Chapter 536, Section 534: The Clever Crookshanks
“You were looking for me, Mr. Barrow.”
Sheen said politely.
“It’s me. Mr. Green…”
Barrow's voice was hoarse, and according to the ghosts, it never returned to normal.
“You brought her relief, and my sins have been lessened because of you.”
Barrow's deep voice was soft, mingling with the breeze from the tallest tower.
"And... what about you?"
Sheen asked.
His voice was very soft; if the breeze were any stronger, it probably wouldn't be audible.
“My affairs are none of your concern, sir. I summoned you to ascertain whether you can truly release the ghost.”
Barrow walked over step by step.
As he got closer, Sheen could feel the bone-chilling cold.
"For those who have faith, death is the gateway to eternal life."
Sheen murmured a sentence, a quote from the old headmaster Iphamoni that had been written in the book.
This sentence seems to possess a unique magic; it's like part of a long incantation, capable of mobilizing wondrous magical power.
"Ravenclaw deserves a good ending; her mistakes are not unforgivable."
Barrow seemed to breathe a long sigh of relief.
“I knew this when that person asked me to find her. Ravenclaw never hated Ravenclaw…”
"And what about you, sir?"
Sheen repeated it again.
"Ravenclaw hates Barrow—this blood is the best proof—"
Barrow gave a miserable laugh, then let out a nervous "hoho" laugh.
Sheen stared at him, and he slumped violently into the floor. Before disappearing completely, Sheen heard his indistinct voice:
"A person as sinful as me doesn't deserve to be freed..."
Barrow's words made Sheen frown slightly.
But he couldn't forgive Barrow on behalf of Ms. Helena.
However... just as he could not forgive on behalf of Ms. Helena, he also did not know whether Ms. Helena still hated Barrow.
The fog is thick tonight; perhaps Sheen will have a chance to figure this out.
……
From the afternoon onwards, Defense Against the Dark Arts seemed to become the most popular course, with only Draco Malfoy and his Slytherin cronies still badmouthing Professor Lupin.
“Look at what his box looks like now,”
As Professor Lupin passed by, Malfoy deliberately spoke in a way that others could hear.
Apart from them, no one cared that Professor Lupin's box was tattered and badly worn.
But soon their conversation changed, and the wizards began to discuss which was more interesting, the Magical Creatures Protection class or the Defense Against the Dark Arts class.
"I think it's Defense Against the Dark Arts class. I heard we're going to learn about Red Hat and Kabah in the next class—"
Sheehan heard Michael talking about rumors he'd heard from somewhere.
"We can get up close to them—"
The red hat was an ugly little thing, like a goblin.
Lurking in places where blood has been shed, such as the dungeons of castles or the tunnels of abandoned battlefields, waiting to attack lost people with big clubs;
Kaba, on the other hand, is a reptile that lives in water.
They look just like scaly monkeys with webbed hands, ready to strangle any unsuspecting person wading through their ponds.
"But we have to survive Potions class first."
Michael said with a hint of fear.
Professor Snape's mood had become particularly bad since the afternoon class, and everyone knew the reason for it.
The news that Boggart had transformed into Snape's likeness and Neville had dressed him in his grandmother's clothes spread like wildfire throughout the school.
Professor Snape didn't find this amusing at all. Especially since one of the young black-haired wizards almost witnessed it.
So whenever he heard someone mention Professor Lupin's name, his eyes would glare fiercely, and he seemed ready to pick a fight with Professor Lupin right after the afternoon Potions class.
On the way to the Potions classroom, the atmosphere was just as somber as when they had their first Potions class.
Professor Snape began the lesson with the most unpleasant expression they could see.
So much so that when the wizards saw the teaching assistant wizards next to the podium, it was like seeing a lifeline.
And it turned out just as they expected.
With the help of the black-haired teaching assistant, they got through the potions class without any major incidents.
Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff only had 25 points deducted.
“Mr. Green, it’s so good to have you here…”
As they left the classroom, a Hufflepuff said gratefully to Sheehan.
"I really don't know how to thank you, otherwise I think I would have been fired for stirring the crucible with my right hand instead of my left..."
His Hufflepuff companion also thanked him shyly.
In fact, Sheehan believed that Professor Snape was not as terrible as they imagined.
But at the same time, he could understand that the professor was not in a very good mood today.
He figured any male wizard wouldn't be in a good mood if they saw him wearing his grandmother's long dress.
"Professor Snape actually..."
Sheehan tried to say something, but the Hufflepuffs shuddered and ran away.
Sheehan saw Professor Snape give him a cold stare before heading toward Professor Lupin's office.
He stared for a few seconds, then walked toward the auditorium.
There is another important matter awaiting him today.
That was after dinner, when he was greeted with his second master-level magic branch.
Tonight's dinner consists of bacon, beef stew, chicken, ham, prawns, and salmon, served with steamed sponge cake and fresh mushrooms.
As Sheen looked at the panel, where he was only 300 points away from proficiency, he noticed Crookshanks lightly jumping onto Hermione's lap, a large dead spider in his mouth.
"Does it really have to eat that stuff in front of us?"
Ron asked, frowning.
"Clever Crookshank, did you catch this yourself?"
Hermione ignored Ron, picked up Crookshanks, and asked gently.
Crookshan slowly chewed the spider and ate it, his yellow eyes staring arrogantly at Ron.
"Just leave it there and don't move it."
Ron said angrily, plunging the knife deep into the mushroom and staring intently at Crook Hill.
"Banban is sleeping in my backpack."
Crookshank remained staring intently at Ron, the tip of his fluffy tail swaying gently.
Then, it leaped, startling Ron.
In reality, she followed Sheen after he left the table.
"Ok?"
When Sheen realized that Crookshan had followed him, he seemed to have a sudden realization.
"You need my help?"
Sheen watched as Crookshank jumped onto his shoulder.
"Does helping a special person drive away a dangerous person from among us?"
Sheen smiled.
Crookshank is a clever cat.
