"Yes, Your Highness."
You have temporarily postponed your plans to return to the royal court with Morgan.
You know that doing this is disobeying King Uther's orders.
But you know better than anyone how Morgan feels right now.
You can't bear to see her return to the royal court so dejected; you know that would be incredibly painful for her.
You and Morgan have strayed from the original path.
The two of you arrived at a forest, where a clear lake appeared before you.
"Ian."
Morgan pulled on the reins, bringing her horse to a stop.
"I'm tired, let me rest here for a while."
"Understood, Your Highness."
Upon receiving the order, Ian first stopped his horse, then dismounted and went to Morgan's side to serve her.
"Please be careful, Your Highness."
"Well, I know."
With Ian's help, Morgan gracefully dismounted from the horse.
The two fine warhorses from Britain were gentle and intelligent; they began to graze on the grass without Ian's prompting.
"Ian."
"Here I am."
"What do you think of it here?"
"Um……"
Because of Morgan's words, Ian began to examine the forest.
What I saw was a lush green forest, with many tall trees growing here, and evergreen vines hanging down from the tree crowns like a young girl's flowing hair.
Sunlight filters through the crown-like green leaves, casting patches of light and shadow on the forest path.
Flowers bloom on both sides, dotting the lush green grass.
Not far away lies an elegant lake.
Its shimmering surface is so clear that you can see the bottom. The crystal-clear lake water is free of any impurities, and if you're not careful, you might mistake it for a piece of jade.
“It’s beautiful,” Ian answered truthfully. “I’ve never seen a view like this before.”
"And what about compared to me?" Morgan suddenly asked.
"It's beautiful."
"Why!"
“Because no matter how this forest changes, it is still within the scope of what words can describe,” Ian said, looking at Morgan.
"But Your Highness, you cannot be described by any single poem."
"Ah."
Morgan gave a cold laugh.
"That's quite a compliment. Is this all you've learned from your experience infiltrating under Vortigern?"
“No.” Ian shook his head.
"Your Highness, if it's a compliment, I can put it in a much nicer way."
"But in my heart, you truly cannot be described by any external object."
Upon hearing this, Morgan turned his head away.
"Forget it... I won't argue with you about this kind of thing."
Morgan will no longer argue with you about whether she or the lake is more beautiful.
She walked ahead, unusually, as if she were leading you somewhere.
You followed them.
Finally, you stopped by the lake.
Morgan has made an unexpected request—she wants you to bathe her feet here.
You didn't refuse her; instead, you diligently followed her instructions.
The moment you touched her foot, you sensed something unusual.
You realize that she has also cast a spell on herself.
"It's completely different from what I imagined, isn't it?"
As Morgan watched Ian remove his armor and wash his feet in the lake, he rested his chin on his hand and asked this question.
“Yes.” Ian nodded very sincerely.
“Your Highness, it is indeed completely different from what I imagined.”
"It captivated me."
Although he had been touched by Morgan's feet many times, this was the first time he had personally gotten involved like this.
It was a fair and soft foot, without a single wrinkle or scar.
The bones of her toes supported her beautiful skin, and there was not a speck of dirt between her toes. The inner instep was slightly gathered together because of Ian's grip, but it still maintained its proper uprightness.
The ankle area forms a complete arc.
Ian felt that calling such feet works of art was probably not an exaggeration.
"Is that so?" A barely perceptible smile appeared on Morgan's lips.
"Did you know that it originated from the lake right beneath your feet?"
Ian quickly realized what was happening.
"Your Highness, is this where you were born?"
Morgan didn't answer the question, but the slightly nostalgic expression on her face said it all.
“Answer me, Ian.”
Now that you know about this, are you still tempted by it?
“Of course,” Ian answered without hesitation, “It’s the same every day and every night.”
“You’re lying to me.” Morgan looked directly at Ian beneath him. “No one needs a princess born in a lake.”
“But I never lie to you, Your Highness.”
Ian held Morgan's foot, gently stroking her jade-like skin.
It was a delicate and smooth sensation, like touching milk, without any stiffness whatsoever.
Clearly, Morgan's magic preserved her beauty to its best, preventing it from fading with time and battles.
"If this is where you were born, I would be happier than ever before."
"Because of your birth, this place has been blessed; the lake is clear because of you, and the trees are thriving because of you."
"You are the owner of this forest, and they, like knights of Britain, are grateful for your arrival."
Morgan remained silent for a long time after hearing this.
Faced with Ian's praise, she did not feel happy as usual, but instead looked very sad.
Her long, slender eyebrows drooped slightly on her beautiful face, like a tragic song at the end of a play, and her indigo eyes, hidden by her willow-leaf eyebrows, revealed a sense of loneliness.
After a while, she seemed to have recovered and spoke to the man in the lake before her in a voice that was no longer arrogant:
“Ian, but what if I’m destined to be abandoned by my father all along? And never have the possibility of becoming king?”
"Will you... still be my knight?"
17. Cry while you're happy.
You sensed the sorrow in Morgan's words.
You realize she's hiding many things from you.
However, you know you need to answer her question first.
“Your Highness, regardless of the past.” Ian lowered his head and stroked the clear lake water, letting it gently ripple over Morgan’s feet.
"At least now I am your knight, and I will always be your knight."
“Stop lying, Ian.” Morgan’s expression was utterly forlorn. “You’ll leave me sooner or later.”
“It is indeed impossible for me to always be by your side, Your Highness.”
Ian said slowly and deliberately.
"Because I will go to great lengths to meet Your Highness's needs, and I will also be willing to give my life when necessary for your purposes."
"I cannot guarantee that I will be by your side every moment, but I promise that I will set off overnight at your call, even if I am in hell."
Other knights might not be able to convince anyone by saying this.
But Ian was merely repeating his own actions when he said that.
Morgan can't refute what you're saying.
She doesn't seem to like being contradicted by you.
She threw a little tantrum.
She splashed the lake water with her foot, spraying it onto your face.
You are not angry about this behavior.
On the contrary, you are pleased that you know Morgan is venting his frustrations in this way.
