Hogwarts: A Chinese-Style Professor
Chapter 12 The Provocation of the 6th Grader
Chapter 12 The Sixth Grader's Provocation
By the afternoon, things seemed to have changed slightly.
When Li Wei walked into the classroom, the second-grade students were already eager to try, their excitement visible to the naked eye.
It seems they have already learned about the morning's lessons from the older students and guessed what will happen next.
In stark contrast to them were the Slytherin snakes, who were clearly still completely unaware of the situation.
Li Wei has no intention of making any changes to any of this.
The opening was the usual one, followed by a flurry of parchment.
When Ron Weasley saw the same title above, he couldn't help but laugh out loud.
He could already imagine how ugly Malfoy's face would look when all the Gryffindors gained points and all the Slytherins lost points.
Harry Potter met his gaze, and the two exchanged a knowing smile—it seemed they were on the same page.
Hermione Granger glanced at the two men, somewhat speechless at their pathetic behavior—she had left immediately at lunchtime when she heard that the Weasley twins were going to reveal the questions to them.
The new Defense Against the Dark Arts professor seemed very reliable. If I were to cheat on the questions he had painstakingly prepared, it would not only be a waste of his efforts, but also make him feel ashamed.
"They're all very simple questions."
Hermione muttered to herself, quickly finished writing down the three questions, looked up, and found Harry and Ron gripping their wands tightly, staring intently at the parchment in front of them, as if some monster was hidden inside.
Hermione then glanced furtively at the professor on the podium—he was leaning against a bench (where did that bench come from, was it from his Transfiguration?), staring blankly at the ceiling.
Seemingly noticing Hermione's gaze, he turned his head and met her probing eyes directly.
!!!
Hermione quickly looked away, her heart racing instinctively.
The new professor was far too beautiful. For a moment, she couldn't tell whether she was amazed by his appearance or frightened by his behavior.
"Okay, time's up."
Li Wei clapped his hands, and everything remained the same.
Although the second-grade lion cubs had foreseen that the parchment would transform into elves, the outcome was not significantly different.
Understanding something is one thing, but actually facing it is quite another.
Ron was too nervous when using the Freeze Charm, so he mispronounced the incantation and his staff-wielding posture was incorrect.
Not only did he fail to freeze the elf in front of him, but he also caused Harry to be affected by the aftershocks—risking frostbite, Harry gripped his wand tightly and struggled with the elf, desperately trying to prevent it from taking it away.
Despite knowing what was going to happen, Navi Longbottom cried out in panic upon seeing the little elf before him, showing no intention of retaliating whatsoever.
As it turns out, even with mental preparation, these people still couldn't handle the simplest little sprites without the knowledge and wisdom required.
"Are Hogwarts students left with no other options besides showing their worst side or going all out? Do they have no other choice but to go all out?"
Li Wei watched the farce unfolding before him expressionlessly—a minute later, Hermione, having recovered, finally rallied and used the Freezing Charm to help all the lion cubs out of trouble.
As for Slytherin, it was an even bigger disaster.
When did an academy known for its shrewdness and ambition fall into such a state?
Li Wei expressionlessly dispelled the Transfiguration spell, added five points to Gryffindor's score, selected Hermione as the class representative, and continued teaching.
Friday.
As the last class ended, Li Wei let out a sigh unconsciously after leaving the classroom.
The situation at Hogwarts was worse than he had imagined. After wasting an entire year, the third-year students had almost forgotten most of what they had learned in their first year, and along with the first and second-year students, they had become blank slates.
The fourth-grade students performed quite well, and it was also the most suitable grade for Li Wei to verify his conjecture.
They possess a certain theoretical foundation and practical skills, and at the same time, they don't have to worry about the OWL exam in the fifth grade, which is the most liberating time for them.
With just a period of training, one can barely meet the requirements for Livy to conduct experiments.
As for the fifth grade, there's not much to say; Li Wei is already prepared to overwhelm them with endless practice problems.
The year ahead will likely be the most challenging for this grade.
As for sixth grade, the curriculum has changed, and students need to take courses in subjects that correspond to their future career goals.
It's worth mentioning that to attend an advanced class in a particular subject, one generally needs to achieve an E or higher grade in the OWL exams. Snape even required students to achieve an O in Potions to be eligible to continue studying with him.
Because there was no handover, the school defaulted to setting the requirement for advanced study of Defense Against the Dark Arts at E. Eight students from the four colleges met the standard. Li Wei had seen their files, and seven of them were from pure-blood families.
For these students, rather than starting teaching immediately, we need to spend some time first determining their direction.
"The eight of you have a pretty good foundation. If you start working hard this year, depending on your efforts, it won't be difficult for you to get an E or O in NEWT next year."
"Come on, Professor."
A young man with light blue hair waved his hand.
"Who doesn't know that Hogwarts changes its Defense Against the Dark Arts professor every year? Even if we study under you this year, won't we just get a different professor next year?"
"Besides, we don't trust you yet."
Severus scrutinized the professor before him.
"Professor Levi, forgive my bluntness, but you are clearly from Slytherin, yet none of our fathers remember you."
During your time at school, you didn't leave behind any achievements worth preserving, and you don't seem to have made any name for yourself in the magical world.
Although you achieved eight Os in the OWL exam, you did not take the seventh-grade NEWT exam.
"what do you want to say?"
“We’ve wasted a whole year on Professor Quirrell. His teaching is completely useless, yet he doesn’t allow us to use class time to learn other things on our own, as if that would be a hindrance. If you’re like Professor Quirrell, I hope you’ll at least not waste our time.”
"Perhaps...would you mind showing us your strength?"
Li Wei didn't rush to respond to him, but looked at the others instead, "Is that what you all think too?"
Everyone nodded, but one witch standing behind the crowd remained silent, her hands clenched tightly together.
Li Wei shook his head and said calmly:
"With your foundation, even if you study on your own, many of you should be able to get around an E grade through NEWT next year, and I would be happy to reduce my teaching workload."
Unfortunately, this way I can't explain it to Professor McGonagall, and to avoid her worrying that my teaching quality might be compromised—”
Li Wei drew his wand from his waist and slowly pointed it at the crowd.
"Alright, I'll give you three minutes. All eight of you can attack me together, without any restrictions on spells or methods."
"I can only defend, not counter-attack. If any of you can cast a spell that works on me, you can spend your sixth-grade classes on your own from now on."
