Chapter 463 Letter
At 3:10 p.m. on Sunday, the 90th Haneoka Festival came to an end amid cheers that nearly lifted the roof off.
Jun Matsue walked out of the auditorium with the flow of people. Everyone was still holding candied apples, ribbons and various gifts. He avoided the pushing and shoving, and like a nimble fish, he quickly swam back to the shore.
After watching Yami Maki leave the classroom of Class 2-6, Matsueda Jun has not seen her since the end of the cultural festival.
Only the candied apples from the girls' class kept appearing in the students' hands, like a blinding red blob on a traffic light, still lingering in his field of vision.
"Matsue! How come you're so fast!" Ken Sakamuro poked his head out from the crowd and waved to him. Taking advantage of the crowd, the boy walked up to him like Moses parting the sea.
"The class is planning to go to Shibuya together later, are you coming?"
Before Matsueda Jun could speak, he continued, "Our bar made so much money this time, we should celebrate, right?"
"You haven't gone out with us in ages. We never see you after school. Are you some kind of superhero? Do you rush off to save Tokyo as soon as school's over?"
The students who passed by the two laughed, and Jun Matsue pretended to be flustered and fidgeted with his cuffs.
"You discovered all of this? If it weren't for me, Tokyo would have been destroyed by Godzilla's laser, the Third Impact, and rampaging superhumans long ago."
"I thank you on behalf of the citizens of Tokyo," Ken Sakamuro waved dismissively. "Are you going or not?"
"Besides those who usually go home, even several students who are supposed to attend tutoring classes have taken leave!"
Jun Matsue stretched.
"Other superheroes are covering my shift today."
"so?"
"Let's go."
When the boys and girls heading to Shibuya gathered at the school gate, Jun Matsueda unsurprisingly spotted Tomatsu Tomoka and Haruka Mochizuki in the crowd.
"The cultural festival was a great success, I'm so happy I want to sing a song~" Tomatsu Yuka winked at him.
Mochizuki Haruka didn't say anything, but simply smoothed her black hair over her shoulder and silently walked to Matsue Jun's side.
After taking the train at Kugayama Station, the group arrived at Shibuya Station twenty minutes later. Jun Matsueda followed the group into a shopping mall, where the crowd began to disperse. Ken Sakamuro led a few people straight to the arcade on the third floor, while many girls went into the karaoke room on the fourth floor.
"Where are you going, Matsu-san?" Tomatsu Yuka asked the boy behind her as she stood on the stairs.
Jun Matsueda thought for a while, "I've listened to enough songs these past two days, let's rule out karaoke for now."
"Is that so?" The girl looked a little troubled. "Then I'll go upstairs and sing for a while, and then come down to find Matsueda-san?"
Tomatsu Yuka tucked her hand into her sleeve and waved cutely. The boy watched her walk up the stairs, then turned around—Mochizuki Haruka, standing at the bottom of the steps, was staring at him without moving.
“You look a little scary.” Jun Matsue walked towards her.
The girl's cheeks puffed out slightly. "I'm still angry—even though I spent the most time playing with you, why do people who come into the store always say that you and Tomatsu look like a better match?"
"Maybe it's because Tomatsu is standing on the podium that he's more noticeable?" the boy guessed. "Actually, you and I are both huddled in the corner."
"Then why doesn't everyone say that she and the trumpeter are the perfect match!" It seems that Mochizuki Haruka doesn't mind at all.
The saxophonist and the trumpeter were both standing on the stage, but everyone knew that Tomatsu Yuka couldn't possibly like girls.
Tomatsu seems to have become more and more well-behaved lately. As Jun Matsueda was walking down the street, he suddenly realized that he hadn't seen her arguing with Mochizuki for a long time.
Could these two have reached some kind of agreement? He looked at the girl walking beside him.
"What are you doing?" Mochizuki Haruka's voice was still a little muffled.
Given their personalities, how could the boy have shaken his head?
"I'm not really interested in playing video games. What else do girls do after school besides singing?"
The girl fell into deep thought, then waved her right hand and led Matsueda Jun towards the mall.
Do you know what high school girls like?
Walking through the "LoFT" chain store, Mochizuki Haruka asked the boy next to her in a teacher-like tone, "Do you like desserts and handsome guys?" This was Matsueda Jun's conclusion based on his own experience.
“Partially correct.” The girl found herself unable to refute it. “They like everything that is delicious and beautiful.”
"And shopping."
"It's a woman's nature." The boy nodded.
“Almost all girls have the habit of going shopping after school—cheap grocery stores and small shops like Loft are the most popular.”
Matsueda Jun looked up at the sign on the wall. The seven-story building could be said to have basically covered most of the goods in people's lives.
"Girls in Tokyo love dressing up and basically visit these beauty shops every week. Other popular ones are—"
The girl took a few steps and picked up a graffiti-style canvas bag hanging on the wall. "These bags, pouches, and various pendants and small toys are all little things that are useful but not very useful."
The boy nodded; indeed, the girls' backpacks at Yuukoka High School had many colorful charms and stickers on them.
Speaking of which, although there were no pendants on the senior's bag, all the amulets he gave her were hung on it.
"Why do your eyes look so melancholy again?" Mochizuki Haruka's face was close to his. "Who are you thinking about?"
“Senior,” Jun Matsue answered honestly.
"You've already broken up, why are you still clinging to the past? Aren't you ashamed of yourself?" The girl said sternly, mimicking the tone of Kominato Shoko when criticizing students in class.
“Terrible.” The boy lowered his head, as if in repentance.
The after-school adventure of imitating high school girls came to an end. Mochizuki Haruka went to find the gyaru girls playing dance games, while Matsueda Jun walked out of the mall alone, taking the rich girl's money to buy milk tea for everyone.
As he passed the stairwell, he saw Tomatsu Tomoka once again.
"Where are you going, Pine Branch?" The girl's cheeks were flushed, and she fanned herself with her right hand. "I was just about to come find you."
"Mochizuki is treating everyone to milk tea, and I'm in charge of running the errand." Jun Matsue waved the shiny card in his hand.
"Hmm, you can't carry it all by yourself, can you? I'll go with you." As the vice class monitor, Tomatsu Yuka always felt the need to help her class monitor, no matter the time or place.
The two walked out of the building, and a milk tea shop with a cat logo was right across the street. They stopped at the intersection and waited for the green light to come on.
As a car drove past them, Tomatsu Yuka suddenly asked.
"Matsueda-kun has been getting quite close to Mochizuki lately, hasn't she?"
"Is he planning to use her to get revenge on his senior?"
The boy did not answer.
"If it's about revenge, I'm definitely the best tool, aren't I?" The girl turned her head, her eyes showing no malice whatsoever.
Needless to say, if you're close to Tomomi Tomatsuri, then the best choice is definitely the one that stings Yamami Maki.
But that would be too cruel to the senior. Matsueda Jun's plan was simply to break through her outer shell.
Because of the boy's silence, the girl's question quickly disappeared into the wind. Tomatsu Yuka didn't mind. When the birdsong signaling the passage sounded, the two walked across the street.
The large display screen at the intersection flashed, and the two looked up to see Qi Yangshi's flawless face illuminated on it.
"Radiant Light. Yosei Kurusu's World Tour," Tomatsu Yuka read aloud from the screen. "So Yosei-san is already on tour?"
To her surprise, the boy also had a look of surprise on his face.
That evening, Jun Matsue received a message from Yosei Kurusu.
"Matsueda, I'm leaving Tokyo!"
