Evil should be slain.

But now, perhaps he needs to find himself first.

What exactly does it mean to be a knight?

"You talked to him a lot."

On the way back, Momokawa couldn't help but say this to Igris.

"He seems very strong, but he doesn't seem to be very bright."

"At least he did want to stand on the side of justice."

Igris shrugged nonchalantly and continued.

"Besides, don't you think he's a little pitiful?"

I don't think so.

"...Times have changed, and he is no longer the mainstream of the times, but injustice and oppression still exist in the world, so this relic of the old era is still awakened and tries to solve everything."

Igris paused to consider her words before speaking.

"It's like, you fight for the betterment of the world while you're alive, until the end of your life, but when you die, the world is still broken and desolate, so you have to crawl out of the dirt, pick up your rusty sword again, and continue to uphold justice."

"He was a knight, but in this era, knights no longer had any glory or rights, nor were they recognized by the world, so everything he did would not be rewarded in the first place."

"But he did it anyway, because he was never after wealth or money."

Igris suddenly felt a pang of emotion, after all, this was the image of a knight in her mind.

"But the world will not welcome someone who only uses force to promote justice."

Igris was silent for a moment before slowly replying.

"So he doesn't need to be welcomed."

The Gods' Fool - The Last Knight: Chapter Thirty-One, The Priest's Invitation (3/5)

October 6th, sunny.

Olivia is still not at the office today. Igris doesn't know where she went; she's probably been called away by Rin to help out again.

She's almost used to it, and since the agency isn't open today, Igris can still take a paid day off.

Alternatively, Yi Sanwu Qi Jiu Liu III Yue was already waiting at the firm for her few friends to come and invite her out.

The weather is pretty good today, and there's probably no chance of it raining. If someone invites her, Igris certainly won't refuse and would be happy to go out.

And so, as she had hoped, someone did come looking for her.

Unfortunately, it wasn't Momokawa.

"What an honor to have you here, Father? What brings you here today?"

Unexpectedly, it was Constantine who arrived.

He wasn't actually busy, or rather, he was incredibly idle most of the time, but he rarely took the initiative to contact Igris, not because he disliked Igris, but simply because he didn't want to cause trouble.

Frequent contact with Igris could very likely lead to trouble he shouldn't get into, so he was acutely aware of what he should and shouldn't do.

But he still came today.

"I brought you a small gift. By the way... are you free today?"

Igris raised an eyebrow, her expression becoming somewhat strange.

"You have a terminal illness?"

Besides this, Igris couldn't think of any other possibility that would make the priest unusually take the initiative to invite her.

"I knew you'd think that way. Don't misunderstand, it's just that I need your help with something, it's a personal matter."

Constantine placed what he called a gift on the table; it was an exquisite box, the contents of which were not visible, but it was about the length of Igris's forearm.

"What could possibly warrant a Special Investigations officer specifically asking me for help?"

Igris picked up the box, shook it a couple of times, and couldn't tell what it was, so she was a little curious.

Constantine's expression turned sour, after all, he had already submitted his resignation, and although the result was not yet available, it probably wouldn't be long.

“It’s not a big deal. Someone is very curious about you, but for some special reasons, she can’t come to see you directly, so she asked me to take you to talk to her… This will determine whether I will be thrown in jail after I resign, so you will help, right?”

"That sounds suspicious, I'm not keen on granting this request..."

Despite saying that, Igris quickly opened the box, revealing its contents.

"...You give this to girls?"

I thought you would like it.

"..."

Igris paused for a moment, then raised a strangely shaped axe.

It was very light, at least for her strength, she could still swing it easily, and this axe did not seem to be used for chopping wood. Its blade was very sharp, even having a blood groove carved into it. Its light and slender overall structure made it look more like a weapon than a tool.

"I do...like it."

But Igris was more curious about where he got this thing from, whether it was from the Special Investigations Department?

"This isn't the kind of weapon you can buy at a hardware store..."

"This has a lot to do with the people who want to see you. Would you like to consider it? My future life may depend entirely on you."

This gift is quite precious. Although it may not be useful to everyone, Igris really likes it and probably finds it to be quite valuable.

Besides, she did want to help Constantine; after all… he should be considered Igris's friend, right?

Even if it isn't true, I'll probably let it go after helping with this.

"I can agree to that, but before we go, you have to tell me the person's identity and specific address. I don't want to accidentally be taken into some terrorist organization."

Igris also needed to ensure her own safety, although she preferred to trust Constantine.

"Hmm... okay, I don't know if Ling has mentioned it to you."

Constantine scratched his head, looking somewhat troubled as he carefully considered his words.

“There are actually Special Investigations (SI) agents stationed in the area. And because of the size of Morkens, the SI here is not completely merged with the police department like it was in Morkens. They are an independent department, but because of their involvement with the gang, they have all been suspended from their operational authority. So the police department and dispatched agents are now in full charge. The place I'm taking you to is here. The person who wants to see you is the stationed agent in this city, and also the nominal leader of the SI, Alex.”

Igris stroked her chin and asked in return.

"Is that the agent who wiped out an entire underground gang but was suspended after being reported for using excessively cruel methods?"

"...It seems you know her."

"What does she want from me? I haven't done anything particularly noticeable here."

Igris had always been quite well-behaved in Molkens and hadn't done anything earth-shattering. Apart from secretly killing a god's son, chatting with a knight, and completing a quest that was intercepted by the police halfway through, resulting in her not receiving a single penny, she hadn't done anything else.

Incidentally, the factory was still shut down, thanks to the clues Taochuan found in the southern suburban forest, which brought more attention to the factory and led to its closure shortly after the investigation began.

“She’s quite familiar with Passa. Passa told her about you…and said that since you’re here, something big is probably going to happen again, and told her to be careful.”

Iglesias felt that Pasa had a deep misunderstanding of her, but she couldn't refute it.

It seems that ever since she woke up, bad things have happened wherever she goes.

"I never thought that someone like Passa could make friends."

Constantine shook his head.

“They don’t get along. Every time they talk on the phone, they end up arguing with each other for more than half an hour. That’s why I know so much about it.”

"…Ha ha."

It must have been tough on Passa.

"So...when do we set off?"

"It's possible right now, and it's not far from here."

Constantine said, glancing at the sky outside.

"Besides... the weather is nice, so there's no need to worry about rain."

"Looks like you haven't gotten used to the city's climate either?"

Igris wasn't the only one suffering from the rain, which made her quite happy.

Constantine smiled and sighed, saying nothing more.

Igris followed her out of the office, making sure to lock the door to prevent anyone from taking things away. Olivia also had a key, so there was no need to worry about her not being able to get in.

More importantly, she could also know that Igris had gone out on business, rather than disappearing into thin air.

"So the ostracism you're talking about isn't a matter for the police station, but for those people in the Special Investigations Unit?"

"Yes, Alex has a lot of men under his command. They are also field agents of the Special Investigations Department. Although they are not government employees, they all take orders from Alex. Nobody knows where those people came from. Relying on Alex's backing, they have given me a lot of trouble... They are a bunch of bastards."

"It seems you've harbored this grudge for a long time."

Constantine sighed, saying with a hint of helplessness.

"After all, I'm just an intern at the company, not even a proper employee. Ling is alright, at least they treat her with the respect she deserves, but they don't treat me that way at all."

Igris stroked her chin and asked thoughtfully.

"Didn't Ling say anything on your behalf?"

"Of course she is. She's a very kind person, but that's not very helpful, since she's only been here for a short time."

"...It's not nice to say this, but you know what, I feel like you're a little kid who's been bullied and is going to your parents to complain."

Igris knew it was wrong to say that, but she said it anyway.

Constantine glanced at Igris and said sullenly.

"I can't do anything about them. Even if we fight, I can't beat so many of them."

"But you don't need to resign, do you? After all, weren't you and Ling sent here? You'll be leaving eventually, won't you?"

Constantine shook his head.

“Ling will leave, but I won’t. After my internship, I will officially join the Special Investigations Department here and become one of those bastards. Do you know how painful it was for me when I heard this news? It’s like… having to live with the people you hate the most.”
