Doomsday America

Chapter 47 There's someone in the lake!
As soon as he finished speaking, Gavin glanced at Eugene.
Well, this guy is practically laughing his head off. I bet Eugene's vision of the apocalypse is completely different from the environment Gavin provided.
As for the possibility of zombie cows mentioned by Gavin, Eugene didn't seem to take it to heart.
Seeing that Eugene was a bit carefree, Gavin didn't say anything more, after all, he knew his own farm's conditions well.
The farm environment is indeed fantastic, with a very high initial survival rate, but similar environments are countless in America.
Texas alone has at least 6666 Farm, which is an even larger survival haven than Gavin Farm.
What if Gavin dares to let his guard down after returning home?
Stop kidding, those kinds of people are the first to die in movies.
However, even while remaining vigilant, it's essential to maintain a balance between alertness and relaxation.
At least the damp, cold wind in front of me is quite nice!
Gavin continued to accelerate despite the cold wind, safely leaving the lakeside resort and arriving at the 2.6-kilometer-long cross-lake highway.
I glanced at my watch; it was 10:40 a.m.
Although the group was delayed a little, less than two hours had passed since old Albert called him.
Gavin pursed his dry lips and muttered something under his breath.
"Old Albert, I hope you can hold on until I get there."
"What did you say? The wind was too strong, I didn't hear you!"
Nearby, Eugene, braving the cold wind, roared at Gavin.
Upon hearing this, Gavin glanced at Eugene and shook his head.
"I'm telling you, you fucking idiot, just wait and see what happens!"
"Haha, I love beef, God bless Angus beef!"
Eugene responded excitedly, and at the same time, the RV behind suddenly accelerated and came to the right of the Tyrannosaurus Rex, running alongside it.
Then, Madison stuck out his big face and shouted at Gavin.
"Boss, it's past ten o'clock. Doris asked you what you want for lunch. Do you still want rice? She can make scrambled eggs with tomatoes!"
"No problem, just scrambled eggs with tomatoes. Tell her to save me a separate serving of scrambled eggs with tomatoes without any extra sugar, and also give me some leftover stew from this morning!"
After receiving a response from Gavin, the RV slowly backed up, leaving Winnie leaning against the window and making a face at Gavin.
Although Madison and his group were unaware that they had arrived at Gavin's house, it was clear that the people in the RV were already feeling a sense of security and ease from the quiet surroundings.
This is the case in the United States, where most of the population of a state is concentrated around the state capital and major cities.
And this is Texas, the Lone Star State, the second largest economy and population state in the United States, a top state that dares to challenge the White House for independence!
Even so, once you leave the Dallas metropolitan area, the environment becomes so bad that you could film a road movie with a deadly curve at any moment.
Every year, countless people go missing in the United States, and most of them disappear on small streets far from major cities, like the one in front of us.
For example, in the vast land effectively controlled by the Gavin family, there isn't even a police station; the nearest one is in Richard County, 26 kilometers west of the reservoir.
It is easy to imagine how scarce police resources are in rural areas of America.
And how tough and domineering are the farm owners in the many farms in rural Texas?
With many thoughts in mind, the Tyrannosaurus Rex crossed the lake-crossing bridge and arrived at the very top of the V-shaped structure.
As they approached, Gavin turned right and pointed to the open space at the end of the T-junction.
"That's the airport the state government gave me. It's a domestic airport, but there aren't many passengers."
"So, quarterback, where are we going? How far are we from your farm?"
Eugene rubbed his face in anguish and interrupted Gavin, saying this in frustration.
"God, I've had enough! This is the first time I've prayed to you so fervently. Please throw this ostentatious devil into hell!"
"You have a highway at home, a river and a lake at home, and even an airport at home. I really want to blow you up, Gavin!"
"Haha~"
Gavin chuckled twice, matching Eugene's exaggerated performance, then pointed south along the road and said, "Alright, enough of the jokes. Our journey is almost over. Albert's lakeside cottage is about two kilometers ahead."
"I developed the part of the land near Chambers Reservoir that is surrounded by the lake into a resort to tax exemption."
"The land surrounding the lake was used by my father to build welfare villas for retired employees, which were then placed in locations they preferred."
Two kilometers is a short distance, which can be covered in just a few words.
As Gavin spoke, he gradually slowed down and turned the car onto a small road in the forest.
As they continued along the path, Eugene spat out the window and muttered curses at Gavin.
"Fuck, so the distance between me and your detached villa with a yard is that I'm trying to become an employee of your family, right?"
"How could it be so simple? Take Albert for example. His grandfather served my great-grandfather, and they even fought together in the Civil War. That's a friendship that has lasted for so many years."
Gavin interrupted Eugene, explained something to him, and parked the car in front of the villa.
Before us stands a three-story villa built right next to the lake, with a third of the villa even situated on the lake itself.
There was nothing particularly special about the villa's yard; the paths were filled with unkempt lawns.
You can tell that Albert has really aged. When he was young, Gavin would never have seen such a messy lawn on his house.
In addition, the roads branching off from the courtyard connect to the garage, the stables, and a blacksmith's workshop where many scrap irons are placed and a furnace is also built.
Upon seeing the blacksmith's workshop, Gavin couldn't help but purse his lips.
My old blacksmith, please don't let anything happen to you.
After silently repeating it to himself, he spoke to Madison and William as they got out of the car.
"William, don't get involved with your leg. Go back to the car."
"Madison, bring the masks and gloves. Let's all get ourselves protected and then go in to check on Old Bert's condition."
"no problem."
Madison agreed and deftly retrieved the two items from the Tyrannosaurus Rex's cargo bed, handing them to Gavin and Eugene respectively.
While the two were putting on their masks, Madison, struggling to fasten the small mask onto her large face, asked Gavin a question.
"Boss, is William alright in the car by himself? Should we leave Eugene behind too?"
"unnecessary."
Gavin responded briefly.
"The nearest house is about 1.5 kilometers away from us. Even if the zombies there can find us, there will only be one or two of them."
“In the early stages of the apocalypse, the locations of zombies were generally quite clear, with most staying near their respective residences and not yet scattered throughout Texas due to the influence of animals and survivors.”
As soon as he finished speaking, Gavin put on gloves, drew his tactical knife, and headed towards the villa.
He didn't have the key to the villa, and he didn't expect old Bert to open the door for him, so he went straight to the two-meter-high wall and easily climbed over.
Madison and Eugene followed closely behind Gavin. Despite their different heights, their athleticism was remarkable, and they landed on the ground in unison.
Gavin walked toward the villa door, calling out in a measured tone.
"Old Bert, are you there? It's Gavin!"
"Cough cough cough..."
As soon as Gavin finished speaking, a faint cough was heard coming from inside the villa.
Gavin's face lit up with joy. The old blacksmith was still alive! That was wonderful!
Gavin excitedly took a few quick steps.
But just as he reached the front of the villa, he suddenly stopped!
"Cough cough... Gavin... you bastard... you must be playing a trick on me!"
Old Bert's voice drifted slowly from the villa, but Gavin remained motionless, gazing intently at the distant lake.
When Madison and his companion approached him with suspicious expressions, he pulled out his binoculars, looked around, and said with a slightly surprised look.
"Hey you two, look! There's a naked woman swimming in the lake!"
