Mysterious Resurrection: What If

Chapter 73 First Battle

Chapter 73 First Battle (Part 8)

"something wrong"

A voice arose along with the piano music. The owner of this voice seemed not to exist in reality, but was merely speaking through the piano music.

The pale-faced twin dolls stared at Wang Chaling's corpse on the ground, their mouths not moving, yet simultaneously uttering eerie sounds:
"That's too easy, it can't be that easy..."

Just then, on the canvas of human skin in front of the painter, the captains' corpses suddenly faded, and a waxy yellow began to appear on the pale skin. The painter suddenly realized something and immediately shouted to the crowd:

"Watch out! There's something strange about the corpse!"

But before the painter could finish speaking...

Suddenly, the butcher stopped abruptly.

Suddenly, Yang Jian's head in his hand turned into sheets of yellow paper that quickly peeled off and then swiftly covered the butcher's body along his arm. Almost instantly, the bloated body was wrapped in a dense layer of yellow paper.

"Boom!" There was a muffled sound.

The butcher's enormous body fell straight to the ground, turning into a paper figure from which he could not escape.

"Damn it, we've been tricked! When exactly did this happen...?"

"Retreat, take the butcher back, he's not dead yet."

The scene shifts to the other side of the fire.

"arrive."

Li Jun stopped in his tracks.

The crowd stopped and looked into the distance.

A massive rocket was embedded diagonally in the scorched earth, like an upside-down tombstone.

The rocket's outer shell was completely destroyed, with large sections of alloy plates twisted and deformed by the high temperature. The original white outer shell of the spacecraft had long since peeled off, revealing the charred skeleton inside.

At the rocket's nose cone, a patch of deathly blackness burned wildly, emitting a chilling stench of decay, and a gruesome face could be vaguely seen emerging from within.

The face had dry, peeling skin and sunken eye sockets, resembling a long-dead corpse.
"Rocket?"

Looking at the massive wreckage before him, Liu San's stiff face showed a hint of disbelief.

Li Jun nodded and walked to the center of the ruins, where there was a well-preserved structure.

It was a black, round sphere that could hold about ten people. Li Jun pried open the hatch and led everyone inside.

As if sensing the captains' confusion, Li Jun said, "The rocket used in the foreign lunar landing program back then, this is the safety capsule, which is strong enough to withstand the high temperatures of re-entry into the atmosphere."

Liu San asked in confusion, "The moon landing program?"

Everyone present knew about this event; it caused quite a stir back then, and even now, many people still have doubts about the moon landing.

Li Jun nodded and said, "That's right. When paranormal events first appeared, many methods were sought abroad to try to contain the evil spirits. The moon landing program was one of them. Some research teams abroad believed that since the ghosts could not be killed, they should be banished to space, far away from humans." The group stood inside the sphere. The structure inside was very intact and had not been damaged by the fall. Some facilities were even still usable.

Li Jun seemed to know the equipment inside very well and began to search through it. As he searched, he said, "But people at that time did not fully understand the characteristics of vengeful ghosts, which led to the ghost going out of control. The rocket did not come back. It seems that the Reform Society was quite reliable. While they set off the fire outside, they also brought back the rocket's wreckage."

After searching for a while, Li Jun found a heavy alloy safe in the corner. Green flames immediately covered it, and through the ghost domain, Li Jun took out a small black box from it.

"At that time, it was a time of war, and even some ghost tamers were involved in the war. This vengeful ghost was left unattended and remained out of control on the moon. However, this ghost was special; it did not actively return to Earth to attack humans, so its killing patterns remained unknown."

Shen Lin looked at the black box in Li Jun's hand, which seemed to be an object for recording and storing information, and said, "This approach is too dangerous."

"If all the imprisoned vengeful spirits were banished to outer space, without supervision, no one knows what kind of reactions would occur between them, and it might eventually give birth to a ghost far beyond our comprehension."

“That’s right.” Li Jun nodded. “Professor Wang thinks so too.”

"Including this moon landing program, a total of three evil spirits have been banished to outer space from abroad."

Three?

Li Jun walked to the control panel, seemingly turning on the power. He continued, "After the lunar landing program, foreign countries sent two more probes into outer space. One of them is about to leave the solar system. All we know is that it contains an eye."

"Eyes?" Yang Jian asked subconsciously.

"Yes, an eyeball of unknown terror level, but with an extremely brutal killing pattern. As long as it is seen, no matter how far away it is, the eyeball will immediately appear in front of the person who saw it and kill them."

Li Jun pressed a button, and the lights in the safety cabin immediately turned on. He never expected that after so many years, the energy system here could still generate electricity.

Walking towards an old, large CRT monitor in the center, Li Jun squatted down and tried to turn on this antique.

"After the first probe flew out of the solar system, it sent back its last message: the eyeball was gone, vanished into thin air. But none of the people involved in the project died. Foreign countries had always suspected that the eyeball was observed by a hostile country and then returned to Earth. As the war intensified, no one had the energy to investigate the matter anymore, and it was eventually left unresolved."

Liu San then asked, "You just said there were three exile plans in total, so what about the last one?"

The large computer screen in front of Li Jun gradually lit up; he had actually started up this old relic.

He continued, "The ghost that was banished in the third plan was very special. At that time, people's understanding of ghosts was still in its early stages, which resulted in only a part of the puzzle being sent into space, while the other part remained locked up within the island nation."

Yang Jian and the others listened quietly. This information was not even recorded in the headquarters, or rather, the captains did not have the authority to view it. This was a history that was completely different from what they had ever known before, and could even be described as bizarre.

Li Jun connected something that looked like a media player to the large computer and then put the black box inside.

"During a war, someone on the island nation deliberately triggered the ghost's killing pattern, causing the part of the ghost puzzle from outer space to return to Earth. In the instant the puzzle pieces were completed, the ghost went out of control, resulting in the deaths of at least approximately 200,000 people on the island nation..."

The large display screen lit up with snowflake-shaped noise, indicating that it should still be working. Seeing this, Li Jun stopped talking and stared at the gradually clearing image on the screen with everyone else.

A voice filled with a sense of nostalgia came through.

"That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind."
