Chapter 59 Fainting

Chapter 59 Fainting

Tokyo grew darker, and the wind carried a chilly, damp smell.

Streetlights illuminated both sides of the road, but their warm glow did nothing to lessen the chill.

Fine rain fell from the sky without stopping from afternoon until evening. The nighttime weather forecast issued a warning, indicating that the rain was expected to intensify over two days due to the typhoon, and people were advised to bring an umbrella when going out.

In fact, umbrellas of various colors were already floating on the sidewalk, like mushrooms soaking in water. Occasionally, a transparent umbrella would appear, and you could clearly see the dripping water gathering and sliding down the transparent film.

Those are floating jellyfish.

A young girl walked out of Shinkansen Shinkansen Station in Tokyo. She walked very slowly, stepping up the stairs and holding onto the railing.

She swayed unsteadily, but she kept walking.

The wind blew her thin coat, brushing the hair from her forehead and revealing her slightly pale face. Her cascading hair suddenly danced in the air as she walked up from the subway station exit.

Kitagawa Ayane felt a chill that penetrated to her very core, yet she clung tightly to her schoolbag.

This action wasn't to block the wind, but rather a subconscious reaction.

There was nothing of value in her schoolbag, except for one thing: the clothes that Kaoru Murayama had lent her—the little suit she wore when giving her speech at the economic discussion meeting.

Regardless of the price, Kitagawa Ayane was very grateful for her good friend's help. However, if someone borrowed her clothes and returned them to her with a ruined design, Kitagawa Ayane felt she would die of shame.

She's always like this, accepting other people's kindness but then betraying it; it's simply unforgivable.

She thought with a touch of sadness.

Perhaps due to hesitation, the message was still not sent, but every moment, Beichuan-senpai thought to herself that she had let Lin Ze down.

So no matter how fine the rain was, she always made sure to protect the things her friend had lent her.

That's all we can do.

Kitagawa Ayane stood at the exit, facing the rainy Tokyo night.

She originally thought she wouldn't make it back. After a short rest on the train, the good news was that she had been unconscious for a while and when she woke up again, she was in much better condition. Her symptoms had only worsened slightly.

Apart from her whole body trembling evenly, losing her hearing and ability to speak, and walking unsteadily, she felt perfectly normal.

The journey takes only half an hour; there's no need to take a taxi anymore.

All she had to do was go back to her one-bedroom apartment, lie down on the bed, and then pass out without a care in the world. When she woke up, she should feel much better... She wasn't afraid of the symptoms when she had an attack, because she had endured them countless times before meeting Lin Ze.

They even went so far as to tie themselves up with ropes to prevent their behavior from spiraling out of control.

What Kitagawa Ayane truly fears is falling ill on the street and being taken to the hospital. Not only would she have to pay unnecessary medical bills, but she is also most afraid that the news will spread to the University of Tokyo and ruin her life.

We are not afraid to go further.

She comforted herself.

Even if the rain gets colder, it doesn't matter.

All the difficult things in the world can be overcome simply by getting through them.

Even if the whole of Tokyo is shaking in a hallucination, the world is spinning, buildings are collapsing, and the lights on the towering skyscrapers are blurry in your eyes, you just need to take this step slowly and then take the next step carefully.

She hugged her schoolbag tighter again.

Why not check the numbers to see exactly how many steps it takes to reach the community? At least you'll feel like you're making progress.

"1..."

Kitagawa Ayane silently recited the words in her mind as she walked out onto the arched platform that led downwards.

A lone figure appeared in the rain; she didn't even have an umbrella.

The slanting rain stung her face, pattering against her cheeks like annoying mosquitoes, seeping into her black hair and clinging to her already thin clothes.

Her bangs were blown up by the wind, and she reached out to shield her eyes from the rain, squinting as the hem of her shirt swayed in the breeze.

The rain was much colder than she had imagined.

"2..."

A small leather shoe stepped into a wet puddle, reflecting the girl's figure. In the fading light and shadow, she swayed twice, but managed to steady herself. She thought of the warmth of her cramped one-bedroom apartment, of the soft blankets. No matter how cold it was outside, she knew it would be so comfortable to be wrapped up in them.

Kitagawa Ayane made up her mind not to even peek out when it came time to breathe, and to wrap herself up tightly, since she wouldn't suffocate.

"3..."

She quickened her pace, as she was about to reach the streetlight.

"4..."

Kitagawa Ayane quickly reached out and grabbed the lamppost. Her knuckles, which were tightly clutching her schoolbag, were already blue with cold. At that moment, she felt that she wasn't sick enough.

If only I could lose all feeling, at least I wouldn't feel cold.

Time goes so slowly.

She had only taken a few steps, but it felt like an eternity. She wondered how many more steps she would have to take to get home.

"5..."

She removed her hand from the lamppost and wiped the raindrops from her face.

In just a few short seconds, my hair already felt a little wet, and my damp clothes kept absorbing the heat from my body.

Was leaving Tokyo worth it?
How wonderful it would be if I were a normal person, without having to worry about the onset of illness every day. Only after losing health do we realize its value.

It turns out that everything Lin Ze said was correct.

She suddenly felt very regretful.

In her mind, Lin Ze's face became clear. He spoke kindly and earnestly, telling her that the greatest honesty is honesty with oneself.

"6..."

Take another step.

Kitagawa Ayane swayed slightly a few more times, then her vision went black, and she fell forward uncontrollably.

She didn't notice the steps under her feet.

boom--

She landed on her shoulder on the wet ground.

A flash of lightning streaked through the layers of rain, illuminating the dimly lit city of Tokyo as if it were daytime. Even the ripples from raindrops falling into puddles were clearly visible, but the girl's figure remained a blur.

Because she lay down at the bottom of the steps, the few people passing by, holding umbrellas, did not notice her.

Rain fell heavily from the sky.

Kitagawa Ayane completely fainted.

She was as lonely as a stray dog.

……

About a minute.

suddenly.

Approaching footsteps approached, and a black umbrella moved through the rain. He quickly walked past the streetlights and arrived at the steps, where he clearly saw Kitagawa Ayane lying on the ground.

The rain suddenly stopped.

A black umbrella appeared in front of her.

Lin Ze crouched down.

"Luckily, I guessed the right station." He muttered to himself as he put down his umbrella, covered her with his coat, put one hand under Kitagawa Ayane's knees, and hugged her body with the other, applying just a little pressure.

The senior student was picked up and carried.
