Chapter 225 Easy things
Chapter 225 Easy things
A few short bursts of gunfire echoed from the depths of the corridor, followed by silence.
Zhou Yi stood close to the wall, his gun barrel protruding along the wall, always locked onto the corner in front of him.
The sound of footsteps came from far to near.
A few seconds later, Colin appeared first, followed closely by Bard.
"The second floor is clear," he reported in a low voice.
Zhou Yi nodded in response, without saying anything more, only raising his arm to make a gesture.
The three silently switched formations and advanced in sequence.
With the soles of my boots touching the concrete stairs, I quickly reached the top floor.
A lone iron gate stood at the end, its surface slightly charred.
Colin crouched down and quickly inspected the gap.
"With a reverse-insertion lock and internal bracing, there's a high probability of a crossbar."
Based on his judgment, Bud took out C2 explosives from his backpack, tore off the adhesive backing, and stuck it to the junction of the lock seat and the hinge.
"Soft detonation," Zhou Yi whispered the instruction.
Upon hearing this, Colin took a modified piece of nonel wire from his side bag and handed it over.
Bard quickly embedded it with explosives, the wire running close to the ground, with the end connected to an electronic detonator.
He gently flipped down the safety cover, his gaze meeting Zhou Yi's to confirm.
Zhou Yi raised his hand, and the three of them retreated to a blind spot at the same time.
Count down three, two, one.
Bang!
With a muffled thud, the hinge snapped instantly, and the door panel dented slightly inward.
Colin was the first to enter the room, his cheek resting on the butt of his gun, and he quickly scanned every blind spot.
“Clear.”
Zhou Yi followed closely behind and entered.
The space here is small; it's a small meeting room that was temporarily converted into a data processing point.
Three men knelt against the wall, their hands covering their heads, their faces deathly pale, as if they were about to faint at any moment.
As the gunman approached, one of them screamed in terror:
"Don't shoot! We are not combatants! We are American citizens!"
Immediately afterwards, as if afraid that the masked man wouldn't understand, he shouted twice more in French and Swahili.
Zhou Yi listened expressionlessly, then drew his pistol from his waist.
Then, amidst their terrified expressions, they pulled the spool to chamber the round.
The sound of metal clashing echoed clearly in the enclosed space.
The man on the left immediately went weak in the knees and couldn't even maintain his kneeling position. He sat down on the ground with tears and snot streaming down his face.
"No—don't kill me! We belong to the U.S. State Department! You can't—"
Before he could finish speaking, the trigger was pulled.
"boom."
"boom."
"boom."
Three gunshots rang out, and several corpses collapsed limply to the ground.
The viscous substance that sprayed out from behind his head stuck to the wall and then slowly dripped down.
Blood then spread, leaving a winding trail on the gray floor tiles.
"Clap."
A voice recorder slipped from the man's arms on the left, rolled a few times, and came to rest at his feet.
Zhou Yi bent down and picked it up.
The green light is still flashing, indicating that data is being transmitted in real time.
He gave a sarcastic smirk and casually tossed the recording pen into the pool of blood.
"boom!"
The last shot rang out.
The entire building returned to silence.
The sun outside was scorching.
The three quickly got into the van, started the engine, and it soon drove onto the street.
No one mentioned what had just happened in the room.
Colin, sitting in the passenger seat, rummaged through the pile of junk, pulled out a warm bottle of Coke, unscrewed it, and gulped down two mouthfuls.
"Where to next?" Bud asked, his tone steady but his voice dry.
He sat in the back seat, watching the scenery rushing past the window, his expression somewhat complicated, as if he was not used to seeing three unarmed compatriots kneeling and begging for mercy die before his eyes.
"Withdraw from the city and meet up with them in Goma," Zhou Yi replied briefly, his gaze never leaving the front. Colin, on the other hand, remained as carefree as ever, pulling out half a pack of cigarettes from his pocket and starting to puff away.
After passing three blocks, he suddenly looked up at the distance and squinted.
There was a white two-story building. People were moving around inside the iron fence. You could see many people in military uniforms running, shouting, and pushing each other in the chaos.
“That looks like the headquarters of some brigade,” Colin said.
"Are they gathering?" Zhou Yi asked casually.
"It's very possible that with Karabi dead, all sorts of monsters and demons will emerge."
Upon hearing this, Zhou Yi turned to look at the back seat.
At Colin's feet lay the last RPG, stuck in the mat next to the wooden crate.
He pondered for a few seconds, then suddenly slammed on the brakes and turned the steering wheel to make a U-turn.
"What's wrong?" Bard finally snapped out of his daze and asked nervously.
“I was thinking,” Zhou Yi said, gesturing for Colin to lift the object up, “since we’re not going to use it anyway, we might as well set off some fireworks before we leave.”
Colin immediately realized what was happening and clicked his tongue.
"Damn it, I feel like you've gotten even crazier than before?"
Zhou Yi shrugged and parked the car on the side of the road.
“Aim at the point,” he said.
Colin burst out laughing. "That sounds like a fucking movie line."
He bent down, pulled the RPG out of the box, slung it over his shoulder, and released the safety.
However, before I could even roll down the car window, a black man in camouflage was seen running towards me menacingly.
"Who are you? Get down here for inspection."
He shouted at the van, his voice booming, and deliberately showed off the rifle on his back as he walked.
Colin was dumbfounded. "Who the hell is this?"
Zhou Yi remained silent.
At the same time, the black man had arrived at the vehicle and started banging on the tinted glass.
"Did you hear me? Get down! Now!"
"During this special period, inspections are mandatory!"
This time, the window rolled down as he wished.
The next second, all the threatening words got stuck in his throat.
The launch tube is dark green, and the front of the warhead is wrapped with a faded red band.
There were also masked passengers.
The Black man opened his mouth in confusion: "What—"
"boom!"
A small hole exploded between his eyebrows.
Gunshots rang out suddenly beside him, startling Colin so much that he instinctively curled his index finger.
"Bam—!"
The rocket traced an unstable arc in the air before crashing diagonally across the street.
"Damn it!" Colin's eyes widened. "I'm not ready!"
But it was too late.
A deafening roar nearly shattered the air.
The roof of the two-story white building was pierced on the spot.
The pole flew up, and the military flag was engulfed in flames.
The soldiers in the courtyard, who were preparing to set off, hadn't even reacted yet. They stood there dumbfounded, staring at the rising smoke, unsure whether to lie down immediately or organize a counterattack.
Zhou Yi holstered his pistol and shook his head with a sigh, "Is this the level of skill trained in Huachukabao?"
Upon hearing this, Colin immediately objected, saying, "I have the tab, AND the scrolll, and besides, you didn't even warn me before you fired the gun."[1]
“There’s a man carrying a rifle,” Zhou Yi said, starting the engine again, “and you’re wearing a headset.”
"I don't know what else I need to remind you of."
"Damn." Colin scratched his head awkwardly. "I guess that's it."
In the rearview mirror, the white building was still burning.
Several soldiers finally raised their guns, jumped into the pickup truck, and rushed over.
Unfortunately, all that could be seen were a few tire tracks, as if nothing had ever been there.
[1] Tab is Ranger School, and Scroll is Ranger Patch. Here, Colin is saying that he is not the "civilian staff" that Zhou Yi jokingly refers to, because Huachuka Fort mainly represents the logistics/intelligence training base.
