The essence of civilization's development is plunder and conquest. This includes competition between individuals, wars between nations, and the elimination of one race from another. The world has only so many resources; to develop, one must inevitably seize the living space of other species.
Just as Otto once did, the world bubbles floating in the Sea of Quanta, no matter how huge, are nothing more than dust and debris of the world. These dust and debris will eventually fall back to where they were born. Rather than waiting for them to die naturally, it is better to take action first and plunder all the resources in the world bubbles for one's own use.
By the time the thirty-man group stationed in Sumeru finally quelled the internal turmoil, restored some order, and deployed manpower to fight the attacking mechanical legion, it was already too late.
The people of Teyvat had never witnessed the power of the mechs. When the mercenaries, armed with all sorts of spears and swords and clad in armor, climbed onto the walls outside Sumeru City, the world before them was completely transformed.
A row of rectangular steel boxes, each over six meters tall, was fixed to the ground at intervals by six thick iron rods. Each of these boxes had a thick iron pipe at the top that could rotate 360 degrees. Mercenaries who had seen the Relic Mechs before quickly recognized that these were the muzzles of missiles.
However, unlike the small missiles equipped by the Relic Mechs, the iron tubes on these iron boxes are unusually thick, enough to fit an adult's thigh. It's hard to imagine what kind of power they would have after being launched.
This is another basic unit of the Bai Chen Mechanical Legion: the city defense tank. Its function is as simple and brutal as its name suggests. Although these tanks move slowly, once they are set up, they become veritable immovable fortresses. They have thick alloy plates, repulsive field shields driven by Honkai energy, more than ten small mortars in addition to the main turret, and dense machine gun arrays mounted on four sides of the vehicle for close-range defense.
As for its main gun, believe me, it was designed to destroy key enemy defenses and buildings; any firing at it against people is inhumane. No one wants to be hit head-on by such a main gun unless they're already inhuman.
These behemoths would be the main force in wars even in the Honkai world. Without the use of weapons of mass destruction or flying units to clear the way, no ordinary human mechanical field army would dare to charge their defenses head-on.
At this moment, nearly ten thousand city defense tanks had formed a circle, blocking the front and sides of Xumi City. And more city defense tanks were continuously advancing from behind, circling towards the rear of Xumi, aiming to completely encircle the city.
In addition to these city defense tanks, there are tens of thousands of small humanoid robots, the Guardian Robots, patrolling in front and behind. Each squadron of Guardian Robots is followed by two Heimdall robots at the head, and above them, ten Falcon-type unmanned combat drones monitor the airspace.
A combined air and ground combat force, fully automated and unmanned. This combat concept, even if it were on Earth in Bai Chen's previous life, would be enough to shock the world and become a revolutionary tactic for a world-class superpower. Not to mention that there is also the Olympus system in the sky that can manipulate celestial phenomena and even airdrop space-based weapons and nuclear weapons from orbit to carry out targeted strikes on Sumeru City below.
"Should we... go back up?"
A mercenary with a red headband that made him look like a character from Naruto glanced at the mechanical legion surrounding the city walls, then at the thin dagger in his hand, and muttered to himself in a daze.
No one answered him. The thirty members of the group, who had been so proud and arrogant, all squatted down on the walls of Sumeru. The entire top of the wall was silent. No one went out first, and no one wanted to attack those inexplicable things on the other side.
If the enemy were to arrive, they would certainly not back down. These mercenaries from the desert believed in courage and swordsmanship, and for them, cowardice was a vice that deserved to be despised by everyone.
But those weren't enemies at all; they were defensive fortifications. Would anyone in this world be so foolish as to use their own flesh and blood to attack an enemy's stronghold?
The answer is yes.
At one corner of the city wall, a slender figure, wielding a greatsword, leaped down and charged towards the defensive line formed by the city's tanks. Pale red flames ignited around her; the Eye of the Fire Element granted her unparalleled power and formidable elemental skills.
However, she was not greeted by city defense tanks, but by a patrolling Heimdall squad. In an instant, bullets, artillery fire, and laser beams erupted from the squad, and flames and explosions more intense than fire elements engulfed her slender yet courageous figure.
All the mercenaries looked up, their eyes filled with anticipation as they watched the smoke and dust from the explosion. They knew it was a powerful elementalist, and these lucky ones, blessed by the gods, were now their only hope.
Unfortunately, when the smoke cleared, all that remained was a deep pit where flowers and plants had been burned, and a young mercenary lying in the pit, badly injured and on the verge of death.
With the mineral replenishment from the Layered Rock Abyss, the mechanical legion's firepower has undergone an upgrade. Although Bai Chen predicted that there wouldn't be much bloodshed, it's better to be prepared. There are so many people on the Teyvat continent; even wild boars in the mountains would take days and nights to kill.
The mercenary's fall was not the end; it seemed her courage inspired the younger generation, and many young mercenaries also leaped out of Sumeru City, charging towards the Iron Legion's defensive line. They let out tremendous shouts, as if pouring their courage and will into their blades.
However, this charge was pointless; without exception, they all fell halfway. No matter how well a person's body is trained, without the blessing of the God's Eye, it's impossible to withstand a mech of Heimdall's caliber.
Fortunately, none of the mechanical legions completely lifted the killing restrictions. Even though the ground was full of severely wounded people groaning in pain, the number of people who died from accidental injuries still did not exceed one hundred.
Some of the older mercenaries quickly realized that the mechanical legion had no intention of killing, so they stopped the young upstarts who wanted to jump down and rescue their friends. One of the thirty-man leaders threw down his weapon, stood bare-handed with his hands raised high in the center of the arena, and after proving that he posed no threat, he bent down and carried a wounded mercenary on the ground, slowly walking back into the city step by step.
With the example set by their commander, the mercenaries laid down their weapons and came to the battlefield, collecting the remains of their comrades and carrying all the wounded back to the city for treatment.
The already almost non-existent morale completely dissipated. After a brief meeting, the top leaders of the thirty-man group decided to completely open up the defenses of Sumeru to reduce unnecessary casualties, and at the same time see what those relic mechs were up to.
As it turned out, the soldiers of these mechanized legions didn't intend to do anything to them; they simply transported thick steel walls and placed them behind the city's defensive tanks.
Some scholars from the Order of the Church were also observing the mechanical legion in the distance. Bound by mental shackles, almost all of their once-proud intelligent creations had lost their effectiveness. Not that they had lost their original purpose, but rather that they had forgotten how to use those items.
But they only lost their further wisdom; they didn't become fools. Soon, they understood the sinister actions of the mechanical legion.
"There are no farmlands within Sumeru City." It was unclear which scholar from the Order of the Church uttered this statement, but immediately, all the members of the Order of the Church erupted in uproar.
As a large city, Sumeru City is filled with various compact buildings, leaving no room for farmland. However, this was never a problem in the past. With its boundless grasslands and forests, Sumeru would never lack food. Under the blessing of the Grass God, the wild beasts in the forest were almost endless, and every hunter who put their mind to it could not return empty-handed on a hunt.
This also resulted in Sumeru not having the habit of stockpiling food. Instead, as the largest food exporter, it would export food products to other countries, especially to the winter solstice. But now, they are all trapped inside Sumeru City with steel walls, which means they can no longer receive any aid from the outside world. The food in the city is their only remaining resource. When all the food is consumed, all that awaits them is desperate hunger.
The panic originated in the Order of the Church and quickly spread throughout the entire city of Sumeru through rumors. The Order of the Church, which was originally the highest governing body, had not yet escaped the influence of mental shackles. In the face of this life-or-death crisis, the already fragile order collapsed instantly. The once peaceful and harmonious intelligent city completely lost its original appearance in just a few hours.
Robbery, vandalism, plunder... Under Hydra's orders, the mechanical legion did not harm too many of the people of Sumeru, but the internal war caused by human panic seemed poised to destroy this ancient city of wisdom.
The mercenaries in the group of thirty were initially trying to maintain order, but as despair and panic spread, this attempt to maintain order gradually became an impossible pipe dream, and many mercenaries even joined in the looting and rioting.
Just as everything was sliding into an irreversible abyss, a huge green light suddenly descended above the entire Sumeru City.
As the grass goddess who protects Mount Sumeru, she indeed lacks the ability to control the minds of every individual. However, she can disregard her own physical exhaustion and simultaneously drag millions of people into the deepest dream. In the dream, they will not panic or fight; they will only sink into the deepest and most tranquil slumber.
When the riots subsided, a small figure emerged from the city. She stood before a Heimdall statue, her hand pressed against her chest.
"I know you must be observing us in some way. Celestials from another world, I hope I can speak with you. In any case, the people are innocent."
What happened in Sumeru City also happened in all the other small towns and villages in this rainforest. However, those small towns where only forest rangers were stationed did not experience the same riots as in Sumeru City because of their small population and their own farmland and farmland.
Even in the largest port, Omos, the port's special function as a warehouse prevented major chaos. However, it still couldn't escape being imprisoned by the mechanical legion with walls. Even the entrance to the sea was blocked by barbed wire and high walls, preventing any fishing boats from passing through the estuary to go out to sea to fish.
Everything proceeded as planned, which was not surprising. After all, the mechanical legion that Bai Chen had assembled was a cross-generational and dimensional attack on the Teyvat natives. With the top Teyvat combatants unable to easily intervene, they couldn't interfere with his captive breeding operation at all.
Inside Valhalla, Bai Chen agreed to Narcida's request to meet and surrender, allowing Heimdall to take her back to Valhalla. Meanwhile, Dr. Mei finished observing the results of the children of God's wild release, put away the video recordings she was making, and came to his side.
"What are you planning to do next? If you keep the mental shackles in place at their current level, it won't be long before they regress to a barbaric era of slavery. You've destroyed everything they built on their digital system, and you've destroyed all their hope of maintaining the functioning of society," Dr. Mei asked with some curiosity.
“This is not what I want to see. A civilization from the age of slavery is of no use to us. The efficiency and technology of those slaves in mining and collecting would only damage precious minerals and waste food.”
Bai Chen shook his head. Of course he knew that what Dr. Mei said made a lot of sense, but he had already considered his next move.
"I will have the swarm manufacture nanny robots and industrial greenhouses, provide them with food, and supply them with the necessities of life. What they need to do is connect to the void, and immerse their entire spirit and brain in the void to an unprecedented depth. Those high walls are not just for keeping them in captivity. When our children of God are hungry, they will not care whether they are intelligent beings or not."
"You're not planning to reclaim the Child of God? Oh, I see, you want to use the Child of God to feed your little pet Naga." Dr. Mei quickly understood Bai Chen's intention and couldn't help but laugh. "This is truly the largest pet food bowl in history. You've actually turned this whole world into her dining table."
Bai Chen shrugged noncommittally: "That's only one aspect. Compared to data calculations, I have more faith in practical experiments. I will use the Teyvat civilization to conduct a stress test on the Alaya Consciousness Project. If they pass, they will naturally break out of this narrow world and step into the real interstellar universe with us."
"Of course, if it doesn't pass, there's still the Abyss we can use for a second experiment..."
Chapter Thirty-Nine: The Mystery of the Birth of the Teyvat Beings
Emptiness is a unique feature of Mount Sumeru.
It's quite strange, though. They all live on the same continent, yet the lives of people in different city-states are vastly different. The Void System is a welfare benefit that all people in Sumeru can enjoy. It looks like a leaf-shaped ornament worn on the head, but it is actually a holographic advanced AI.
The same holographic imaging technology was not fully implemented even in the Honkai world, but thanks to the legacy of the former Grass God Great Compassion Tree King, Sumeru achieved a connection between everyone and the void.
Once connected to the Void System, one can access the corresponding knowledge within it according to their own permission level. Theoretically speaking, if your permission is high enough, you will be one of the most knowledgeable people in the world when connected to the Void System.
Knowledge has value; knowledge is power. This statement is perfectly embodied in the Sumeru Void System. Similarly, this is why Sumeru performed so poorly after being imprisoned by the shackles of thought, showing almost no ability to resist.
However, this cannot overshadow the advantages of the Void System. Even Bai Chen is particularly interested in the Void System. This special system, which uses spiritual power and dreams to connect countless ordinary people who do not have the ability to use elements, and can even directly instill knowledge in them, is the prototype of the Alaya Consciousness Project that Bai Chen and his group need.
In fact, if it weren't for the fact that the powers between the two worlds are not completely interconnected and that elemental power ultimately cannot replace Honkai energy, Bai Chen would have even considered directly relocating the entire Void System into the Honkai world as part of the main unit of the Alaya Consciousness Project.
"Speaking of which, the Geo Archon has already awakened. I had a brief conversation with him before and got some very interesting information from him," Dr. Mei suddenly said.
"What other interesting things are there about Teyvat?" Bai Chen asked, somewhat puzzled.
"In the most ancient legends of this world, when the world was first created, the seven elements were not divided, and there was only one light, which was the first wisp of energy at the beginning of heaven and earth. But later, in order to create heaven and earth and all things, the original creator divided this wisp of energy, and thus the power of the seven elements was born."
"You mean to say that this world initially used Honkai energy or quantum imaginary energy, until some primordial creator differentiated the energy into seven elemental forces?" Bai Chen finally became interested.
“That’s right. And if Morax wasn’t lying to me, the primordial creator is still in this world, only we don’t know which ruin’s seal he’s sleeping in.” Dr. May’s face showed a strange expression, as if he had some unusual thoughts about the primordial creator.
"There is only one person in this world who knows the location of the original creator, and that is the Heavenly Principle, which governs all the rules governing the world. Morax says he knows how to meet the Heavenly Principle, but he will only tell you this method to one person, and you must exchange with him."
Bai Chen nodded. Although he was not the actual leader of the team, things had developed to this point, and everyone had their own plans. The task of handling external liaison fell right on Bai Chen's shoulders.
There's nothing more to worry about here. Hydra will now take over all operations and continue to build a high enough steel wall to confine the entire Sumeru within.
In the first few days, the mechanical legion will not provide any supplies or food until food is exhausted, at which point limited rationing will be implemented. If there are no new developments, fair rationing will become the main way of life in Teyvat.
It can be considered as a form of communism, and it can be said that it has completed several stages of human history and civilization in the simplest way.
Bai Chen arrived at the bottom level of the Hall of Heroes, where there was a huge room. The room was surrounded by various energy sealing devices, making it look like a giant sealed box.
In the center of the room, Morax sat cross-legged, eyes closed in meditation. He only opened his eyes when Bai Chen sat down beside him.
"Zhongli, would you like to try this? It's a precious drink from heaven, cola."
Bai Chen placed two cups and a bottle of Coca-Cola in one of them. He filled both cups with black sparkling water, then took out a small box of fried peanuts, picked one out, and put it in his mouth.
Zhongli had never seen cola before, but he picked it up with great interest, took a small sip, and then frowned and put it down.
"The water of this other world is ultimately not to our liking. Celestials, Teyvat is not a place for you to stay for long. Once you find what you want, leave as soon as possible."
"Ha, to be honest, what I like most is saying no to other people's suggestions. So I just asked directly, Zhongli, what exactly did Kanria dig up back then that made Heaven's Justice intervene so urgently?"
“That is an interstellar spaceship belonging to you celestial beings.”
Zhongli remained seated cross-legged, speaking with a wistful expression.
He had promised not to tell anyone about this, and indeed, if they were still beings from this world, no one could get the answer to this question from him. But now, Bai Chen and these demons from another world were acting with extreme impunity, even imposing mental shackles on all of humanity, leaving Morax no choice but to speak up.
In any case, the ultimate goal of these people from another world is also that lofty Heavenly Principle, so let them clash with each other. In the end, no matter who wins or loses, the situation will not be worse than it is now.
Bai Chen was stunned for a moment. Although he was prepared, hearing the word from Zhong Li's mouth still made him feel unreal.
In this Teyvat world where even the starry sky is an illusion, there is actually a god who knows about interstellar spaceships. He truly deserves to be one of the oldest gods. The same question is one that even the little grass god of Mount Sumeru probably couldn't find the answer in the legacy of the Tree of Wisdom.
"Interstellar transport ship? Do you really understand the meaning of that name?"
"Although the starry sky above this continent is just an illusory canopy, I do know that beyond this illusory canopy lies a real, boundless darkness. There is no power of destiny among those stars, and they cannot reveal anyone's fate, but each star is a completely new world, even surpassing the land beneath our feet."
Now that things have been said, there's nothing more that can't be said. Zhongli shifted his body slightly, picked out two peanuts from the plate, and began to recall those old stories.
“Some things weren’t so unspeakable at first, at least not before I was born. Back then, a legend circulated in the memories of the ley lines: tens of thousands of years ago, a divine iron from the heavens pierced the core of the ley lines, and countless lives took root and sprouted within it.” Zhongli pointed to the earth beneath his feet. “Back then, the earth still had memories; everything that happened on this land could be read by the spirits that grew from it. And I happened to be the strongest of all the beings born from the ley lines, the most closely connected to them, and the one who heard the most.”
"But later all these memories were erased by the Heavenly Principle, because she no longer allowed the earth to seek that divine iron that would pierce into the ground."
"Wait a minute, there's a twist to this story. Zhongli, you told me it was an interstellar spaceship, but why would an interstellar spaceship become the source of life in the divine iron? It's an interstellar spaceship, not the life-giving tree of the elves." Bai Chen interrupted Zhongli's narration; the story had seemed bizarre from the very beginning.
They came to this world to find Teyvat, a member of the Firemoth who disappeared 50,000 years ago in the Sea of Quanta, and the Ark Beacon that Teyvat carried with her. Even though the spaceship Teyvat was traveling in was very luxurious, it was still just a spaceship and could never bear fruit.
However, before Zhong Li could answer, Dr. Mei, who had come with Bai Chen, placed her tablet in front of Bai Chen.
"I'll answer that question for you. Because the interstellar spaceship that landed on this world back then wasn't the one from the Fire Moth, but another alien ship with colonization capabilities."
On the tablet Dr. Mei handed to Bai Chen was a summary of all her work during this period. Since arriving in Teyvat, Dr. Mei had been dedicated to analyzing the complex and diverse genetic makeup of the world's organisms, while Bai Chen, having been busy with other matters, had not yet found the time to look at Dr. Mei's research findings.
Bai Chen's current level of biology is at least at the doctoral level. After a cursory glance, he couldn't help but exclaim in amazement.
According to Dr. May's research, the genes of most organisms whose samples have been collected on the continent of Teyvat have undergone some degree of modification. This modification is difficult to detect after countless generations of inheritance; however, by comparing the genes of multiple races longitudinally, traces of similar traits can still be found.
"Some of the creatures on this continent did not form naturally, but originated from a biological experiment? Did the interstellar spaceships that landed on this world bring most of the genetic species from the continent of Teyvat?"
"To be precise, that's not the case. You can take another look at the genetic analysis of the Teyvat humans. These people are essentially immigrants from the Honkai world. And they're not just immigrants; they're even carriers of the Stigmata Project genes. That kind of God's Eye is essentially a special application of Stigmata power."
Dr. Mei took out a wind-attribute Eye of God from her pocket. She was still wearing the Zero Divine Key. With a flash of light, she actually used Honkai energy to drive the Eye of God, creating an invisible wind field around her.
