What should I do if the hero is resurrected in the Monster Girl Encyclopedia?
Chapter 25 Temporary Alliance
Chapter 25 Temporary Alliance
The scene shifts back to midday, in the hotel room shortly after Mirad and Siolitta left.
“Krinshid, isn’t this a bit inappropriate… I promised Mr. Mirad I would stay in this room…”
Eugene, with a bitter expression, knelt on the ground with his buttocks sticking out so that Klinsid behind him could study the magic that bound his legs.
"You are a hero, yet you know you've been used, and the city is shrouded in gloom. Can you really stay here?"
An incredibly complex binding spell… no, perhaps not binding, but something far more profound, more like immobilization…? Supporting herself to decipher the magic in Eugene's hands, Klinshid felt increasingly ashamed of her own ignorance. Magic could be expressed like this? The structure was too perfect; she couldn't insert even a single character. Everything operated efficiently and flawlessly… this thing didn't even need an energy supply; it absorbed magic from the air on its own!
Eugene was speechless; he naturally wanted to leave the room to catch the real culprit.
"I can't stay here any longer... While handing over the responsibilities to Mr. Mirand brings a sense of liberation, I still can't help but feel the urge to atone for my sins..."
"Cowardly and incompetent, how pathetic... What's even more pathetic is that the person I've set my sights on is someone as cowardly and incompetent as you."
With a short, sharp crack, the magic binding them dissipated. The two heroes looked up simultaneously, and the remnants of the dissipated magic above their heads formed an adorable portrait of Hyolitta, with lines highlighting her message, accompanied by a light effect resembling fireworks.
"Congratulations on revealing your feelings! No one will notice this room!"
After stretching her muscles, Klinshid lowered her head and silently chanted a disguise spell. Their faces certainly couldn't be shown on the street now, so the only way to avoid attracting attention was to disguise themselves.
“K, Klinshid… what you just said meant…”
Seemingly just realizing what was happening, Eugene scratched his slightly flushed face.
Without looking up, Klinsid's earlobes, visible through her hair, were already mostly red. "Shut up, pretend I didn't say anything."
"Oh, okay, okay..."
Next, all he had to do was open the door and regain his freedom... Eugene grasped the doorknob, but found that no matter how hard he tried, he couldn't budge it.
"Krinshid, take a look at this door, what's going on..."
Eugene looked at his female companion, who was staring in disbelief at the magical message above her head, her face gradually flushing. He followed her gaze and saw that the message within the frame had changed:
"Next, this is a room specially prepared for you two by Hiolitta, a room you can't leave without expressing your love! Please enjoy it!"
"I told you I fell for you first, you idiot! Why do you think I resigned from the academy and took the time to train with you? Isn't it because you're such a coward who doesn't dare to confess and you're worried that you're not good enough to catch my eye?" Klinshid loudly proclaimed her claim.
“But, but I was smitten the first time I saw you!” Eugene followed up, his speech becoming much faster.
"You...!" Speechless with shock, the female warrior Klinshid simply turned her head away.
Carrying the pickled herring and rye bread he'd bought at the market on his way back, Mirand pushed open the door and raised an eyebrow. He hadn't expected to see such a scene.
The two confined heroes argued childishly, as if they were having a contest to see who could shout the loudest. Above them, a scoreboard made of magic, bearing the image of Siolitta, was rapidly changing numbers.
"Oh~ the score is now 97 to 95, Mr. Eugene has a slight edge. Overcoming his mental barrier with his direct approach really does counter his tsundere attitude~"
The real Hyolitta emerged from behind Mirad, looking with satisfaction at the two heroes bickering so intently that they were oblivious to the world around them, not even noticing Mirad and Hyolitta opening the door.
"explain?"
"We were worried you two might get bored here, so we prepared a little game~ One heartfelt love confession counts as one point, and if you add up to 100 points, you can leave here. But you two seem to be so engrossed that you've forgotten about that."
...It's really a twisted sense of humor, but it can't be considered a bad thing to tell each other what you feel for one another.
Mirad coughed lightly a few times, drawing the attention of the two heroes above back to him.
“There’s food here. If you’re tired of arguing, why don’t you sit down and fill your stomachs?” Klinshead glared at Eugene, then abandoned all ladylike manners and began to chew the bread. Eugene breathed a sigh of relief and took out a dagger to slice the bread into thin slices.
"Want to leave here?" Mirad poured them some ale to keep them from choking. "I still think that for your safety, staying here is the best option."
"That idiot would say that standing by and watching is not the style of a hero."
“Hmm. Thinking about it carefully, although it’s easy, I still can’t stand the feeling of being powerless to do anything. I want to help you, Mr. Mirad.”
"The guilt I feel will be less. That's true for both him and me."
"Elcia is also the city where we grew up... We were so blinded by greed that we almost tarnished its glory..."
The two heroes echoed each other's reasons, seemingly in perfect harmony.
"It's alright. It is a bit slower to investigate by one person."
Thus says the Lord God: O warrior whom I have chosen, walk before me with a good and holy heart. I fill you with loving-kindness, perfecting your character so that you may accomplish great things for me. For you are a vessel specially chosen by me, and you will surely receive my grace and power.
While the gods may have slightly different criteria when choosing their heroes, a good character is a generally accepted standard.
Given that his stance is reliable, Mirad trusts heroes blessed by the gods more than monsters. These two are somewhat reckless, but their overall strength is not bad.
"You are heroes under the command of the Supreme God, and you should be quite familiar with the local church of the Supreme God. I entrust the matter of the secret order to you to investigate."
"In other words! It's time to split up and investigate on our own! Let's have Detective Hyorita step in! Remember to meet here every night to exchange clues!"
Hiolitta suddenly clapped his hands, startling Eugene and Klinshead.
Entrusting him with such a great task was partly a sign of trust in his identity as a hero, and partly a test for the younger generation. As for whether they would report the existence of Lilim, the hyolita, to the church after being released… Mirad had always been indifferent.
If Hiolitta, whom even I cannot defeat, really wanted to cause trouble, even if all the effective fighting forces of the entire Kingdom of Vesegrand were combined, they would not be able to harm her. The fact that this daughter of the Demon King has not yet turned Vesegrand into a demon realm is probably a small concession made by a "fan" who does not want to disappoint her "idol".
If Lilim's identity could increase the Church's attention and prompt them to request more aid from the Holy Land and summon a dozen heroes, that would be ideal. It would also be good to give a warning to any potential traitors within the Church; at least it would prevent them from taking any drastic actions in the near future, maintaining stability until the Agricultural Fair ends.
“The church? Okay. Let’s start with the information channels and see who handled my and Eugene’s private messages… That should help us deduce the real writer… If he really exists,” Klinsde wiped the bread crumbs from her lips, “Since the mastermind chose me and Eugene, they must have been interested in more than just our impulsiveness and gullibility… I’ll find out.”
"Should we still maintain the disguise?" Eugene asked. "Did Lord Mirad notice anything unusual about the church on his way back? The sudden disappearance of two heroes..."
"No, everything is normal. They must have chosen to suppress the news of your disappearance."
“Let him remain missing. A different identity will make investigating easier.” Klinsid wiped her face. Illusionary magic could confuse others, and she'd also gleaned a little something from the sparse, house-repelling magic she'd dabbled in…
She changed her appearance to that of an ordinary passerby, someone you'd forget in less than five seconds, and she did it so well that even Mirad would want to applaud.
Siolitta smiled and reminded her, "Not bad disguise, but your aura is still too aggressive, Miss Klinshid~ It will only attract attention."
"Tsk, then let's tone it down a bit."
"To be able to thwart the conspiracy and avert the crisis alongside Mr. Mirad... I will definitely not let you down!"
