Chapter 224 Face-to-Face RPG
"Damn, the embassy's security is so damn useless, they actually managed to scare her to death."
Colin tossed the binoculars onto the sofa next to him and muttered a casual remark.
Less than half a minute after the attack, the elegant courtyard was reduced to ruins.
Thick smoke billowed out, and the sunshade at the edge of the lawn was quickly burned to ashes.
Karabi was shattered all over the ground, and half of his arm hung from the tree like a wind chime.
Colin clicked his tongue, turned around, and patted Bud on the shoulder.
"Nothing to see, buddy. Let's head back, grab a couple of drinks in North Kivu, and then wait for our paychecks to roll in."
He paused for a moment, then couldn't help but exclaim, "This might be the easiest half a million I've ever made in my life. John is a fucking genius."
Bud grinned, about to reply, when he saw Zhou Yi shake his head slightly.
“There’s a second half,” he said, pointing to the dilapidated van parked downstairs, adding, “Kalabi is just the beginning.”
Immediately, Colin's face showed a look of surprise.
"The president is dead, security is paralyzed, the army is leaderless, mission accomplished. Can we just disband and go home?"
He thought for a moment, then glanced at the commotion in the distance, and said, "Or are you planning to go over and fire a few more shots to prevent him from reviving?"
Zhou Yi ignored Colin's teasing.
“It’s not that simple,” he said. “The CIA isn’t an NPC in a game where plans are disrupted and they can just pretend nothing happened.”
Upon hearing this, Bard frowned: "You mean, they can still... renew the contract?"
“And it will happen very soon.” Zhou Yi nodded. “What they need to do now is simply to find a few ‘controllable military leaders,’ give them resources, put them on television, and announce the establishment of a transitional government.”
"Regardless of whether it succeeds in the end, the risks involved in this process are unacceptable to us."
Colin noticed the implication in his words and his eyes lit up.
"So we might as well just wipe out all those in military uniforms?"
"Continuing with today's style, strap some explosives to the drone. I fucking love that suggestion."
“That’s inefficient,” Zhou Yi shook his head again, “and there’s no need for it. We’re not here to create anarchy.”
"So your target is the CIA?" Bud asked hesitantly, his voice slightly tense.
Zhou Yi did not deny it, responding briefly: "...only part of it."
"What we need to do is delay the formation of a new government, keep the situation volatile, and create more room for action for our friends in the east."
Colin sighed helplessly when his plan to take an early vacation fell through.
"Fuck the CIA, they're not this dedicated even in the desert."
Bud wasn't so disappointed, perhaps because of the lure of the $500,000.
He bent down, picked up the backpack from the ground, and asked, "What's our next step?"
“Go to their temporary meeting point,” Zhou Yi said. “Remember the architectural plans I showed you a few days ago?”
“Now?” Bard paused, “And didn’t you say back then that it was just an alternative?”
"I prefer to finish quickly." Zhou Yi smiled, glancing at his watch. "Warm-up is over, then the formal training begins."
Brady stood behind the duty desk, his expression tense.
The system had just issued a yellow alert to the outpost when people upstairs were frantically defusing a bomb, disconnecting the internet, encrypting data, backing up data, and destroying data.
He stared at the surveillance camera at the door, then glanced at the time in the upper right corner—11:21.
Karabi died twenty minutes ago.
The presidential guard has not yet responded, and no soldiers have yet appeared on the streets to enforce martial law.
They must complete the transfer during this precious window of opportunity; it cannot be interrupted.
The temperature seems to have risen.
Brady felt a little sweat on his back.
Suddenly, he noticed a minivan appearing on the right side of the screen.
The car was old and worn, covered with faded stickers, and it moved very fast, passing the main gate in no more than ten seconds.
Brady frowned, instinctively becoming alert.
In these extraordinary times, any abnormality signifies danger.
He pulled a pistol from under the table, cocked it quickly, and crouched low. "All hands on alert," Brady pressed the communicator button and reported quietly, "There's a car in front of the door, looks like it has a fake license plate, there might be something wrong with it."
The van was getting closer and closer.
There was still no slowdown.
Five seconds left.
three seconds.
one second.
It glided past the wall, seemingly just passing by.
Fortunately it was a false alarm.
Brady was just about to relax when he heard a screeching sound as the tires screeched across the pavement.
Almost simultaneously, a cylindrical section of material emerged from the passenger-side window.
The front is reflective and wrapped with tape, while the bottom has a stand.
In the instant his brain reacted, Brady was so shocked he almost jumped up and turned around to run back.
However, it was too late.
"boom--!"
The explosion ripped the entire wall off its surface.
In an instant, countless scorching fragments swept horizontally into the foyer.
Brady couldn't dodge in time, was thrown half a meter by the shockwave, and slammed heavily against the wall.
His neck and below collapsed, and his chest felt as if it had been struck by a giant hammer, with all his ribs shattered.
The first companion to rush downstairs to help didn't even have time to react before being struck head-on by a flying steel bar. He staggered back a few steps and died on the spot.
Everything happened too fast, without any warning.
Nobody knew whether it was guerrillas, rebels, or government troops who had come on a rampage.
Even after the evacuation procedure was initiated, the on-site response was still a beat slow.
However, that half-beat was enough to be fatal.
The three people in the van had already broken into the building.
Wearing a black mask and fully armed, their origins were impossible to discern.
Dust filled the stairwell, and the air was thick with the stench of blood.
Zhou Yi was finally pushed in through the broken section, his left shoulder pressed against the wall, the muzzle of the gun level with his line of sight.
Someone leaned out to the right front, and was shot in the chest as soon as his shoulder was exposed, falling instantly.
Zhou Yi didn't stop, quickly approaching, and the second shot cleanly ended the man's suffering.
Without making any further confirmation, he kicked away the other man's rifle and continued forward.
In the distance, gunshots and explosions rang out one after another; it was Bud and Colin.
After a brief period of suppression, the flanks fell silent again.
"Second floor, area B, cleared." At that moment, Colin's voice came through the headset.
"Keep pushing forward," Zhou Yi responded in a low voice.
He observed the end briefly for a few seconds, then cut the corner to the left.
There, the gate was ajar, and two figures could be vaguely seen in the corner.
One of them was stuffing the equipment into an anti-static hard case, while another stood guard behind him, crouching and holding a gun.
Zhou Yi confirmed the firing range and fired two short bursts, creating several clouds of blood mist.
It wasn't until the warm liquid splashed onto his clothes that the office worker belatedly realized what was happening and frantically reached for the pistol at his waist.
The next second, the bullet pierced the space between the eyebrows, and the body immediately collapsed to the ground.
Zhou Yi didn't linger for a moment, turned around and left, heading towards the team's rendezvous point.
