's funding, Raccoon City's sewer system is very well-developed, large, wide, and complex, and can even be used as a temporary civil defense fortification.

But for Shen Ye and his group, the complex sewers were a complete obstacle; the place was practically a maze.

After walking through the sewers for almost an hour, they finally heard the footsteps of other people.

Looking in the direction from which the footsteps came, the three saw a blonde woman wearing a white coat.

The blonde woman also saw them, but like Sherry, she didn't say a word and turned to run away.

"Follow her."

They had finally encountered a living person, and one who looked like a researcher. They weren't about to let her get away so easily. The three of them quickened their pace and gave chase.

Surprisingly, the blonde woman didn't seem to be a researcher at all. She had an exceptionally good physique and seemed to know the sewer routes very well. She quickly disappeared around the corner ahead.

Ada was running at the front of the group. Seeing that she was about to lose them, she became a little anxious. She loosened her grip on the gun and swung her arms to speed up.

As she rounded the corner, she was confronted with a loaded pistol, but it was too late for her to raise it.

Just as the blonde woman's finger was about to press the trigger, Shen Ye suddenly appeared beside Ada. The intense fighting during this period had restored his reaction to its original level. The moment he saw the pistol, he grabbed Ada's arm and pulled her aside.

But this put him in the line of fire.

"Shen," Ida called out, trying to push him away, when she heard a gunshot.

"Damn it!" Shen Ye cursed, clutching his wound and jumping to the side. He had suffered many injuries in recent days, but this was the first time he had been shot.

Fortunately, the blonde woman only fired one shot and ran away, without firing a follow-up shot.

Chapter 41! Annie Birkin

……

This relieved Shen Ye. He looked at the spot where he had been shot, on his shoulder. He tried to move his arm and found that apart from a little pain, his movements were not affected.

Shen Ye couldn't help but feel lucky; the bullet had pierced his muscle without damaging his bones.

Ada, however, was not so relaxed. She quickly tore open the clothes around his wound and checked it, but didn't even glance at the blonde woman who was about to disappear.

"Fortunately, no bones were broken, otherwise you would have been unable to use this arm for the time being."

Shen Ye wasn't the only one who had studied battlefield first aid; Ada, a former special agent, had also learned it. After examining Shen Ye's wounds, Ada felt much more at ease.

He took out bandages and cotton wool from the small bag at his waist, cleaned up the blood, stuffed the cotton wool into the wound, and then bandaged it.

Just as Ada was bandaging Shen Ye's wounds, Leon returned. He first asked Ada about Shen Ye's injuries and, after receiving a reply that they weren't serious, he breathed a sigh of relief before continuing, "I'm sorry, I lost him, but I saw a passage ahead. At the end of the passage, there's a door with the Umbrella Corporation logo on it."

"It seems the garbage disposal plant is on the other side of the door," Shen Ye said, frowning. He remembered that in the original story, Ada had already entered the garbage disposal plant when she met Sherry's mother, so there had clearly been some minor changes in the plot.

"Why don't you rest here for a while, and I'll go over with Ms. Ada?" Leon asked.

"It would be better if we went together. My injury is fine."

Shen Ye shook his head, raised his arm from his injured shoulder, swung his hand forcefully, and then winced in pain.

Ada glared at him, but still agreed with him, saying, "Who will take care of him if we stay? It's better if we go together."

Since even the only lady had said so, Leon could only nod in agreement.

……

"This is it. Hmm, the door isn't locked, you can open it directly."

At the end of the passage, the three stood in front of the door, talking quietly.

"Then who will open the door?"

Shen Ye had injured his shoulder, though not to the point of needing help. However, he had already given his M16 to Leon, and now he only had a Samurai Blade pistol for self-defense. So even if he wanted to open the door, Ada wouldn't agree.

"Let me do it."

Ida volunteered to approach the iron gate; she had suffered a minor setback earlier and was looking for revenge!

However, Leon squeezed in front of her and turned to her, saying, "I'm a policeman. Kicking down doors and storming in is my specialty. You should take care of Shen!"

"No need." Shen Ye waved the gun in his hand. "It's safer for you all to go in together. I only suffered minor injuries, not missing an arm or a leg, so it's not like I need you to take such good care of me."

Hearing him say that, Ada and Leon had no way to refute it, so they stood one in front of the door.

Leon placed his hand on the doorknob, turned it gently, and after hearing a click, he pushed the door open forcefully and rushed in first, gun raised.

Ada followed closely behind, but before entering, she turned back and waved to Shen Ye, signaling him to stay close.

Suddenly, a gunshot rang out from inside, and the gun in Leon's hand fell to the ground.

On the other side of the door was a mechanical bridge, and the blonde woman was standing on the other side of the bridge.

"Don't move." The blonde woman's face was cold as she glared at Leon with resentment.

“Don’t move.” Ada appeared from behind Leon, pointing her gun at her.

The blonde woman gave her a cold look, ignored her, and began to press the trigger again.

At that moment, Shen Ye, the last one to appear, raised his hand and fired a shot, which hit her pistol.

Taking advantage of the moment, Ada rushed over, kicked the gun off the ground, grabbed the blonde woman's arm with one hand, and with a casual twist, pinned the blonde woman, who was rushing to pick up the gun, to the ground.

"Let me go, you bunch of robbers."

The blonde woman struggled desperately, but Ada was more skilled than a professional soldier, and her struggles were completely futile.

“Listen, we don’t mean to hurt you,” Ada said calmly, trying to reassure her. “We’re just looking for someone.”

“You are indeed in cahoots with them.” Unable to break free, the blonde woman glared at her. “You won’t get anything out of me.”

Ada frowned, and just as she was about to ask who they were, Shen Ye and Leon arrived.

"Who are you?" Leon crouched down and asked, staring at the blonde woman.

As he asked her name, Leon subconsciously glanced at her chest. Generally, people who do scientific research wear name tags to identify themselves, but the blonde woman had nothing on her chest, probably because she lost it during her escape.

The blonde woman snorted coldly and remained silent.

Leon sighed and said, "I'm Leon Scott Kennedy, a police officer from Raccoon City. I'm not a bad guy."

Then he pointed to Shen Ye and Ada: "Shen Ye, Ada Wong, survivors of this disaster, neither of us are bad people."

"Is that so?" The blonde woman sneered. "I don't know you or that Shen Ye, but I do remember her, Ada Wong. I heard John, the newly transferred researcher, mention you, but you don't seem to be just an ordinary woman as he described."

“Anyone with eyes can see that,” Ada said calmly. “So who exactly are you? And why do you know all this?”

“Annie Birkin, I am the wife of William Birkin, the creator of the G-virus,” the blonde woman said.

"So you think we're here to steal the G virus?" Shen Ye asked her.

“Otherwise?” Annie glanced at Ida. “I don’t believe you’re good people, especially her.”

Leon glanced at Ada with some curiosity, but with Shen Ye present, he suppressed his questions.

Faced with Leon's curious gaze, Ada felt a little guilty and subconsciously looked at Shen Ye. When she saw that he smiled at her, she immediately felt at ease.

"It seems he doesn't suspect me," she thought to herself with a smug smile.

“We didn’t come here because of the G virus.” Shen Ye continued to explain, “We just stumbled upon this place and came here to investigate the truth of the matter.”

"Besides, if it were really about the G virus, would we not recognize you?"

At this point, Shen Ye glanced at Ada out of the corner of his eye and thought to himself, "You're still a bit green as an agent. You didn't even know what the target's name was or what he looked like."

This sentence made Annie pause for a moment. She couldn't help but recall the scene when the USS soldiers snatched the G virus. At that time, the other party did have a very clear purpose.

“You’re right.” Annie gradually calmed down. “Perhaps you really are good people.”

Chapter 42! The Instinct to Reproduce

“It’s not ‘maybe,’ we really are good people.” Shen Ye waved to Ada, signaling her to release her control over Annie.

Ada was very reluctant. She pointed to Shen Ye's wound and whispered, "She hurt you."

Although she was pinned to the ground, Annie still saw what the two were doing. Initially filled with resentment, she couldn't help but show a hint of embarrassment on her face.

“I’m sorry, I thought you were from the USS.” Annie apologized softly, then paused and said, “I know there are medical supplies there. The underground research institute has a newly developed special medicine that can quickly heal your wounds. If you want to go, you can find it in the infirmary.”

Her words reminded Shen Ye of the hand sanitizer that appeared later in the story. That thing could be described as a revolutionary product, capable of reattaching even severed hands, let alone healing a small penetrating wound. He just didn't know if it had been developed yet.

"Let her go, Ada." Shen Ye gestured again for Ada to release her control over Annie.

This time, Ada didn't object. She released her grip on Annie's hand, stood up, and stood to the side, but her right hand was still on the gun, clearly indicating that she still didn't quite trust Annie.

Annie got up from the ground, brushed off non-existent dirt from her body, and looked around, trying to find her pistol.

"Don't even think about it." Leon guessed her intention, raised his left hand, and showed her the pistol he had picked up.
