Chapter 140: Agronomy Master's Departure and the Rescue

Chapter 140: Agronomy Master's Departure and the Rescue (10k)

Upon hearing the girl's words, the atmosphere in the hall immediately froze.

Then, almost simultaneously, everyone looked at Gavin, but the colors in their eyes were completely different!
Meeting everyone's gazes, Gavin took a deep breath and focused his attention on the girl.

She wore only a slightly dirty gray vest on top, exposing her arms, and black jeans with a simple striped or plaid belt.

There were no extra ornaments or pendants on the belt, and at least when looking at the girl from the front, Gavin could not see any traces of possible explosives.

As for whether the girl was carrying a bomb on her back?

Well, you can tell just by looking at the way she runs.

The way she was carrying something was quite obvious, and Gavin could tell that there was absolutely nothing on her back.

So even if what the girl said was a trap, at least the girl herself didn't seem dangerous.

So Gavin picked up the intercom and asked softly.

"Eugene, can you see the others?"

"Can't see it, boss. There's only this one car. The chick's running pretty sexy. If I save her brother, can she sleep with me? Hahahaha~"

Eugene laughed and hung up the walkie-talkie, while Gavin, as he put the walkie-talkie back in his waistband, pointed to the door in front of him and said.

"Let her in first."

"Ok."

Hearing Gavin's words, Steve shook his head excitedly. He then stepped forward and let the flustered woman in.

As soon as the woman entered the hall, she lunged at Gavin, shouting at him.

"Gavin! It really is you! My brother is a fan of yours. I've even watched one of your matches live with him!"

"God, please save my brother! He's trapped in Oldwood!"

As she spoke, the woman grabbed Gavin's arm in a flustered manner, looking at him with eager eyes.

Gavin, meanwhile, calmly pulled the woman to the sofa and helped her sit down.

"Martin, get this girl a bottle of Coke."

Gavin gave the order, and Martin turned and walked toward the bar.

As Martin left, the woman paused slightly, then quickly spoke to Gavin and the departing Martin.

"No, no, no, I don't need Coke. I'm not thirsty at all. God, I'm not in the mood for Coke right now!"

"Thank you, but I don't need it. My brother is still in Oldwood. If you're not willing to help me, I have to go back right away. I need to find him!"

At this point, the woman took a deep breath and then tried to sit up from the sofa.

Seeing this, Gavin raised his hand and placed it on the woman's shoulder, asking softly.

"How long did it take you to drive here from Oldwood?"

"Ok?"

Upon hearing Gavin's question, the woman paused for a moment, then quickly answered.

"I don't remember, what time is it?"

"It's 11:02 now, let's just call it 11:00. What time did you leave Oldwood?"

Gavin pressed on with another question, and the woman swallowed hard before answering him thoughtfully.

“Let me think. We initially hid in Schentvi County, where we stayed for three days. Then we heard your broadcast on our walkie-talkies, and my brother and I came here together.”

“We set off in the afternoon, taking Highway 75 and then Highway 831 to avoid other surrounding counties, and then we arrived in Altwood.”

"However, it was almost dark when we arrived in Altwood, so my brother took me to a wine bar near the roadside to stay."

"There were only two convenience stores and a car repair shop near that bar, and only five zombies in total. My brother and I took care of them with a studded baseball bat, and then we lived there."

"Let me think, we got there around seven o'clock, and we rested there for about half an hour when a zombie crept up to us along the road."

"It was too dark at night, and my brother and I didn't want to deal with the zombie. But soon after, the zombie inexplicably crashed into the bar's window, so my brother decided to kill it."

"As soon as my brother left the bar, the zombie saw him and immediately turned and ran away!"

"I swear I'm telling the truth, that zombie got away, he really got away!"

"what?"

Upon hearing this, Gavin paused for a moment, then instinctively frowned.

He pursed his lips thoughtfully, then placed his hand on the woman's shoulder, speaking soothingly as he spoke.

"Tell me about that zombie, go into details if you want!"

After he finished speaking, Gavin let out a breath and waited for the woman to continue her story.

The woman nodded hastily, then spoke to Gavin in a slightly disorganized tone.

"Believe me, I'm not lying. That zombie was wearing half a nightgown, which was torn, and he wasn't wearing anything on his lower body."

"We didn't turn on the lights, and I didn't pay much attention to anything else, except that the zombie had a slightly bald head!"

"Anyway, after my brother went out to kill him, the zombie started running the moment it saw my brother. It ran incredibly fast, and my brother couldn't catch up at all!"

“That wine bar is very close to Buffalo, just on the outskirts of the city, we didn’t dare to fire at all.”

"After my brother couldn't catch him, he went back to the bar. We didn't consider that zombie a threat at the time, since there was only one of them. We were so stupid!"

At this point, the woman covered her head in frustration.

She continued speaking to Gavin with a bewildered tone.

"After my brother came back, he asked me to think about it. We drank a bottle of red wine and then planned to rest. We...we rested until about 8:30."

"Then we were woken up by footsteps. I swear, there were at least seventy or eighty zombies, maybe more. They inexplicably surrounded us!"

“God, they didn’t even come from the city, because my brother and I both rested in windows facing the city, and we were worried that zombies would pour out of the city.”

"But those zombies weren't from the city at all. God knows where they came from. They surrounded us and then smashed through the bar's window."

"My brother led me to the back door, but it wouldn't open. We were so stupid, we didn't even check!"

"So my brother led me into the bar's restroom, and we crawled out through the ventilation duct!"

"My brother jumped out of the pipe first, but there were still zombies outside, and they chased after him!"

"My brother told me not to come out. He was yelling and shooting, which lured away the zombies, including those in the bar!"

“I saw him rush into the repair shop from a distance and then close the door. The zombies were banging on the door and even climbing onto the roof of the repair shop, trying to find a way in.”

“My brother was trapped there by them, but I was ignored by the zombies. I took advantage of the zombies’ inattention to go back to the car and talk to my brother on the walkie-talkie!”

"My brother told me to use the car horn to lure the zombies away, and I did, but only a few dozen zombies followed me. The rest of the zombies were still surrounding the repair shop!"

"I tried several times, but I couldn't attract any more zombies. My brother had no chance to get out!"

"So my brother told me to come to you guys first. If you can help me, I'll do anything. Gavin, I can even be your lover!"

"Ha ha……"

Hearing this, Gavin shook his head with amusement and patted the woman's shoulder as he spoke.

"You're dreaming, little girl. There's no such thing as a free lunch. I'm supposed to save your brother and give myself to you at the same time? Didn't Santa Claus scold you for asking for too much at Christmas?"

"I……?!"

The woman was taken aback by Gavin's words, then sighed helplessly and continued speaking to Gavin.

"I'm sorry, I spoke without thinking. Anyway, can you please help me? Please, I really do!"

"If you're not going to help, then can you at least give me a quick answer? I'm going back by myself!"

As soon as she finished speaking, the woman looked at Gavin with hopeful eyes, while Gavin glanced at his watch again.

“It’s 11:05 now. You left Oldwood around 9:00 and it took you about two hours to get here.”

"Since two hours have already passed, we won't be short of time for a cigarette or a short rest. Come on, have a drink, and let me plan how to save your brother."

Just as Gavin finished speaking, Martin walked back carrying two dozen iced Cokes.

After handing a bottle to the woman, Martin distributed one to everyone, and also gave the big raven a can.

While Gavin was pouring drinks into the can, he casually said something to Nikita.

"Nikita, I have a map in my room, could you please bring it to me?"

"Okay sir."

Nikita nodded and left, while Gavin, watching the giant raven drink his cola, continued speaking to the female survivor.

“Although I’ve never been to Oldwood, I know that we are at least 100 kilometers away from there. Especially now that it’s nighttime, we can’t drive too fast. It might take us an hour and a half just to get there.”

"I don't want to say anything discouraging, but I hope you can answer me: do you think your brother is still alive?"

"Of course he's still alive! He couldn't have died like that!"

Faced with Gavin's question, the survivor quickly retorted and then took a big gulp of cola.

As she let the cold cola go down her throat, the female survivor continued speaking.

"I understand you guys, damn it, if it were me, I wouldn't be willing to take such a big risk for a stranger!"

"But you're Gavin, God, I thought you'd bring me something different!"

"Hey!"

As the female survivor finished speaking, Steve couldn't help but interrupt her.

Steve frowned and said to her.

"Stop making sarcastic remarks and don't stir up any emotions. Boss Gavin has made his own decisions. You just need to listen. Besides, he has already sent someone to get the map!"

At this point, Steve turned around and silently looked at Gavin.

Gavin remained silent, meeting Steve's gaze.

Because he knew that now was not the time to make a decision.

Besides, not everyone is here yet, so Gavin picked up the walkie-talkie and said.

"Eugene, Old Feng, you two can come back now."

"Okay, boss!"

"Got it, boss."

After agreeing to each other's requests, the two returned home from the rooftop and arrived back in the living room with Nikita, who had brought the map.

Gavin took the map, spread it on the table, and stared intently at Oldwood on the map.

Aside from the fact that it's a bit far and it's dark nearby, the road to Oldwood isn't difficult to travel.

There are several side roads on the way from the manor to Oldwood that can avoid towns. If they don't get lost, they won't even encounter a single town and will be able to reach Oldwood by the highway.

Meanwhile, Gavin observed that the female survivor, carrying a can of cola, came to the table and looked at the map for a moment.

She then pointed to the repair shop on the east side of Oldwood and said.

"This is it! My brother is right there!"

"Okay, I know."

Gavin nodded in agreement, then looked at the group of field agents and said in a low voice without any emotion.

"This road seems safe, but the darkness limits our visibility and it takes a long time."

"Even if everything goes smoothly, we probably won't be back until at least 3 PM. And even if everything goes smoothly, we'll still have to face at least dozens of zombies, or even more!"

"Besides that, no one can guarantee that our target is still alive in the repair shop, and that's the key issue."

"Do not……"

Upon hearing Gavin's words, the female survivor murmured in despair, then took a deep breath and resolutely stood up.

She didn't say anything more, but her actions made it clear that she would definitely leave if Gavin didn't offer help.

Noticing the woman's movement, Gavin pursed his lips and then waved to her.

"friend."

He then spoke to the woman.

"Don't interrupt me while I'm making plans. Your emotions make you believe that your brother is still alive, but my logic tells me that every second of survival in that environment is dangerous, so even your answer is not worth considering!"

“But besides your brother, I’m also interested in other things, especially… that zombie you mentioned that can run away!”

"I've never seen a zombie escape before. He's someone I'm curious about, and I really want to figure out his logic. It might be bad news, but it's definitely very important!"

At that moment, Gavin gently tapped the table, sat on the sofa, and looked up at the crowd standing around him.

Meeting Gavin's gaze, Steve pursed his lips and spoke.

“I can go. I can ride alone, with enough ammunition. If his brother is still alive, then I can…”

"You're not Captain America, man. You're just a guy who gets stupid when he hits his head."

Before Steve could finish speaking, Gavin interrupted him.

After abruptly interrupting Steve, Gavin pressed his thumb against Oldwood on the map and continued speaking.

"Don't fucking listen to Steve's idiots, and throw away all that talk about individual heroism and lone-wolf behavior!"

"Time is of the essence, so let's be decisive and raise our hands if we support saving lives!"

At this point, Gavin looked up at everyone.

In his line of sight, Steve, Nikita, and Old Feng quickly raised their hands!

Seeing the three's actions, Eugene grinned and spoke.

"No way, there can't really be that many people who want to be heroes, just because some girl ran up to our faces and said a few words?"

"Stop messing around, it's the middle of the night, and Texas is completely without power. There isn't a single streetlight along the way. Who knows what we'll encounter!"

"Besides, the boss has already made it very clear that even if we rush over there, we can't guarantee that our target will still be alive. What if we come up empty-handed? Not only will we have wasted our time, but we'll also have taken a risk for nothing!"

"If anyone dies in this operation, who the hell can take that responsibility?"

"And you!"

As Eugene was speaking, he suddenly pointed at Steve, who continued to curse angrily.

"Stop fucking raising your hand, buddy. You're still injured. Are you sure your disorienting brain can deliver a bullet to a zombie's head in pitch black?"

"Get lost, you're not that capable!"

"Boss, we shouldn't have gotten involved in this mess; the risks are just too high!"

At this point, Eugene gave the female survivor a special glance.

He stared intently at the female survivor, emphasizing each word carefully.

"Seriously, the risk is just too high. I'm not even sure if when we get there we'll encounter living people who have been killed by zombies, or living people waiting to kill us too!"

He turned to Gavin and continued speaking without reservation.

"Boss, this isn't just a question of whether or not to save people, or even whether we can save them. It could also be a question of... whether there is anyone in need of rescue at all!"

"We're not sure about anything, and just because a girl who comes to our door says something casually, we're supposed to leave the camp and go out into the fucking dark for an adventure?"

“I know some people will think I’m heartless, but look, there are many more people here who support me. This road is too dangerous. Even if we’re going, we should at least wait until morning!”

"Anyway, she thinks that since her brother has made it this far, it doesn't matter if he makes it a little longer. There are only six hours until morning. I'll go on an adventure with you in six hours. Isn't that enough?"

As soon as he finished speaking, Eugene seemed a little irritated.

Seeing that Gavin did not give a reply, he naturally understood what Gavin meant, so he paced back and forth in the hall, feeling annoyed and irritated.

After taking a couple of steps, Eugene rushed up to the female survivor, pointed at her face, and said through gritted teeth!
"If I were you, I wouldn't let your brother, whose fate is unknown, become a reason for others to die. That could fucking kill people!"

"Yes, so I'm ready to go on my own. I don't blame you, I don't blame anyone. It's all damn fate!"

Faced with Eugene's hysterical curses, the female survivor remained calm. After answering Eugene, she quickly finished the last of her cola and then neatly tied her hair back up.

Watching the woman's actions, Adriana took a deep breath, then took two steps forward, knelt down on one knee in front of Gavin, and spoke.

"Boss, take me with you. I suddenly remembered that I was also one of those who were rescued."

"Although I managed to sort out the trouble on my own, I still remember the moment you came in front of me. This girl looks a lot like me, so consider it something I owe myself!"

As soon as she finished speaking, Adriana stood up and silently raised her right hand.

Gavin took one last drag of his cigarette, then stood up and calmly gave the order.

“Adriana, Feng, you two come with me. Let’s see the night of the apocalypse.”

"Eugene, take them and watch over the house. You..."

"Are you fucking crazy, quarterback? Have you been playing your hero game for too long?!"

Before Gavin could finish speaking, Eugene slammed his hands on the table and cursed at Gavin viciously!

"Guess if anyone in this house is hoping you fucking walk into the night, Quarterback!" "And guess again, how many people are worried you'll never come back!"

"Don't be stupid, OK? Stay home! OK? This isn't what a boss should be doing!"

"You're crazy, but I'm not. I'm fucking... shit, whatever, I'm crazy too, we're all fucking crazy!"

After continuing his tirade until this point, Eugene saw that Gavin's expression remained unchanged, so he angrily slapped his thigh!

Then, Eugene walked up to Gavin, grabbed Gavin's wrist, and said with a wicked smile.

"Let me take Martin and Adriana with me. The three of us can handle it. If we can't, then you probably can't either!"

As soon as he finished speaking, Eugene stared intently into Gavin's eyes, while Gavin took a deep breath, grabbed Eugene's wrist, and said...

"Eugene, do you know what that zombie she was talking about means?"

"If there really was a lone zombie who suddenly chose to run away when he saw his brother, then shortly afterward, a group of zombies who were not from the town would surround them."

"That means we absolutely cannot let our guard down even in the slightest when it comes to zombies, even those roaming the wild!"

"That further suggests that in addition to the garrison and howlers remaining in the city, as well as the ambushers scattered throughout the area, there are other types of zombies, and one type of zombie might even possess the ability to search for targets and report them to the horde!"

"If all of this is true, then I don't even need to consider the Great Migration. My first priority is to arrange a way out for us, and not just one, but one that is far away!"

"So no matter what, I have to see that zombie with my own eyes, the sooner the better!"

As soon as he finished speaking, Gavin released Eugene's wrist and patted Eugene on the shoulder instead.

"Keep an eye on the house, buddy. Unless something unexpected happens, don't open the door. Not even a tank can get in!"

"Heh, I hope this isn't the last thing we say. Boss, you're a madman, but I admire your madness, I genuinely admire it. Screw it."

Eugene muttered a curse in response, then nodded to Gavin, crossed his arms, and took two steps back.

Gavin then simply waved to Lao Feng and the others.

"Adriana, Lao Feng, pack your gear, grab your flashlights, we're leaving in five minutes."

"Received." Old Feng nodded.

“Okay.” Adriana smiled slightly.

Afterwards, the two of them left the hall and went back to their respective rooms to pack their equipment.

Gavin then turned to the silent female survivor and smiled.

"Do you need any equipment? You can pick one from my armory."

"I have a gun in my car. I'll go back to the car to get it in a bit."

The female survivor gave Gavin a deep look and couldn't help but swallow.

Then, she spoke to Gavin with great seriousness.

"I am Hela, Hela Schulz!"

"Gavin King!"

Gavin returned his name and then shook hands with Hela.

After letting go, Gavin clapped his hands again and laughed.

"Everyone, those who are supposed to stand guard, stand guard; those who are supposed to rest, rest. I will be back before midnight. Don't let me come back to find a mess, and don't let me catch anyone sleeping comfortably on the sentry post."

"I need to pack my gear too, don't wait for me here, guys."

After saying that, Gavin turned and walked towards the second floor. As he left, Nikita and Steve chased after him almost simultaneously.

However, after seeing Nikita also chasing after Gavin, Steve belatedly tilted his head, then smiled with narrowed eyes and stopped chasing.

Nikita followed Gavin closely, all the way to Gavin's room.

Seeing Nikita and the others still following behind him, Gavin smiled, pushed open the door, and gestured for them to enter.

Nikita pursed her lips and silently went into Gavin's room.

Seeing this scene, Eugene, who was smoking a cigar in the hall with displeasure, finally couldn't help but reveal a mocking smirk.

"Aha!"

He pointed to the closed door on the second floor and said.

"I finally have some good news. Our leader is about to end his short hiatus. That quarterback is really popular, and he does have a handsome face, doesn't he?"

After saying that, Eugene chuckled to himself twice, then turned to the female survivor and continued.

"Are you satisfied now, little girl? My boss only had five minutes left to pour his heart out to his lover because of your mess!"

"If I were you, I would at least extend this time to ten minutes, then they would have time to take off their clothes, ha..."

"sorry."

Before Eugene could finish laughing, Hela suddenly spoke to him, which made Eugene pause slightly.

Then, Eugene stopped laughing, and his face quickly became ferocious. He looked at Hela with a ferocious expression and said, word by word.

"You haven't wronged anyone, you damn bitch, the one who's wronged us is this shitty apocalypse!"

"But you'd better make sure that everything you say is true, and that my boss's trip was indeed worthwhile and meaningful!"

"Otherwise, hehe, even if you escape to the ends of the earth, I can still find you, then blow your head off with a single shot, and while I'm at it, cut off your genitals with a knife!"

"Eugene!"

Hearing this, Martin finally couldn't take it anymore. He quickly reached out and pulled Eugene behind him, saying...

"Don't fucking go crazy. The boss has already made his decision. He's a real man. Isn't that a good thing?"

"What a fucking good thing! Real men die the fastest, you piece of shit!"

Eugene replied with a curse!
Upon hearing this, Martin sighed helplessly and then patted Eugene on the shoulder.

"At least we know that if we also get separated outside, our boss, given his personality, will definitely come looking for us himself. That's really a good thing!"

"So even though I feel that the boss's choice is not quite in line with my style, I still choose to support him, and I sincerely admire and look forward to it."

“We have a great leader. He’s a bit crazy, a bit daring, a bit prone to overthinking, and a bit overly cautious, but he’s definitely the leader I can trust most in the apocalypse, buddy!”

After speaking, Martin sat back on his sofa, crossed his legs, smoked a cigarette, and looked up at the second floor with a dazed expression.

Meanwhile, in Feng Minglu's room in the second-floor bedroom area.

Seeing Lao Feng return, Xiao Cao made sure his son wasn't awake, and then whispered to Lao Feng.

"Honey, are you done with your work? You can finally go to sleep now, right?"

"Uh……"

Hearing his wife's words, Lao Feng finally showed a hesitant and regretful expression. He remained silent for a long time, not knowing how to explain to his wife.

But he no longer needed to explain, because as he fell silent, Xiao Cao, who had initially been nonchalant, began to tense up.

Looking at his wife, who had turned over and was staring at him, her breathing becoming rapid, Lao Feng took a deep breath and then gave Xiao Cao a fawning smile.

"Honey, you go to sleep first. I still have some work to do, so I might not be back until late, probably around midnight."

"But I think I can rest tomorrow. I'll ask the village chief if I can take you boating on Lake Richard."

"I've been thinking about it. Our son can be looked after by Sister Doris for a while. She's raised two children before, and she knows how to raise kids better than we do. There won't be any problem!"

"Then it'll just be the two of us, rowing a boat on the lake for a while. We've been doing so many things on this trip, it's time to really enjoy the scenery!"

At this point, Lao Feng came to the bedside, sat down next to his wife, and took her hand.

Xiao Cao sat up nervously and grabbed Lao Feng's hand, saying...

"What's going on, Feng Minglu? Why are you going out in the middle of the night?!"

"Oh my god, don't yell, it's okay. It's just a survivor. Her brother is trapped by zombies. Boss, Adriana, and I are going to check it out. We'll be back soon."

Old Feng casually put his arm around his wife's shoulder and said something, but after hearing his words, Xiao Cao's body trembled, and she immediately shook off Old Feng's hand, asking incredulously.

"What did you say? Going out to rescue people in the middle of the night? Couldn't we have waited until daytime? And why should he take you with him? You're just a security guard. Why should a security guard do the work of a special forces soldier? He's not paying special forces soldiers' wages!"

"Honey, don't say such hurtful things. The boss did the right thing, and I stepped forward voluntarily, not because he asked me to."

Old Feng quickly interrupted Xiao Cao, then simply let go of his angry wife, awkwardly left the bed, and said uneasily.

"Hey, I'm packing up my gear now. The boss only gave me five minutes, so you and your son get some rest. I'll make you both something delicious when I get back~"

After speaking, Lao Feng glanced at his silent wife, who was shrouded in a low atmosphere, and silently began to put on his protective gear.

While he was packing up his weapons, Xiao Cao sat there silently watching him without saying a word.

Only after he was completely dressed did he say one last thing to his wife.

"I'm leaving now, don't worry, I'll be back and we'll go fishing."

After saying that, Lao Feng turned and walked towards the door, but before he could even grasp the doorknob, the footsteps behind him made him stop involuntarily.

The next moment, Xiao Cao's body fell heavily onto his back, and Xiao Cao's hands went from under his armpits to his chest and hugged him tightly.

Xiao Cao didn't say anything, just held him tightly for a few seconds before letting go.

Old Feng, without turning his head, said the last thing.

"Alright, let's go. Talking too much is like planting a flag, and I don't want to be an old general on the stage!"

After saying that, Lao Feng opened the door and left the room.

As he walked out of the room, Nikita, with her cheeks flushed and lips slightly swollen, also came out of Gavin's room.

Upon seeing Nikita, Old Feng nodded in greeting, then headed towards the stairs on his own.

But then, he suddenly stopped, turned around sharply, and looked suspiciously at Nikita and the door behind her.

"What the hell?"

After confirming that it was Gavin's room, Old Feng was taken aback for a moment, then grinned and said to Nikita.

Congratulations, Nikita!

"No... no need!"

Nikita's face flushed red, and she forced a reply to Old Feng before jogging back to her room.

Meanwhile, in Gavin's room, Gavin was inspecting the firearms, licking his lips with amusement, and muttering to himself.

"A gift for kindness? Not bad. This little girl in the apocalypse seems to have become sweeter~"

As soon as he finished speaking, Gavin grinned, then slung the gun over his shoulder, pushed open the door, and walked out.

In the lobby, Eugene Martin and the others were still waiting. When they saw Gavin come downstairs, Eugene shouted to Gavin from a distance, laughing loudly.

"Boss, you're fucking fast! It hasn't even been five minutes, has it?"

"Ha ha……"

Hearing Eugene's joke, Gavin grinned, walked over to Eugene, patted him on the shoulder, and said.

"It won't be long in the boxing ring tomorrow night, just five minutes, so you can see how long five minutes really is."

"No, damn it, I know you guys didn't do anything. Nikita is obviously a shy girl, do you think I can't tell?"

Eugene hastily raised his hand and waved twice; he had no desire to go into the boxing ring with Gavin.

The gap between the two was simply too great; fighting Gavin wouldn't improve him at all. He would just get beaten up, experiencing only pain, but nothing of value.

Seeing Eugene back down, Gavin chuckled and shook his head, then raised his hand and said.

"Let's go, those at home, stand guard."

After saying that, Gavin strode away from the manor and drove the Kerberus Shield out of the garage.

Seeing Gavin's car parked at the door, Hela took a deep breath and spoke.

"Wait a moment, I'm going to get my gun."

"can."

Gavin nodded, then took out a cigarette, leaned against the car window, and exhaled smoke.

Hela then rummaged around in her car for a while, found her jacket and put it on, slung an S686 shotgun over her shoulder, and also strapped a Sig Sauer P226 to her thigh.

After getting everything sorted out, Hela climbed into the back of the shield and sat down next to Adriana.

Looking at Hela's equipment, Adriana shook her head dismissively and laughed.

"You should look for equipment in the boss's warehouse. Look at what you're carrying; it's really shabby."

"No need. As long as a gun can kill and save people, that's enough. Whether it's shabby or not is unimportant."

Hela responded, then looked at Gavin, who was leaning against the car window smoking.

Meeting Hela's gaze, Gavin threw his cigarette butt outside, opened the car door, stomped on it, then got back in, shifted gears, and started the Shield moving.

As he drove, Gavin spoke to Hela.

“Pay attention to the directions, and don’t fall asleep, Hela.”

"I know I won't fall asleep; nobody's more awake than me!"

Hela agreed, then couldn't help glancing at Adriana and Old Feng.

After glancing at them, Hela swallowed and then spoke to the two of them.

"Thank you for being willing to risk your lives with me. I really will repay you with my life. I'll do anything!"

"Hehe, don't thank us, you should thank the boss."

Old Feng leaned against the car window and idly replied to Hai La.

Upon hearing this, Hela nodded heavily and spoke to Gavin.

“Yes, I’m really grateful to you, Gavin. You’re a good person, and I’m honored that my brother has an idol like you. So, is there anything I can do to repay you? I’ll do anything!”

After saying that, Hela looked at Gavin with great gratitude, while Gavin chuckled without turning his head and then said to Hela.

Are you sure you can do anything?

"Of course, I never lie!"

Hela nodded with unwavering resolve.

Upon hearing this, Gavin chuckled mischievously and then spoke.

"Then go and solve Goldbach's Conjecture. The camp is currently in dire need of top scholars."

"I just... Ah? What? Goldbach..."

As soon as Gavin finished speaking, Hela instinctively agreed, but after she did, she was completely dumbfounded.

She rolled her eyes in confusion, then shook her head helplessly and gave Gavin a wry smile.

"You've stumped me, Gavin. My brother and I have good grades, but we really can't solve Goldbach's Conjecture!"

"Really? Good grades?"

Hearing Hela's words, Adriana shook her head dismissively.

She always looked down on children who did well in school; she always thought those children were just bookworms.

So she disdainfully continued to ask Hela.

"What's the use of good grades if we still have to face this damn apocalypse? But you say you have good grades, are you still in school? How old are you this year?"

"I am 23 years old and I am studying at the University of Texas at Austin. I am majoring in education and plan to take the postgraduate entrance examination."

Hela spoke to Adriana.

"As for my brother, he already has a master's degree and was previously pursuing a doctorate. Oh, right, he's in the agricultural science department, he..."

"Master of Science in Agronomy???"

Before Hela could finish speaking, Gavin, in the driver's seat, suddenly turned his head and looked at Hela in surprise.

Hela was startled by Gavin and quickly nodded in response.

"No...that's right, a master's degree in agronomy. I think he can definitely become a doctor. It's a bit difficult for me, though. A doctorate in education requires a lot of connections, and our family's connections in the education field are a bit lacking. But what can I do? I like that field."

"Fake!"

Hearing Hela's words, Gavin couldn't help but mutter a curse under his breath.

Then, Gavin looked back at the dark road ahead and continued speaking to Hela.

"If you encounter a situation like this again, you'd better tell me your major first!"

“I don’t like hypocrisy, Hela. If you had told me earlier that your brother was a fucking agronomy master’s degree holder, I wouldn’t have needed to consider anything else. I would have brought your brother back no matter what!”

"Look at the stupid things you've done! You almost caused me to lose a potential PhD in agronomy!"

"You need to understand that the world has already ended, so you shouldn't emphasize your experiences to us and expect us to stand up for you out of compassion!"

"You should emphasize your value, your value!!!"
