Chapter 504 The Ups and Downs of the New Year
Chapter 504 The Ups and Downs of the New Year
On April 3rd, the new school year officially began at Haneoka High School.
Jun Matsue stood on the balcony on the fourth floor of the teaching building, clinging to the railing with the girl beside him, looking down at the bustling crowd below.
From a bird's-eye view, the heads of the first-year students looked like clusters of black mushrooms, slowly moving around surrounded by sailor uniforms and white shirts.
"Another year of new students entering school." The boy rested his chin on his arm, his tone somewhat wistful.
“We’re the bosses of the school now.” Mochizuki Haruka turned to face him and tugged at her navy blue bow tie.
The school uniforms of Haneoka High School have different decorative colors for each grade. The light blue that was once the first grader's color has now become a symbol of maturity for the third grader.
"The coming year will be a year in which we lord it over everyone."
The girl said this in a very serious tone, and Jun Matsueda couldn't help but laugh.
"Are you planning to become the leader of Yuqiu High School?"
"Doesn't that sound pretty cool?" Mochizuki Haruka straightened up, her left hand resting on her skirt, her right hand on her waist, and one foot lightly tapping forward.
She raised her delicate chin, her arrogant gaze fixed on the face of the person in front of her.
"He seems more like a model than a delinquent," the boy commented.
Then the girl's cold gaze softened, she smiled faintly, and leaned against the railing beside him again. A gentle breeze blew, and a few strands of her black hair fluttered in the wind.
"Anyway, there's nothing to be sad about. Your future will definitely be more exciting than it is now, won't it?"
Before the warmth in Matsueda Jun's heart could spread, she added another sentence.
"Of course, the premise is that I have to break up with Tomatsu Yuka as soon as possible."
The boy's relaxed expression stiffened slightly as he watched the freshmen walk toward the auditorium. The girl leaned close to his ear and said something relentlessly.
"You've taken your revenge on Yami Maki for the entire spring break, and you've had your fun, haven't you? I don't think you still have much lingering affection for her."
"The new semester is starting, it's the perfect opportunity to break up!"
"Slowly drift apart from each other, and when people ask, just say that there were already some disagreements during the holidays. After a while, wouldn't it be justifiable to announce the breakup?"
"As for the reason, we found that our personalities are not compatible after spending time together, so it's better to remain friends—what does Songzhi think?"
Mochizuki Haruka's soft voice brushed against the boy's ear. Just as Matsueda Jun was about to speak, another girl's gentle voice called out from behind them.
"Jun-kun, Kominato-sensei wants us to go get the notification slip together."
The two people on the balcony turned around, and Tomatsu Yuka, who was standing in the corridor, smiled and waved to them.
"Tch." Mochizuki Haruka curled her lip in disdain and muttered, "A guy who can't read the room."
"Come here."
With his arms propped up on the railing, Jun Matsue walked toward the shady stairwell, the girl beside him tugging at his sleeve.
"Don't forget what I said, and remember to hurry up."
The fourth floor of the teaching building only had two classes, Class 5 and Class 6 of Grade 3, making it particularly quiet. The boys and girls walked through the corridor and went down the stairs together.
"The new school year has begun," Tomatsu Yuka said gently. "How do you plan to spend your final year of high school, Tsunku?"
Jun Matsue kept walking, watching a group of figures in school uniforms run past outside the stairwell. "Leave no regrets, do what needs to be done, that's enough."
"Don't you have any particular goals?" The girl tilted her head in confusion. "In that case, wouldn't I be completely useless by Tsunkun's side?"
"Getting into the University of Tokyo? The goal for a senior in high school is, in the end, just getting into university, right?" "That's not a problem for you," Tomatsu Tomohana said with a smile. "Last year, three people got into the University of Tokyo."
"Does being a senior in high school necessarily mean facing some kind of hardship and obstacle?" The boy shrugged.
The two walked into the second floor, where the noise in the corridor grew wildly like weeds, and the classrooms they passed were filled with the sounds of cleaning and moving desks and chairs.
“That makes sense.” The girl smiled; her situation was actually the same as Matsueda Jun’s. “Then let’s just get through this year peacefully.”
"Otherwise what?" The boy glanced at her. "Do you want to compete with Mochizuki for the position of leader of Yuukoka High School?"
Although she didn't know what Jun Matsue was talking about, Tomoka Tomatsu still laughed happily.
A few minutes later, the two of them, carrying thick stacks of documents and notices, followed Kominato Shoko out of the office.
"I didn't expect to have to prepare for the Kawai Juku mock exam so soon after the start of the semester." The boy glanced at the exam notice in his arms.
"This is the atmosphere of senior year," the female teacher said, her low-heeled shoes clicking as she greeted the students walking towards her.
"Preparing for higher education means facing this kind of situation, unlike the first and second years of high school—a year full of exams, and everyone has to work hard to adapt!"
The boy and girl nodded in unison, "Understood."
The first thing the homeroom teacher did upon arriving in the classroom was to rearrange the seats. The three students in the back row remained in their original positions, but they all moved closer to the window.
"The last year!" After a simple greeting, Kominato Shoko gently tapped the podium. "No matter what kind of days you've been through before, it's time to adjust your mindset now."
"The day I leave Yuqiu High School is just around the corner. Teachers and parents have talked to me countless times about how to choose my future and how to strive for it."
"The important thing is what each person thinks—"
"No one wants to live a life of going through school and getting a job in a daze, without understanding what's going on, and entering society without even knowing how much tax they have to pay," right?
A burst of laughter, not entirely frivolous, filled the classroom.
"So think about it! And then work hard!" The female teacher placed her hands on the podium and looked at each of the students below.
"Everyone is at an age where they have wishes and aspirations, and in order to realize them, they must be prepared to put in all their sweat and time."
"I will stay by your side and witness all of this together!"
As the words fell, a chorus of footsteps and chatter erupted outside the teaching building. The entrance ceremony was over, and the new students and their parents walked out of the auditorium.
"Next, please proceed to the auditorium for the inauguration ceremony."
"Make sure to use this time to get your mind in order, because starting tomorrow, there will be a barrage of tests and exercises!"
Sitting in the bright and magnificent auditorium, Jun Matsuoka withdrew his gaze from the principal on the stage and looked at the seats on both sides.
To the right sat Tomatsu Tomoka, the girl sitting upright with a gentle smile on her face, as if she were listening attentively to the principal's speech.
However, her left hand was kneading the boy's fingers, and if no one disturbed her, the girl could probably keep playing like this forever.
To her left was Mochizuki Haruka, who covered her mouth and yawned, looking utterly bored. She didn't notice the little thing someone else was doing on the other side.
Unlike most students, neither Jun Matsue nor the girls sitting on either side of him need to worry too much about their future.
So when those pent-up emotions and energy come together, their final year is destined to give birth to many stories.
