Chapter 82 Dumped
Chapter 82 Dumped
Valerie's "death" greatly influenced Cillian's subsequent actions.
I thought the City Guard could follow Valerie's lead and uproot the evil forces lurking in Hel City.
It now appears that Cillian's enemies are not only hiding in the alleys, but also within the city guard bureau.
Cillian rushed back to the city guard, his hand still on the hilt of his sword, ready to draw it at any moment.
"hope……"
Some of the employees who were somewhat familiar with him were about to greet Cillian when his cold and intimidating gaze silenced them.
Cillian glanced at the enthusiastic employee, a series of thoughts flashing through his mind.
"An ordinary person, nearly forty years old, with a harmonious family, no bad habits, no obvious abnormal behavior, and whose department's functions are unrelated to the incident..."
Cillian brushed past the employee, who then slowly turned around after a long while to look at the now-disappeared Cillian.
The employee instinctively touched his throat... and it hadn't been bitten off by the fangs.
Soon, everyone else noticed Cillian's unusual behavior.
In the eyes of many employees, Cillian has a very good reputation. He is dedicated and reliable, and has a bit of a sense of humor, although most of the time, the employees don't quite understand his sentences.
This was the first time the staff had seen Cillian like this since he joined the company; they were burning with anger, like a bomb about to explode.
"Are you... are you alright, Cillian?"
Mefuni mustered her courage and moved closer to Cillian.
Since the Valerie incident, the two have become much closer.
Most importantly, Cillian has absolutely no sympathy for Maefuni, doesn't care about her background at all, and often teases and mocks her about it, making Maefuni stomp her feet in anger.
"nothing."
Cillian quickly broke into a smile, saying nonchalantly, "I just got tricked by someone."
"Huh?" Mefuni asked curiously, "Can you tell me about it?"
"Um……"
Cillian thought for a moment and then explained.
"It's like this: I invited a girl to my house to visit her parents. We agreed to meet tonight, but she canceled at the last minute and disappeared. More importantly, I don't even know where she lives."
Cillian was not good at lying, but that did not stop him from using strange "metaphors" to embellish the course of the story.
"Huh? Did you get dumped?"
Only a naive girl like Meifuni would believe such a metaphor.
"Ahhhh!"
Mefuni grabbed Cillian's arm and almost pounced on him.
She was so enthusiastic and curious, as if Cirion were some rare species that had gone extinct long before the Dayless Cataclysm.
It is indeed very rare.
Cillian hadn't been with the company for very long, but in that short time, he had made a deep impression on everyone.
Putting aside Cillian's almost frenzied slaughter during the Night of the Tides, his unwavering devotion to Valerie's beauty alone is enough to glimpse a corner of his eccentric personality.
"I really, really admire Cillian."
One employee lamented, "At the age when I'm full of passion, when I meet such a glamorous woman, my first thought is to check if she's a follower of Chaos."
“Cillian really loves this job.”
"This has nothing to do with profession. Even if Cillian held a different position, he would still do the same. Rather, it's more like..."
"Cillian is so righteous!"
So when Mefuni realized that Cillian was in some kind of emotional crisis, a huge surprise came her way.
"Hmph, after all, you're not that much older than me, so you still have emotions and desires."
Mafoni thought to herself, anticipating what Cillian would say next.
"I got dumped?"
After considering it for a moment, Cillian said, "It's more like I pursued someone unsuccessfully. When I asked for their contact information, I used very crude methods, so it's normal for them to resist me."
"Ah? What did you say!"
Meifuni doubted she had heard correctly.
Cillian ignored Mefuni and nodded to himself, "But it's okay. I already found out their approximate address beforehand, so we can check them one by one."
"No... Cillian...you..."
Mefuni pointed at Cillian and began to speak incoherently, shaking his arm vigorously as she tried to persuade him.
"That's a crime! You can't do that when you're pursuing a girl!"
Seeing that Maefuni had been teased like this, Cillian burst into laughter.
"Be rational!"
Mafoni just thought Cillian's laughter sounded very villainous.
Only after Cillian repeatedly assured her that he would not do anything out of line did Maefuni shakily return to her workstation.
Cillian doesn't have a girlfriend.
Cillian had only a group of enemies awaiting trial. On the day of Valerie's interrogation, in the few minutes Daelin gave him, Cillian not only obtained from Valerie the locations where the Claws would be gathering, but also learned information about Tania.
Considering various factors, Cillian once intended to share this intelligence with the City Guard Bureau, but now it seems that this was not a wise move.
Cillian suppressed his smile and glanced at the city guard out of the corner of his eye.
Perhaps the enemy who killed Valerie is hiding among them.
"Hello, everyone."
A slightly tired voice sounded as Elton walked over.
Meghanie greeted him warmly, "Oh, Elton, it's been days! What have you been up to?"
"Me? I was taken to do... well, a classified project."
Elton gave a dry reply.
He was even less adept at lying than Cillian, but unfortunately, the other person was Maefoni.
Maeve always had immense trust in her friends, just as she did with Valerie.
Cillian had criticized Mefuni for this more than once, but while he spoke harshly, he was secretly pleased to be trusted by such an innocent girl.
"Keep it a secret? Okay."
Meifuni shrank back to her seat and started crunching away at her cookies like a hamster.
After a period of calm, Meifuni's condition improved significantly, as if those terrible memories had completely disappeared from her mind.
Cillian turned his attention to Elton.
That night, Cillian saved Elton's life as the Reverse Falcon. His disappearance during this period was probably due to his confession of what happened to the City Guard and the subsequent investigation.
Elton is an ordinary person; he would really die if he were to be tainted by Chaos.
Cillian chimed in, "Looks like this classified project isn't going to be easy, Elton."
"Indeed...it's not easy at all."
Elton spoke haltingly.
Cillian squinted, like a fox taking a nap.
Elton is a man who can be read at a glance; his personality, tone of voice, mannerisms, and so on are as stereotypical and clear as a case study in a textbook.
Cillian guessed that Elton must have had a tragic childhood... It wasn't hard to guess that, in this crazy era, only a few people have a happy life like Mae Fonnie.
Under this premise, people often tend to go to two extremes: either extremely aggressive or as introverted as a herbivore.
Elton is clearly the latter.
Recalling his fervor for Yanxun technology, his infrequent attendance at parties hosted by Maefuni, and so on, a clear image of him came to mind for Cillian.
A lonely young man who is only focused on studying technology, slightly withdrawn, insecure, and lacking in love.
Just like many people today.
Cillian invited, "Elton, you look stressed. Want to grab a drink after get off work?"
"Me? I think I'll pass. I'm starting to have a phobia of alcohol."
Elton still feels lingering fear about what happened that night.
“Alright then,” Cillian said meaningfully, “It’s good that you’re alright. After all that has happened, it’s really not easy to see familiar colleagues again.”
Elton, sensing something, replied, "Thank you, Cillian."
Cillian shifted in his chair, asking curiously, "You've never really liked me. Did I do something wrong?"
Such a blunt attack left Elton speechless for a moment.
"You...you didn't do anything wrong."
Elton sighed and muttered, “I’m just tired of making new friends, Cillian.”
Cillian looked at him expectantly.
Perhaps it was that brush with death that night, or Lila's reply, that made Elton unusually open up about a corner of his heart.
“It’s always the same: meeting new friends, going from strangers to acquaintances, and then witnessing their bodies lying in the morgue. This process is not pleasant; it only makes one feel tormented and painful.”
Elton recalled the faces he had seen.
"Therefore, I started to hate meeting new people, especially those from the City Guard. I hated Mae Fonnie's parties even more, even though I understood that Mae Fonnie just wanted to create some happy memories while everyone was still alive."
But I still loathe it all.
Elton glanced at Mafoni, who was still eating a cookie, and then said.
“Meifuni once told me that even if everything is the same, so what? It’s like rereading a book; every time you read it, you have a new experience.”
He shook his head dismissively. "No, I didn't have any new experiences, just the same sadness that kept repeating itself, over and over again."
Cillian was taken aback by Elton's response and remained stunned for a while before speaking.
"You got along well with the previous batch of interns, didn't you?"
“It’s not just the last batch,” Elton added, “there was the batch before that, and all the colleagues who died in the line of duty.”
