Mysterious Resurrection: What If

Chapter 74 First Battle

Chapter 74 First Battle (Part 10)

The image gradually appeared along with the sound, but the picture quality was very blurry, as if it were the last fragment read from some ancient storage device.

As the camera pans, a desolate scene unfolds, with a vast sky filled with deathly black and gray lunar soil covering the earth.

There was no sound, not even a breeze, only the lonely footprints of spacesuits imprinted on the ground, bearing witness to a piece of history.

In the video, a human in a spacesuit is moving slowly. His steps are light due to the low gravity of the moon. Each step he takes raises a light dust that slowly dissipates in the silent vacuum, leaving a long shadow trailing behind him.

Empty, lonely.

The walking sequence lasted for about thirty seconds.

Suddenly, the screen jolted, the signal became distorted, and the background noise grew louder and louder, gradually becoming piercing, like someone breathing heavily. This was followed by a series of dull, monotonous footsteps.

"Zi-"

The signal was erratic, and the electrical current was piercing.

A hysterical scream came from the video: "What is that...run!!"

The camera shook violently, the entire scene descended into chaotic disarray, and the lens tilted sharply.

This was followed by footage of the camera falling to the ground.

The blurry, out-of-focus angle only captures the tilted horizon and the afterimage of the spacesuit.

Then, beep—

The sound stopped abruptly, and the screen fell silent for a brief moment.

Just when everyone thought the recording had ended, the screen lit up again, as if a long time had passed.

An astronaut sits alone on the desolate surface of the moon.

Behind me, in the cold universe, Earth floats silently in the vast vacuum, its azure light shining lonely in the endless darkness.

The spacesuit was covered in dust, the oxygen supply was nearing its limit, and a tired face was hidden in the shadow of the helmet.

He paused for a few seconds, then continued:
"The moon landing program was not exploration, but exile."

We took "it" with us and left Earth, but we can never go back.

His voice grew weaker and weaker, filled with despair.

"Listen, if you can see this footage, get away from here, get away from..."

Suddenly, the screen shook violently, and the camera was knocked off from behind by some force, falling onto the cold lunar soil.

The camera tilted behind the astronaut, and then captured a chilling scene.

Behind the astronaut, where there were originally only spacesuit footprints on the moon dust, a strange series of bare footprints had suddenly appeared.
The footprints were crooked and twisted, with distorted edges, as if some dried flesh had been dragged across the ground.
Immediately afterwards, through the camera, a lifeless face could be vaguely seen slowly emerging from the darkness behind the astronaut.

Pale, shriveled, and lifeless.

The wrinkles on his face were as deep as those of a withered old tree, and his sunken eye sockets held unfocused eyes that stared blankly at the man inside the spacesuit.
"Zi-"

The video abruptly stopped, and the screen fell silent. Above the Earth.
universe.

In the deep space between the Earth and the Moon, a thin mist hangs in the air, and within this eerie mist, an old, massive ship appears and disappears.

The dilapidated ship was riddled with cracks, and there was no living creature on the deck. It floated silently in the boundless universe.

A faint yellow light could be seen flickering inside the porthole, seemingly hinting at the presence of something unknown.

In the desolate universe, this dilapidated ghost ship sailed slowly, its trajectory stable, as if following a predetermined route.
"Project Ark, a surprise attack plan devised by the King Organization, with a ship full of vengeful ghosts as the key to the plan. The King Organization calls this ship the 'Ghost Ship'."

Li Jun put away the small black metal box and continued speaking:

"Professor Wang orchestrated a scheme to lure part of the puzzle piece of the ghost on the moon back to Earth, causing it to go out of control here. Foreign countries were forced to seek help from headquarters. Professor Wang's solution was to use that ship to orbit the moon, sealing the ghost on the moon, weakening foreign forces while sabotaging Project Ark."

Suddenly, Liu San thought of something and asked, "A ghost ship?"

“Yes, Zhang Jun has seen that ship before. He classified it as an X-level paranormal event, impossible to observe, impossible to contact, and even impossible to get close to. If it weren't for Professor Wang's plan, which forced the King Organization to confine the ship to the vicinity of the moon, we would be facing that ship right now.”

At this moment, Liu San glanced at Yang Jian and said, "Perhaps we can use that ghost lake to sink the ghost ship."

Li Jun shook his head directly.

"It's impossible. Professor Wang initially thought the same way, but something happened that made him change his plans: a ghost emerged from the ghost ship, a ghost that seemed to have developed self-awareness."

"A self-aware ghost?" Wang Chaling asked in confusion. He had never heard of such a being before. Even the two terrifying old men behind him were just vengeful ghosts manipulated by curses.

His grandparents were essentially ghosts who followed their own killing patterns and vengeful instincts. Once the curse was lifted, the first person these two ghosts would kill was Wang Chaling.

“That’s right. The ghost’s behavior is approaching that of a human. The initial assessment of the ghost’s terror level is S. This is enough to show that there are multiple vengeful ghosts inside the ghost ship. Ghost Lake alone may not be able to completely suppress it, and there may even be unpredictable situations.”

The ghost of self-awareness
Yang Jian thought of the anomaly he encountered in his ghost dream, the one with his father's memories—a failed supernatural creation.

If a ghost possesses self-awareness, it can no longer be called a ghost. There is no risk of resurrection, and it can use supernatural items without restriction. If such a being actively resolves supernatural events, it alone can end the entire supernatural era.

But if it were the other way around, he could destroy the entire modern society in an instant if he wanted to.
Yang Jian, watching the increasingly intense flames surrounding the rocket wreckage, interrupted Li Jun:

"We don't have much time left. Where is Zhang Jun's body? If we continue to stay here, we'll be surrounded and killed by the King's Organization sooner or later."

Li Jun pointed to the sky above everyone's heads and said, "The moon..."

"Moon?!"

"That's right, the King's organization wants to use his body and coffin nails to contain the pieces of the fire, thereby freeing the ghost ship."

"How do we get up there? We're not going to have to take this rocket, are we?"

Li Jun looked at the head of the rocket wreckage, where strange black flames were burning.

"This ball of fire is a piece of the puzzle for that ghost. Perhaps by utilizing a deeper level of the ghost realm, we could counter-invade, but I can't."

After speaking, Li Jun looked at Yang Jian, and among everyone present, only Yang Jian's Ghost Domain had this ability.
