Chapter 80 The Shadow of the Demon in the Slums
Chapter 80 The Shadow of the Demon in the Slums (510)
The prisons near Manhattan, the crises that occurred within them, and that almost enormous light—none of these things had anything to do with the Black people of Queens.
For them, all curiosity is no match for the instinctive reactions of their bodies.
That is, what to eat today.
Since Trump signed a series of executive orders called "Make America Great Again," which in reality made the poor pay for the rich, life has become even worse for the poor here.
They were surprised to find that the food and subsidies they used to receive for free now required proof of employment and tax payments.
Even temporary workers are not eligible for subsidies; they must be employed on a formal basis.
Not to mention the donation points on the street or the places where food is distributed, these places have already begun to be demolished.
This intensified exploitation made life even more difficult for the already impoverished people who were living in dire straits.
The number of homeless people has even decreased significantly. People without money can only work for gangs or go to pharmaceutical companies to test drugs, and then they quickly disappear.
These are not statements made out of thin air, but rather things that Remus read in the mind of the black man in front of him.
The other party is currently in a very confused state, which makes it easy for Remus to deconstruct their identity.
As a follower of a demon, Remus is certainly not so easy to die, but right now, he can hardly be considered "alive".
During that terrifying chase, he witnessed firsthand the scene of the demon lord named "Baphomet," who was said to be one of the top ten demons in Hell, being hunted down by the archangel Michael.
Originally, Lem didn't have much actual knowledge about the archangel who appeared in this mythology.
But after experiencing that chase in that space called "Hell," he realized just how strong Michael really was!
This six-winged seraph practically swept through the entirety of Hell, slicing down any demons, buildings, volcanoes, or anything else that stood in its way.
It was only in the final moments, when the archangel was about to be taken away by the bright cross because his time of descent had come, that Baphomet was spared from death.
As for Remus, who was in Baphomet's body, he certainly wouldn't fare well.
The great demon simply said, "Your contract is not yet complete," and then threw him back to the human world, landing him in this area.
As soon as he landed, he felt the terrifying bright light coming from afar, as well as that terrifying holy power, which made him immediately restrain his power.
That was the power of holy light, the holy power belonging to those angels and to the Kingdom of Heaven, and also the pain that had just penetrated his body and marrow.
Even though Remus's emotions had been greatly diminished by his repeated acts of revenge, he could still feel the bone-deep pain and fear, a powerful force that he could not resist.
Such pain would not lessen because he was a demon, nor could it be reduced by the loss of emotion. Only at this moment did he truly understand why angels and demons were natural enemies.
Of course, Remus no longer has the power to cause trouble for his targets.
His body was riddled with all sorts of injuries, which almost turned him from an invincible "demon" into a half-crippled man.
He lay in this small house in the slum, relying on the joys and sorrows of the people around him, experiencing their love and hate, and looking at human senses from the perspective of a "devil".
This was the only thing Remus could do. Michael's methods were too ruthless; he had almost broken the structure of Remus's entire body, rendering him unable to move.
If it weren't for the demon's incredibly strong body, he would have been completely annihilated by now.
But as a demon, Remus's tenacious vitality and the pact from hell were the very foundation of his survival. Even more miraculously, as the resentment, malice, and evil thoughts of the people in the slums arose, Remus actually gained a small amount of power from them that could repair his body!
He absorbed this power into his body and felt his body recover. This also made Remus, who was originally lying quietly, suddenly have some other thoughts.
"The evil thoughts of others can restore my body?" he concluded in surprise.
So Remus quickly prayed to Baphomet, hoping to get some guidance. After all, he was a direct relative, and Baphomet, while recuperating, actually gave him some answers.
"If you can cultivate your own followers, the fear, malice, and chaos they bring will become your strength!"
"To impart power, to transform others, to reap fear—that is how a demon grows!"
That's what demons are like: absolute chaos, absolute power, which breeds absolute fear and indulgence, and in an open and aboveboard form!
Perhaps that's why demons are so powerful and able to contend with the Seven Heavens.
For Remus, this was nothing short of a rebirth!
He was no longer satisfied with just absorbing this little bit of malice; he wanted to create his own special team so that even if he went to hell, he would have his own group of demons instead of being a lone wolf!
Remus was not an ordinary soldier in the army; he was a lieutenant who managed a team of dozens of men and had extensive management experience.
Therefore, he knew how to get someone to willingly become his subordinate and create panic for him.
After inspecting many people from the slums, he found the man in front of him.
Tyne Ward, an African American, is a henchman of a local black gang, a "scumbag" who lives on the streets, a character who gets checked by the police as soon as he walks down the street!
However, unlike his compatriots, Tyne was an educated man.
While others were just drifting through life, Tyne chose to study, and through diligent study, he almost received an invitation from a prestigious university.
Then he was eliminated. How could a Black man born in the Queens slums possibly pass the preliminary selection of those prestigious universities? Even if he was the best student in the community.
His spot was taken by someone else, his identity was replaced, and his achievements, which he worked hard for over a decade and owed the gang tens of thousands of dollars in loans, became someone's identity document on the Upper East Side!
Tyne quickly realized this, understood the original sin of his identity, and completed his own fall, becoming a member of the most radical gang in the area, the Black Lives Matter, and vowing to bring those greedy rich people down from their pedestals.
Then he was beaten, the Black Lives Matter gang disbanded under police pressure, and Tyne, who had lost an arm, walked up to Remus in a daze and became the object of his memory reading.
"Tsk tsk tsk!" Remus felt that this person was almost perfect.
Pure hatred, a broad knowledge base and social awareness, and an incredibly clear understanding of himself all told him that if Tyne hadn't been Black, he probably would have already been happily burdened with student loans.
But it's precisely this kind of person who suits him!
Remus sensed that the hatred within Tyne was enough to make him a shaper of fear, which would certainly allow him to gain more power to repair his body, or even go further!
"Let me think, what should we change it to?" Remus didn't want a disposable subordinate, but a group of creatures that could continuously help him generate fear, so how to modify them was very important.
"Woof woof!" Suddenly, the sound of a dog barking in his ear made Remus's eyes light up. "Hey! Would it be more suitable to transform him into a dog... or rather, a werewolf?"
So, in a daze, Tyne Ward opened his eyes and saw this terrifying demon before him!
"A generous gift of crabs! My hair! Mazefak?"
The first reaction to fear is, of course, to be unable to move.
