A series of popping sounds from the Apparition Charm rang out, indicating that Nietzsche's reinforcements had arrived—SHD stormtroopers clad in full white armor suddenly appeared throughout the conference hall.
Each of their faces was covered by helmets with fin-shaped 'Y' masks, and their synchronized steps seemed to tread on the chests of the wizards.
The white breastplate is decorated with runes in the center. While not as protective as a meticulously crafted badge, it is still sufficient to ward off all black magic except for the Unforgivable Curse.
Each house-elf leads nine stormtroopers, with the sergeant at the head wearing a white shoulder guard on his right shoulder. Each squad of four house-elves forms a platoon... Judging from the number of people present, it's about a full company.
And this is just the most insignificant part of the Muggle community.
"I hereby declare you officially wanted by the Magical Congress! Seize him!" Chairman Kouhaug roared. "Seize that wizard who defied the Wizarding Union!"
"Switch to non-lethal mode and take over the Magic Congress," Nietzsche coldly issued the order.
The Explosion Charm is not suitable for use inside a building, and it can actually increase the number of spirit cats.
With the orders from both commanders, a small, localized battle broke out. Countless spirit cats flitted around the Aurors, taking turns shielding the wizards from non-lethal stun spells, but their splitting properties also rendered control magic ineffective.
What is firepower?
For wizards, the 'Iron Wand' in the hands of stormtroopers is an object of no pleasure. The orderly teamwork and the assistance of house-elves cause the strings of reason in the hearts of American wizards to snap.
“That’s… a Muggle weapon?” Polpontina Goldstein frowned. “I’ve heard Jacob mention it, but he never said that Muggles have also studied magic.”
Nietzsche speculated that 'Jacob' was probably an ordinary person who knew wizards well.
“Ms. Goldstein, this is the result of the alliance between wizards and Muggles.” He led her away from the battlefield.
“Just call me Tina. My husband knows Dumbledore…” Tina clicked her tongue and continued, “Okay, I can understand a little better why the Muggles are pressuring the Magical Congress.”
Simple stun, petrify, and knockback spells struck the stormtrooper's white armor, merely causing him to pause briefly and utter a few muffled groans of pain before the magical energy was neutralized by the runes attached to it.
While the wizards were casting their spells, the stormtroopers' blast guns would roar, firing fifteen stun spells per second.
Wizarding wars usually consist of a few spells of dark magic interspersed among silent spells, while the opponent uses transformation spells or dark magic to try to escape the predicament and launch a counterattack during the intervals when the attack is blocked by armor spells.
But now... Tina had never encountered a battle of this scale before, and her first thought was of the prophecy that Grindelwald had shown in France.
“Chairman Kouhauge mentioned earlier that your grandson was a graduate of Hogwarts, so why are you back here?” Nietzsche stepped forward, using a gentle tone to ease the other’s tense expression.
Tina Goldstein's husband must be Newt Scamander. How could a retired Auror suddenly return to the Magical Congress?
“I’m here to investigate a death. According to the Muggles, an English child died on the ferry,” Tina sighed. “You shouldn’t have come at this time. The Magical Congress has a very bad reputation among the Muggles, so…”
"So you want to regain the Muggle's trust?" Nietzsche saw through her thoughts.
Analysis of clues revealed in conversation and language suggests that most information about Muggle society was obtained through Jacob, and it was this close connection that led the Goldstein family to follow Scamander back to England.
The laziness of the British Ministry of Magic and the British government is a blessing in disguise for some, at least the Magical Congress doesn't enforce the Secrets Act with such high pressure.
Having experienced the World Wizarding War initiated by Grindelwald, Tina is undoubtedly an amicable person.
“Listen, I intend to retrieve the corpse of the Muggle.” Tina pulled her wand from her sleeve and said firmly, “I trust Dumbledore, so I will not stop you. I only want to save the dying MacUSA.”
A whooshing sound came from behind, and Nietzsche saw a green light reflected in her terrified eyes.
It was a killing spell cast in a fit of rage by an Auror before he fell. Nietzsche could sense the change in the surrounding magic and raised his wand without turning his head.
"There are many obstacles."
The killing curse, a symbol of death, became stuck in the quagmire, its flight speed slowing down until it finally stopped in mid-air and dissipated as its magic power was lost.
“Dobby, get this place under control,” Nietzsche said with deep respect.
“It is my duty, Mr. Holmes,” Dobby exclaimed excitedly.
Nietzsche greatly respected the elderly Tina, not because she knew Dumbledore or had helped defeat Grindelwald, but because she had her own 'responsibilities'.
This sense of responsibility once led her to attack a child abuser and nearly lose her job; now it allows her to distinguish what is most important to address at present.
Eighteen stormtroopers stood on either side of the passageway, escorting Nietzsche and Tina out of the conference hall and sealing the doors of the Magic Council.
“But I’m also very grateful to you for getting me out of this predicament, otherwise this matter would have been hidden by Congress again. Please come with me.” Tina grabbed the badge from the staff member who had raised his hands in surrender and swiped it against the wall to open an iron door leading to the underground.
The basement of MACUSA has only one floor, and the entire corridor is painted pure white.
As Nietzsche passed through a room, he saw it filled with a smooth, black liquid, and a chair floating in the air.
"This is the execution chamber. Be careful not to get your hands on those death potions; they can dissolve the prisoner along with the chair." Tina pulled Nietzsche, who had come to visit, out and turned into a corner.
The two sides were lined with iron cabinets, leaving only a narrow passage in the middle. The chandelier overhead flickered because of the commotion above, as if it might go out at any moment.
Tina raised her wand and pulled out the entire iron cabinet, observing the dead wizards and Muggles.
“No, not an adult, not a woman…maybe this? There are four or five children here.” Each time she denied it, the cabinets on both sides would close again, until only a few small corpses remained.
Nietzsche glanced at them and noticed that several of them had broken throats, purplish-blue skin on their faces, and bulging eyes, as if they had been strangled to death.
However, his attention was quickly drawn to another corpse—dry, golden-white hair, a grayish-black body, cracked skin, atrophied muscles, and an unyielding, furrowed brow.
Although it was very different from before, Nietzsche still recognized it.
"Malfoy..." he murmured the corpse's name.
"You know him?"
Tina placed the cabinet on the ground and was about to go over to examine it when Nietzsche raised his hand to stop her rash action just as her fingers were about to touch her skin.
“Don’t touch him!” he said, squinting. “I know how they died.”
Based on the characteristics of their deaths, only two people in the wizarding world fit the bill: Morfin Gaunt, who is already dead, and Gellert Grindelwald, who is on the verge of death.
Chapter 404 The Corpse Speaks
The Resurrection Stone Curse and the Resurrection Stone Poison both share a similar characteristic with the Resurrection Stone in fairy tales: they cause people to die in an illusion and gradually develop the characteristics of a corpse.
Nietzsche shifted his gaze to his wrist but did not see the Gaunt family's resurrection stone ring.
It seems that Draco was unaware of the curse on the Horcrux and just happened to die while fleeing to the Magical Congress of America. So why did the ring disappear after his death?
“It’s been taken.” Draco Malfoy suddenly opened his eyes and said dryly.
His body, as thin as a large matchstick, remained motionless. His eyes were pitch black, as if his soul had crawled out of the river. His facial skin was stiff, with only his mouth opening and closing.
Nietzsche rubbed his temples; clearly, his active mind had once again caused him to experience a deep-seated hallucination.
"What about the other two children?" He looked up and asked for details. "You said it was just about dealing with a British child who died on the ferry, but why are there two locals lying in the Magical Parliament?"
"He's a wizard's child; I don't think he has anything to do with Muggles..."
Nietzsche silently untied his tie, transformed it into a whip, and walked up to the two boys under Tina's bewildered gaze. He swung the whip like a madman, leaving several marks on their gray skin.
This almost sacrilegious act made Tina's eyes widen, but before she could say anything, he quickly squatted down and touched the bruises that were beginning to appear.
“No more than three days,” Nietzsche recalled of his father’s study of the bodies. “The ferry from England to America would take at least six days, so their deaths must have occurred after Malfoy… Where were the bodies found?”
Tina used a summoning spell to bring the crumpled notebook over and carefully searched through it for a while.
“Fifth Avenue,” she stammered, glancing at the notes, “the Lower East Side of Manhattan.”
"Hmm...from the Gulf of Mexico."
If there is no second person who died in the exact same way as Malfoy, then it means that someone is very familiar with the process of the curse taking effect, and it also means that person was responsible for escorting Malfoy.
He died, and then took the resurrection stone ring...
However, one more thing needs to be inserted during the process.
"So who was escorting you?" Nietzsche stroked his chin and muttered in a voice only he could hear, "Since Voldemort dared to let you leave England, he must be planning to transfer the Horcruxes."
For some reason, even though Tina couldn't hear, she felt as if Nietzsche was talking to a corpse when she saw his lips trembling.
She frowned and shook her head, rejecting the insane idea in her mind. Whipping a corpse was already a desecration, so how could anyone talk to a corpse? Besides, there was no such magic in the magical world.
"The Hufflepuff Cup." Draco Malfoy embodied Nietzsche's conjecture.
“Yes, Voldemort didn’t know the Golden Cup had been switched, and he couldn’t sense whether the Horcrux had been destroyed.” Nietzsche nodded to himself.
"He was a despicable fellow who stole the Resurrection Stone and the Chalice after I died... but he wasn't cursed by the Resurrection Stone, which means he didn't even make direct physical contact with me."
Nietzsche looked at him with a pity in his eyes. This poor fool's mother thought she had made a good deal with Voldemort, but in the end, she was only pushing her son into a fire pit.
"If only you could be this honest while you're alive," Nietzsche exclaimed.
Upon hearing this, Tina's gaze became even more peculiar, as if she had heard a ghost's chilling scream in the middle of the night.
Nietzsche then covered Draco with a white sheet and coldly burned the mummified corpse to ashes with a torch—now that the questioning was over, there was no need to keep this body, which was at risk of turning into a zombie at any moment.
That said, even though he knew it was a fantasy, he still felt like he was killing someone to cover it up...
“Well then, why were you two killed by him?” Nietzsche turned around and observed the wizard’s children. “Your throats were under tremendous pressure, as if you had been strangled by a giant.”
The blond boy suddenly sat up. He couldn't speak, so he could only point to his broken neck.
“Yes, strangled to death…” Nietzsche said self-deprecatingly, “Only Hermione and I know how to use magic to choke you, so the person who killed you used brute force.”
The boy nodded and lay back down.
"Are you alright?" Tina's voice brought Nietzsche back to reality.
“Very good, very good... I think I know who it is.” Nietzsche suppressed part of the fact and selectively said, “It was Peter Pettigrew, one of the Death Eaters. He killed the three children.”
He paused for a moment, and after confirming that Tina Goldstein knew nothing about the Malfoy family in Britain, he continued: "After Peter killed Draco, he fled to Manhattan and clashed with the local wizards."
Nietzsche raised his wand, but Little Star's silver hand seemed to have vanished, and he could not sense it no matter how he tried.
As Draco said, Peter Pettigrew took the Resurrection Stone ring after his death, and thus the cursed ring, upon contact with the Silver Hand, blocked Nietzsche's magic.
“Would you like to come along?” Nietzsche stood up and extended his left arm to the elderly, retired Auror.
"Where to?" Tina continued, "Don't forget, this is still the Magic Council, you can't use Apparition here."
"Why don't we try and see? Maybe it's a cheap rental room, or maybe it's a sewer full of rats."
Chapter 405 The Greatest Episode of Pettigrew
"Tick-tock---"
The oil stains, human filth, industrial wastewater, and food scraps here come from the Lower East Side of Manhattan above. Nietzsche, sporting the Bubble Head Curse, walks along the sides of the sewage channels, occasionally stepping on the carcasses of rats killed by their own kind.
Five feet above the well opening above his head was the site of the deaths of the two wizard children.
“If Peter Pettigrew fled to America, how could he be so stupid as to kill two children?” Tina Goldstein’s voice sounded weak and muffled because of the Bubble Head Curse.
