Chapter 114 Dumbledore’s temptation
“You’ve started, Tom. Let me see if you’re really the same person.” Dumbledore put down the envelope in his hand and slowly sat back in his chair.
The phoenix preened its beautiful feathers on the table.
People say that Albus Dumbledore is the greatest wizard in the world. But sometimes he thought he might be the most sinful of them all.
Two terrifying villains who have emerged in the last century are closely related to him.
Of course, sometimes we have to admit that Gellert Grindelwald and Voldemort would have ultimately gone down the same path regardless of Dumbledore's presence. And without Dumbledore to stop them, the world would only be more miserable.
Gellert will reshape the order of the wizarding and Muggle worlds, inevitably igniting war between them. Grindelwald, a man who highly values ability, might discover the extraordinary talent of young Tom Riddle and choose him as his successor. Alternatively, the two sides may choose opposing paths.
Either way, it will be a blood-soaked future.
He felt a little tired, his mind still replaying the events of the previous two school years. He had several questions that needed to be answered.
The first question is whether the resurrected "Tom Riddle" is Voldemort? If so, is there a conflict between their existences? If not, then who is he?
So after Cyrus escaped from prison, or more precisely after Cyrus was resurrected, Dumbledore began to consciously spread the news to Albania, and to Voldemort, who was even less than a ghost.
His second concern stemmed from the premise that Cyrus and Tom Riddle were not the same person. Dumbledore still needed to ascertain whether the other party posed a threat; he had no desire to see a third terrifying dark wizard rise to power.
The third concern, or rather expectation, is more accurately described.
He was curious whether Voldemort would try to find the previous Horcruxes after he learned that one of his Horcruxes had "resurrected." If so, he might leave a loophole.
“Tom, who calls himself Cyrus, went to Riddle Hall and Gaunt House after his resurrection. He couldn’t possibly have hidden his Horcruxes in a Muggle-run place like Riddle Hall; that would be a disgrace to him. So it seems he only took the Horcruxes hidden in Gaunt House,” Dumbledore pondered. “But the Ministry of Magic—would he hide Horcruxes in the Ministry of Magic?”
Dumbledore thought it was unlikely.
Although the Ministry of Magic symbolized power, something Voldemort seemed to be born with, he actually held it in utter contempt. He believed his own power far surpassed that of the Ministry, and besides, the Ministry was a place frequented by many people, making it far from safe.
"Cyrus...who exactly are you?"
-
"Delis, who exactly was the person you said contacted with that fairy?"
It was another day, and Tonks was already tired of staying at the Pighead Bar.
In fact, Cyrus and she have been living together for more than half a month now. Even the Aurors and Dementors have lowered their guard a little, and the fairy sits in the bar every day, happily waiting for someone who may not even exist.
During this time, Tonks changed the names of everyone she vaguely remembered to avoid giving herself away. Meanwhile, Cyrus used the excuse that "I'm not good at Transfiguration" to avoid the boring surveillance activities and went off to play, which infuriated Tonks.
“Whoever he is, or even if he exists, since it’s a job, let’s do it well.” Cyrus said as he slipped out.
"How dare you say that? Who's been sneaking off to see Rosmerta with three brooms every day? I'll write to your wife if you don't listen!" Tonks said angrily, suppressing the urge to punch Cyrus.
“I’m not here to see the landlady; I just don’t want to eat in a swarm of flies. Besides, my wife and I have a great relationship; I just bought her a tabby cat a few days ago,” Cyrus said without turning his head.
He certainly didn't buy any cats or raccoons.
In fact, the animal he sent away was Dexterus himself. After Cyrus turned Dexterus into a python, Dexterus escaped. Later, he took some time to find Dexterus and turned him into a cat, which he then gave to his wife.
Cyrus became the Dexter only to find the keys to the Twelve Treasures, not to break up other people's families.
He stretched, and after leaving the Hog's Head pub, instead of heading towards the main road of Hogsmeade, he turned into a more secluded area. The Screaming Shack, a haunted house infamous throughout the British wizarding world.
A few months ago, Cyrus fought Dumbledore here and was defeated, with the house destroyed. But now it seems Dumbledore has repaired the house, and it looks exactly the same.
No, it's not that nothing has changed.
In fact, there were more signs of life in the house, indicating that a werewolf had returned, but this time he did not add any new scars to the already dilapidated house.
For some reason, Cyrus felt a strong urge to return to Hogwarts, but he was worried about the Marauder's Map. He wasn't sure if Dumbledore had it, and he was even more unsure if Dumbledore would kill him if they met again.
Even if this body didn't house Voldemort's soul, death was still a terrifying thing for a young life like Cyrus. Especially after all the effort he'd put into resurrecting him, how could he willingly die like this?
In the end, he turned back.
He entered the Pig's Head Bar, but surprisingly, he didn't see Tonks anywhere, nor was the fairy who sat there day after day. Cyrus immediately realized that the person Tonks was waiting for had probably already appeared, and that Tonks had perhaps taken it upon herself to follow him.
Aberforth's actions confirmed Cyrus's suspicions.
When he saw Cyrus return, he angrily tossed him a folded piece of paper.
"That girl left it to you; I think she's probably in danger."
Cyrus immediately opened the letter:
"Delix, the person the goblin was waiting for has appeared. It's a wizard! I have to follow him. I've left you a trace. See you there."
"When did this happen?" Cyrus asked seriously as he put the note away.
“It’s been about five hours since lunch,” Aberforth replied casually. “You’d better hurry, that girl can’t possibly be a match for them.”
Even without his reminder, Cyrus wouldn't allow Tonks to get hurt. He rushed out of the bar, nearly knocking the dilapidated door down with his footsteps.
Cyrus waved his wand in front of him:
"Human traces revealed!"
A golden mist unfurled, and within the shimmering mist, a row of footprints stretched into the distance.
Chapter 115 Avada Kedavra
A few hours ago.
As Tonks sat at the Pig's Head bar, enjoying his clean and hygienic Aberforth-style grilled ribs, he inwardly cursed Cyrus:
"Damn Delizi, he made me keep watch again!"
She had never hated her ability to disguise herself as Magus as she did now.
"I also want to go out and explore. I haven't been to Hogsmeade since graduation."
She angrily cut the ribs with her knife and fork, then stuffed them into her mouth and chewed them forcefully, as if she were cutting Cyrus's body and eating Cyrus's flesh and blood.
She planned to sneak out for a stroll in the afternoon after finishing her meal, since that fairy stayed in the bar all day and never went anywhere, and Cyrus often didn't come back until night.
But just as she was thinking this, another wizard, who was wrapped up tightly, pushed open the door and walked into the bar.
Such attire was not conspicuous in the Pighead Bar. The reason Tonks noticed her was because as soon as he entered, he immediately scanned the bar and then walked towards the fairy with a very purpose.
Now, Tonks was on high alert.
The newly arrived wizard was tall and thin. He sat down opposite the fairy, casually ordered a glass of flaming whiskey, and said nonchalantly, "Have you been waiting long?"
"Have you been waiting long?" the fairy repeated the greeting indignantly.
Just hearing his voice, Tonks could feel a raging fire burning in the goblin's throat: "I've been waiting here for over a month! And you're telling me 'sorry for keeping you waiting'? If you're not going to cooperate, then get lost! But we'll show you the consequences of playing games with us!"
"Don't be angry, sir." The new wizard chuckled softly, his voice low but still carrying an air of arrogance. "Cooperating with people of your status is very risky. We need to consider this carefully."
He paused for a moment, took a sip of wine slowly, and then continued, "There are different voices within the organization. Most people think there is no need to cooperate with you. After all, the treasure of the Great Fairy Lanlock has long been lost, and you people are too greedy."
Speaking of greed, he felt even more disgusted with the short business partner in front of him.
"We're greedy? It's you wizards who have seized so many of our fairy artifacts—"
“We provided the materials ourselves and even paid for the construction.”
"Ownership of an item always belongs to its creator!" the goblin said through gritted teeth, so much so that even Tonks could imagine how ferocious his wrapped face must look.
That's why I say you're greedy.
The ownership of the fairy artifacts that they created with their own money does not belong to them. The fairies shamelessly demand a large number of wands but do not contribute a single penny. At this point, they stop mentioning the issue of ownership.
'Hmph, if I controlled the Ministry of Magic, I'd wipe you all out first. Gringotts had better be in the hands of wizards themselves!'
However, the wizard did not continue arguing with the goblins. In the end, they just wanted to use the goblins as a weapon to chop at the bloated organization of the Ministry of Magic, rather than really intending to establish a friendly cooperative relationship with them.
Then, the wizard picked up his wand and waved it, and the two of them spoke even softer, as if an invisible glass dome had covered their small space, and the sound coming from inside was a "buzzing" sound.
Tonks was as anxious as an ant on a hot pan, his ears even unconsciously turning into rabbit ears, but he still couldn't hear what they were talking about.
After a while, she noticed that the two men had both stood up, and the atmosphere between them seemed less tense than before. The tall wizard paid Aberforth's bill and then left the Hog's Head Tavern with the short goblin.
Is this a departure?
Tonks couldn't sit still any longer. She quickly gulped down a mouthful of butterbeer to swallow the chopped ribs that were stuffed into her throat, wiped the grease off her mouth with her sleeve, and jumped up. She rushed to the front of the bar in a few steps, then stopped with a conflicted look on her face and turned back.
"That wretched Delilah, he's still not here at a time like this, all he does is cause trouble!" She jumped up and down in a panic, hurriedly scribbled a line of text, and threw it in front of Aberforth behind the counter. "Bartender, bartender! Show this to my companion when he comes back!"
After saying that, she pushed open the door and went out. The dilapidated door of Pighead Bar, which was already overburdened, shook violently back and forth, making a piercing "creak" sound, which made the other customers in the bar shiver.
“These young people nowadays, they can’t even keep quiet after a few drinks…” An old wizard with all his teeth gone shook his head, shook the goosebumps off his body, and continued watching the latest episode of “Singing the Divergent”.
This newspaper is much more interesting!
After Tonks left, Aberforth was silent for a moment, then retreated into the kitchen. A faint silver light appeared and then flickered out like a star in the sky.
-
Cyrus cast a Tracks spell, and without any aids, he easily found Tonks's trail. Among the shimmering golden particles, a clear line of footprints extended into a more secluded path.
He quickly followed the footprints, his figure gradually disappearing into the lush bushes. Not long after he left, several dark figures appeared behind him, rushing into the dense forest after Cyrus.
Each of these dark figures held a wand and was fully armed, suggesting they were not just ordinary dark wizards, but rather an organized armed force.
It seems they had their eyes on Cyrus and Tonks, the two Aurors from the Ministry of Magic, a long time ago.
Cyrus followed the footprints to the end of the road, where the path ahead was swallowed up by the wilderness and time. Wild grass and withered leaves buried the road, and the footprints came to an abrupt end.
"Did it fly away, or did it apparite?"
