“Be gentle, don’t hurt me. And when did I ever lie to you?” Cyrus replied immediately.
"Hmph! You said the Sorting Ceremony would be dangerous! And what happened? It was just a tattered hat! Did you think it would bite my head off?" Ginny said angrily. What angered her most was that before the Sorting Ceremony, she had confidently boasted to the other students about her "firsthand information," and then...
You've made me lose face!
However, she stopped poking at the book and carefully examined it, only to find that she hadn't left any marks on the diary, at which point she breathed a sigh of relief. In reality, it's almost impossible to destroy a Horcrux using physical means.
“I never said the Sorting Ceremony would be dangerous. I told you not to worry, that there wouldn’t be much danger. And look what happened, just as I said, you’re perfectly fine! Congratulations!” Cyrus said mischievously.
Having endured a long period of solitude, his interactions with Ginny were a great comfort to him—Syles was not Voldemort after all.
"Yes! But what you said gave me the feeling that you might lose an arm or a leg!"
"It seems that one of us has a slightly different understanding of the word 'not too dangerous'."
“Thank you, that means it’s not dangerous at all! Did you expect that hat to suffocate me?” Ginny retorted.
“Not entirely—if you’re inherently evil, it will assign you to Azkaban, and that’s where the danger lies,” Cyrus rambled on.
However, Ginny clearly believed it; her eyes widened.
"Are you serious?"
"Of course it is. Doesn't it talk to you in your head? The Sorting Hat can see into people's hearts. Those who are inherently evil should be placed in Azkaban. That is actually the fifth house of Hogwarts, and the magical creatures it represents are Dementors."
"I've never heard of these."
“There are many secrets about Hogwarts that you don’t know! Even Dumbledore couldn’t possibly know all the secrets here. Exploring the castle is a very interesting thing. I remember that Gryffindor’s tradition is to go on night tours,” Cyrus tempted.
“This is against school rules! And I don’t think Percy and Hermione will be happy.”
"Really? But I think your other two twin brothers might be willing to support you."
Ginny had already told him some details about the Weasley family over the past few days, so Cyrus could speak of these things without any reservations.
"They really do thrive on chaos."
"Let's not talk about that. Did anything interesting happen on the first day of school? Did you make any friends?" Cyrus asked with concern.
“Of course! It was hilarious!” Ginny scribbled heavily on the paper, clearly being sarcastic. “Harry and Ron were late. They rode in their dad’s car all the way down from the sky and were witnessed by several Muggles. They ended up crashing into a Whomping Willow or something—many people thought they were going to get expelled. Thank goodness they didn’t!”
"This was truly a fascinating experience—"
“I just feel terrible. What if Harry gets expelled? Ron must have been the one who encouraged this, and Dad will probably be in trouble too,” Ginny said angrily.
"You care a lot about that Harry Potter?" Cyrus asked sharply.
This made the furious Ginny panic, her face turning red as if her secret thoughts had been exposed.
“No! I just think Harry… he seems quiet, not like a reckless person…”
Ginny covered her burning face and wrote this sentence in her diary with one hand. She was just glad that Mr. Riddle couldn't see her face, otherwise it would have been too embarrassing.
"So, you don't care about him?"
“Of course not!” Ginny quickly denied, then hesitated before writing, “At most—at most, I admire him a little. You know, he defeated the Mystic, and I grew up hearing his stories.”
“He is indeed remarkable, so I think you don’t need to worry about him. Harry Potter defeated the Man of Void, which can be said to have saved the wizarding world. If Dumbledore were to fire him, he would surely receive thousands of howling letters the next day, don’t you think?”
“You’re right.” Ginny’s mood improved considerably, though her cheeks were still flushed.
"I need to sleep, Mr. Riddle. I have class tomorrow."
“Sleep? No, I suggest you go for a night stroll!” Cyrus immediately tempted.
"But……"
"Don't you want to explore inside the castle?"
"But there's no difference if you go during the day."
"Of course it's different! If you always follow the rules, you'll never see Hogwarts under the silvery moonlight at night—not to mention, playing hide-and-seek with the warden is a lot of fun! Aren't you tempted at all?"
"Of course not!"
-
"Which way should I go?" Ginny asked as she walked, quickly writing in her diary.
Even the strong-willed Ginny succumbed to her curiosity.
She was flustered and furtive, looking up and glancing around every few seconds. But what troubled her most was that she had absolutely no idea about the castle's layout; even if she wanted to go somewhere, it was all in complete darkness.
"Why don't you go check the fourth-floor corridor? Didn't your brother say he and Harry Potter fought the Voidman over there last year?"
Let's pay homage to the place where the great Harry Potter once fought?
Ginny's eyes lit up; she thought it was a great idea.
"Which way is the corridor on the fourth floor?"
"If you were in the Gryffindor tower right now, then..."
A map slowly emerged in the diary.
This is a map Cyrus drew based on Voldemort's memories. It contains almost no secret passages, since Voldemort wasn't interested in such trivial matters. And there's no need for Ginny to know about some of the secret rooms.
Ginny glanced at it quickly and immediately closed the diary. She had heard that teachers sometimes patrolled at night, and they might bump into other students who were out at night. She didn't want anyone to know that she was talking to a book.
"The corridor on the fourth floor—it's this way!"
Ginny, who wasn't very experienced with nighttime outings, quickly headed out after confirming her direction. She couldn't wait to see where Harry had fought last year.
However, she was completely unaware of the dark figure that appeared behind her.

Chapter 5: The Fourth-Floor Corridor and Medal Display Room
Ginny tiptoed through the dark castle. It was almost midnight, and there wasn't a single light in the corridors. The wind howled through the darkness, and the tall trees outside the castle swayed their branches in the wind, looking like twisted, bird-like man-eating monsters.
All of this made Ginny a little scared.
She was suspicious and easily frightened; even the slightest noise would terrify her.
Ginny is now regretting putting the diary away. What if a three-headed monster with a heartless nature were to emerge around the next corner? Ron had told her that a friend of theirs had kept a three-headed dog the size of a house in the castle last semester.
Even with the diary in hand, Mr. Riddle couldn't help her.
“Mr. Riddle…”
She could only clutch her diary tightly to her chest, trying to draw a little bit of courage from it, as if that way she wouldn't be alone, but would have someone with her.
Perhaps this diary truly possessed such magic, Ginny gradually felt at ease, and she discovered that this enormous castle, which seemed only terrifying in appearance, was actually—incredibly spacious and remarkably ancient and magnificent. It was far more interesting than her cramped little home.
She now fully realized the joy of strolling through the castle at night—doing whatever she wanted, ignoring school rules, running freely down the corridors, even recklessly unleashing fire with her wand. At most, she might be warned by the portraits on the walls or passing ghosts.
For example, right now, Ginny has encountered the Gryffindor ghost—
“It’s not good for a little girl to wander around the castle alone so late at night. Ah, Gryffindor, obvious! Let me think, Ginny Weasley, right? The Weasley family hair is really easy to spot. But you’re out at night on your very first day of school, you’re even more impressive than your two brothers!” Sir Nicholas said happily.
“Hello, almost headless Nick.” Ginny certainly recognized Nick, because he was performing his “split-head operation” at the Gryffindor dinner table, just like every year, but unfortunately, there was still a little bit of skin connecting his head and neck.
“How rude of you! You won’t even call me a knight!” Sir Nicholas said, feigning anger.
It was indeed a pity that he almost lost his head; according to him, he was also unhappy that the axe had chopped at his neck dozens of times.
“Yes, Sir Nicholas,” Ginny immediately replied.
"Good boy! Have a pleasant night out. Also, don't go to the fifth floor, Peeves is over there. And don't use your wand, or you'll attract Filch." Sir Nicholas, in a great mood, gave a couple of reminders, then passed through the wall with his head hanging around his neck.
So Ginny put away her wand and continued walking in the dark. Before long, she reached the edge of the fourth-floor corridor and found a wooden door.
“This is it! Locked? No problem for me—Alohomora.” She drew her wand, and the lock on the wooden door clicked open, falling to the ground with a clatter.
Ginny couldn't help but feel smug: "Luckily, Mr. Riddle taught me all the spells from the first year."
She happily pushed open the door and went inside; the room was pitch black.
"Fluorescence."
The tip of the wand immediately lit up, illuminating the room.
To Ginny's disappointment, the house was incredibly boring; there was nothing there. There was no terrifying Cerberus, but one that would fall asleep at the sound of singing, nor a trapdoor leading to the underground.
“There’s nothing here.” She laid the diary flat on the ground, holding up her glowing wand in one hand, and wrote crookedly.
“Perhaps Dumbledore restored all of these,” Cyrus replied. “But there are many interesting things in the castle. Do you know how many secret passages and chambers there are? Or if you get hungry at night and want something to eat, just go down to the Great Hall. There’s a painting of fruit there. Scratch the pear in the painting, and it will turn into a doorknob.”
“Never mind, I’m not very hungry. I ate enough at the dinner party,” Ginny refused. She was a little disappointed at not finding anything related to Harry, but she quickly thought of something else.
"By the way, Mr. Riddle. You mentioned before that you received a special contribution award? May I go see it?"
“Of course,” Cyrus said immediately. “I’m glad you remember. The medal display room is on the fourth floor. Just turn a few corners from here and you’ll get there.”
So Ginny closed her diary again, extinguished the light of her wand, and quietly walked out.
A few minutes later, another dark figure appeared here.
"Hurry, Mrs. Lorris—catch those brats who broke the rules! I heard them!" Filch's voice was hoarse and unpleasant, like that of an evil wizard who had drunk too much magic potion. But if that were the case, he might actually be happier.
He wasn't very good at walking, and he awkwardly trotted over, carrying an oil lamp in one hand.
"Ah, found it, a lock! Careless fellow!" He excitedly picked up the chain that had fallen to the ground. He really wanted to tie the chain to those little wizards and hang them from the roof for days!
