Chapter 73 Dividing Cigars
Chapter 73 Dividing Cigars (Seeking monthly votes and recommendations)
"Larry, it's nice to meet you here. What are you looking at?"
Suddenly, a familiar voice reached Larry's ears. He turned around and saw that the person greeting him was Logan.
He was still wearing that light red alpaca wool coat, a smile on his lips. He glanced at Larry, then looked curiously in the direction Larry had been looking earlier.
"Huh? Isn't that Marco's uncle?" Logan squinted as he saw Mr. K in the shop window.
"No, you actually know him?" Larry was extremely surprised.
Logan turned to look at Larry, plopped down opposite him, and then smiled, pointing to his red hair. “I lived in the immigrant community north of North Harbor until I was ten, until my dad made it big and we left. I’ve known Marco’s family since I was a kid. His uncle is a nice guy, just has a really bad temper.”
Larry waved for the coffee shop waiter to bring another breakfast, and Logan didn't stand on ceremony. He picked up the coffee, blew on it, and then, finding it a bit too hot, held it back in his arms.
Larry asked curiously, "What brings you here this morning? Didn't you go to work?"
Logan smiled. "As I told you last time, I'm going to England with Mr. Hemings. The tickets are already bought for next Friday. Mr. Hemings has been busy compiling inventory figures for various shops lately, so he asked me to handle some securities matters at Paine Webber Securities. I'm going to see Mr. Porter in a bit."
“That’s unfortunate, Mr. Porter isn’t here! He went to headquarters in New York.” Larry shrugged.
“Really? Oh, that’s great!” Logan’s face lit up with joy, and he slapped the table with a laugh. “Mr. Hemings gave me this task before he left, but if Porter isn’t here now, I won’t have anything to do this week.”
"Paid leave?" Larry laughed too.
“Yes, yes, hahaha, that’s great! It might even extend into next week, since Mr. Hemings is supposedly not returning to Boston until next Thursday,” Logan added with a laugh.
The two chatted for a few more minutes. Larry, preoccupied with something, turned to look at Mr. K outside the shop window, who had his hands in his pockets, and said in a low voice, "...He's also waiting for Mr. Potter."
Logan turned to look out the window, then asked as if he understood, "You recognize him too?"
"see once."
Logan nodded. "He's been having a tough time lately, constantly on the run. He offended the Moore gang at the docks, and lost his house. Luckily, he and Marco's father were smart; they got out early, and their family is safe..."
Larry's pupils dilated in shock, and he frowned as he asked, "How do you even know this? Is the Moore Gang a gang of yours, Irish people?"
Logan gave Larry that "you know nothing" look he hadn't given him in a long time, and then smiled and told a joke that Larry didn't understand.
"If he had offended the Irish, his house would be painted over... No, the Moore gang is a Sicilian gang. And it's not some deep-seated feud between them, it's just that Marco's uncle lost a shipment and owed the gang $1200."
Larry nodded, recalling how Mr. K had begged the security guards at Colt before, probably for something similar.
However, Larry turned to Logan and asked with a frown and a smile, "How do you know everything?"
Logan waved his hand, a serious look on his face. "Larry, you're a genius at trading. But you're still young, and you don't have access to many things. I think that's a good thing. Just focus on your work."
Larry nodded, pondered for a moment, and then suddenly said to Logan, "I want to help him out. What's his character like? Is he worth helping?"
Logan looked surprised and pondered for a few seconds. "His character is impeccable. If you help him, he'll remember you for the rest of his life. But how can you help him? That's $1200! Besides, why would you help him?"
"Because there will be many things I won't be able to do in the future, I need a ruthless person to help me!" Larry gave a slightly cold smile.
.
Mr. K, with his hands in his coat pockets, leaned against the exterior wall of the Paine Weber Securities Company, licked his dry lips, felt the cold wind seeping in through the gaps in his old coat, shrank his neck, and closed his eyes.
Although the wind is cold, standing here and basking in the sunshine is enough.
Suddenly, he could feel someone approaching. Mr. K's hand, hidden inside his trench coat, instantly gripped his pistol, and he hurriedly opened his eyes to look at the uninvited guest in front of him.
But instead of the familiar yet frightening faces of the Moore gang members, standing before him was a smiling blond boy.
“Um…you are…” Mr. K couldn’t immediately recall who this familiar-looking person was, but then he saw someone he knew well, the red-haired Logan Stone.
Both of them stood there and smiled at him.
Mr. K was taken aback, but then he remembered that the blond boy was someone introduced by Mr. Potter, who had once bought a gun from him. "I'm Larry, we've done business together before, remember?"
Mr. K nodded. "I remember now, that thing still works, right?"
Larry smiled and shook his head, "I haven't used it yet, so I don't know if it's any good or not..."
Mr. K nodded again, "It's right that you haven't used it; it wouldn't be right if you had."
At this moment, Logan nodded to Mr. K, indicating, "This isn't the place to talk, Mr. De Niro. Let's find somewhere to chat."
Mr. K's face showed a wary look. "Forget it! Although I'm having some difficulties, I don't want to get involved in the Irish stuff. I want to live for another two years."
Logan chuckled. "It's not me, it's Larry. He has something to tell you."
Mr. K turned to look at Larry, pondered for a few seconds, and said, "Just say it here. I'm waiting for Mr. Potter."
“Mr. Porter has gone to New York; you won’t be able to wait for him.” Larry thought for a moment and said, “We know you’ve been in trouble lately, and I have a way to help you. But after it’s done, you’ll have to come and help me too. Want to make a deal?”
Mr. K frowned first, then straightened up from the wall, carefully examined the trinkets, and said in a hoarse voice,
"You know about my situation? Can you really help me?"
Larry nodded but didn't say anything more.
But Logan said from the side, "Everyone knows about your affairs, so don't worry about saving face."
Mr. K ignored what Logan said and just looked Larry in the eyes.
The two stared at each other for more than ten seconds, then Mr. K suddenly said, "No need, I'll handle it myself."
Larry laughed, unsurprised by Mr. K's reaction. He stretched out his arm and pointed towards the Old North Church. "My friend and I will wait for you there for 10 minutes. You can choose your own way."
As he spoke, Larry put his arm around Logan's shoulder and walked toward the old North Church.
Logan walked with Larry and looked back at Mr. K.
Mr. K watched as the two walked to the back wall of the old North Church and disappeared into the shadows.
Larry pulled two aluminum tubes for holding cigars from his pocket, took out the cigars, and handed one to Logan.
Logan's expression froze, his eyes widened, and he quickly took the cigar, grinning, "Good stuff, Mr. Livingston. Is this for me?"
Larry smiled at him, took out a cigar cutter, and with a snip, cut off the end of Logan's cigar, and then cut off his own.
The two lit cigars and took a puff each.
Logan took a deep drag, letting the cigar smoke fully soak into his mouth, before exhaling heavily, a smile on his face as he sighed.
"This is fucking awesome!" Then, as if remembering something, he suddenly stood up, stood facing the back wall of the old North Church, made the sign of the cross on his chest, and was obviously asking God for forgiveness for his swearing.
Larry smiled at his retreating figure, thinking to himself that people who have gods in their hearts are really reassuring.
Just then, a hoarse voice came from behind them, "...Gentlemen, may I have one too?"
Logan looked back in surprise and saw that Mr. K had already walked up behind the two of them with his hands in his pockets.
Larry, however, remained calm, pulled another cigar from his pocket, and then turned around.
