Mysterious Resurrection: What If

Chapter 39 The Buddhist Kingdom in a Dream

Chapter 39 The Buddhist Kingdom in a Dream (Part 8)

Xiaoyuan glanced back at the female corpse, aimed at its head, and forcefully threw the dagger in her hand.

"Pfft!"

The female corpse was stabbed by Xiaoyuan's dagger and sent flying backward, falling into the turbulent lake.

Yang Jian grabbed Xiao Yuan and continued rushing forward along the increasingly slippery path, with corpses raining down on both sides and gradually crashing onto the road.

A series of muffled thuds came from behind the two of them. Even with just a glimpse out of the corner of his eye, Yang Jian could see countless female corpses floating on the surface of the river, as if they had been forcibly pulled up from the bottom of the river.

"Cousin, let go a little."

Xiaoyuan pulled her hand away from Yang Jian's grasp, then pulled out a small knife from somewhere and began slashing wildly at a female corpse that had approached them.

Yang Jian looked at his little cousin in front of him, who was slashing and laughing at the same time. She was incredibly fierce, unlike him, who was only suppressed in front of Ghost Lake.

Xiaoyuan appeared to be slashing randomly, but in reality, every strike accurately hit the female corpse's heart, neck, and chest. These movements were exceptionally precise, as if they had been honed through countless trials.

Xiaoyuan suddenly turned to Yang Jian and said:

"Cousin, run faster! I've never seen these corpses before, and there are just too many of them."

Yang Jian quickened his pace, but Xiao Yuan's words made him realize a problem:
All the anomalies that have occurred in this nightmare so far have been related to me, whether it's the attack by the ghost rope or the current ghost lake.

This dream seemed to be able to read other people's life experiences, making all the things Yang Jian had experienced appear in this nightmare.

This reminded Yang Jian of another supernatural item he possessed.

That old newspaper stained with blood.

That newspaper can alter other people's memories. If we add this vengeful ghost that can pull people into dreams, could it modify a person's memories without them even realizing it?

Perhaps, his cousin's unusual behavior was one of his father's experiments with the supernatural.
Before I knew it, the road beneath my feet had become muddy, and running on it even splashed water.

The path seemed to be narrowing, not because the path itself had changed, but because the water on both sides was rising! It was slowly pressing down on the two of them.

The female corpse standing on the lake was getting closer and closer to the two of them. At this rate, it would soon completely submerge them.

Just then, Xiaoyuan fumbled in her clothes and pulled out a pistol.

Yang Jian was stunned as he watched from the side. His cousin was actually able to get his hands on guns. You have to know that the current gun control measures are very strict, and ordinary people don't even have a way to get information.

The gun appears to be streamlined and made of some kind of transparent glass. Yang Jian is not very knowledgeable about firearms, but judging from its appearance, it should be one of the kind of homemade guns that are popular among the common people.

Xiaoyuan raised her hand and pulled the trigger on the nearest female corpse.

"boom!"

A loud gunshot rang out, and a female corpse was sent flying backward, smashing into a large group of other bodies.

But this was just a drop in the ocean; more female corpses were surrounding the two.

Yang Jian discovered that these female corpses did not possess the supernatural power of the real Ghost Lake; they were merely superficially similar.

Yang Jian looked at Xiao Yuan: "There are too many. Xiao Yuan, do you have any more knives? Get one for me too."

"Here." Xiaoyuan took out two more sharp knives from her bag, kept one for herself, and handed the other to Yang Jian.

Yang Jian felt a little embarrassed; just how much was this cousin carrying?

But since physical therapy was effective, a hint of excitement flashed in Yang Jian's eyes. He now had the emotions of a normal person.

When it comes to fighting, he has never lost.

With Yang Jian's arrival, the female corpses on the left and right sides were unable to get close to the two for a while, and a safe hollow area was briefly formed around them.

Although the brother and sister worked together fiercely, this nightmare world seemed determined to kill them, as corpses began to fall from the sky and hurtle towards them. Yang Jian dodged a female corpse that was hurtling towards them.

"Is this ghost so desperate that it has to resort to underhanded tactics?"

The number of corpses falling was increasing rapidly; if it was a light drizzle before, it was now a downpour.

The entire sky was filled with corpses; before one even fell, the next one would drag it down with it and smash it to the ground.

"Click..."

Amidst the chaos, the sound of shattering glass came from beneath his feet. Yang Jian was startled and looked down.

The path had somehow transformed into a gigantic mirror, but strangely, the entire surface only reflected the figures of Yang Jian and Xiao Yuan.

"Mirror?"

Yang Jian suddenly thought of Miao Xiaoshan's cousin, who had been trapped inside a mirror by a vengeful ghost related to mirrors. His guess was indeed correct; all the unusual manifestations in this dream world were related to his own experience.

As the two ran, the cracks became denser and denser, rapidly expanding like a spider web, seemingly about to shatter completely at any moment.

"Xiaoyuan! Hold on tight to me!"

Yang Jian only had time to shout one sentence.

"Crack!"

With a crisp sound, the mirror beneath their feet immediately collapsed and shattered. Before Yang Jian and the other person could react, a sudden feeling of weightlessness overwhelmed them, and they plummeted into the ground.

The wind howled past their ears. Yang Jian and his companion were falling rapidly, but after nearly ten seconds of freefall, Yang Jian still couldn't see the end.

If they keep falling like this, they'll both be killed instantly!
Suddenly, a blinding white light flashed, and Yang Jian was surprised to find that the two of them had fallen into an unusually empty space with indistinct boundaries.

Mirrors were everywhere.

Countless enormous mirrors were connected to each other, forming the walls of this space. Each mirror reflected a pale white light, making Yang Jian dizzy.

"This is?"

In mid-air, Yang Jian turned his head with difficulty, and his whole body froze.

At the very center of this play of light and shadow sits a Buddha statue so enormous that words cannot describe it.

The Buddha statue was enormous, blotting out the sky. Even after falling for so long, the two of them hadn't surpassed the statue's head.

The Buddha statue appears to be made of dark yellow stone, but under the white light, it has a lifeless sheen, making it look more like the skin of a corpse, which is extremely eerie.

From Yang Jian's perspective, the Buddha's face was clearly not obscured, yet it was completely blurred.

Through the blurry perspective, Yang Jian could only sense that the Buddha statue had a half-smile, a kind face and a wide-open, angry gaze.

Three completely different expressions appeared in Yang Jian's eyes at the same time. A strong sense of incongruity and dizziness came from his vision. This strange visual illusion made Yang Jian feel nauseous.

"Buddha statue?"

A question flashed through Yang Jian's mind; he had never experienced any supernatural events related to Buddha statues before.

Could my memory have been altered by that newspaper? Like that time at home when I called out to the newspaper ghost dad...
Just as Yang Jian was pondering.

Ouch! That hurts!

Xiaoyuan and Yangjian plopped down on the bench. Xiaoyuan immediately jumped up, rubbing her bottom as she hopped around.
