From the God of Lies to the Lord of All Worlds
Chapter 51 Cause and Effect
Chapter 51 Cause and Effect
In fact, in Manhattan, the pace of life is fast, and everyone reacts quickly.
For example, the Department of Veterans Affairs is located near Wall Street, which, while not the busiest area, is still considered a core area.
The moment something happens here, an intelligent AI will send an alarm, which will be sent directly to the New York Police Department headquarters!
That's why the police department received the alert almost the moment Remus grabbed Martin by the neck!
The officers in the monitoring room, as was their habit, pulled up the department's surveillance footage to see what had happened.
New York's police force is very valuable. It's impossible to send officers directly to every alarm. If every accidental trigger or minor problem required the police to go, no matter how many officers there are, they wouldn't be able to handle it all.
Therefore, determining whether police resources need to be deployed becomes the task of the officers in the monitoring room.
The officer who received the alert seemed rather bored. He didn't think there were any really powerful criminals who would dare to act so arrogantly in Manhattan. It was probably just a few people causing trouble, or an employee accidentally triggered the alarm, or an AI misjudgment.
Therefore, the moment he saw the screen, he had time to pour himself a Coke and watch it while drinking.
As he had guessed, there was only one intruder, who was unarmed, and the security guards quickly surrounded him.
"Hmm..." The officer nodded slightly. "No need for police force. The Department of Veterans Affairs has the money. These security guards' stun guns are all new, not the old relics in the station!"
But before he could finish his cola, he saw the strong man knock down all the security guards with a few punches. The officer immediately put down his cola, picked up the communicator beside him, and said, "This is the dispatch center. Patrol officers on the streets of West Manhattan, please proceed to the Department of Veterans Affairs immediately!"
Now that the security guards are down, it's time for them to step in. One person defeating six security guards shows that he is very strong in combat.
"Remember to bring your gun; the target is very dangerous!"
The officer continued watching the surveillance footage, watching the employee pull out a gun, watching the man walk with the other person, watching the employee flee, and then with each step, a piece of his body fell off...
"Dispatch center? Dispatch center? Hello? Is anyone there?"
Suddenly, the voice on the communicator snapped the officers out of their daze: "We have arrived outside the building and found some escaped Veterans Affairs employees. Request permission to enter directly."
"Wait! Wait!" the officer shouted. "Don't rush in! You all stay outside and keep watch! I'll go ask the chief!"
His voice was very conspicuous and shrill on the communication channel, “Don’t go in, no matter what happens… Oh my God! Is this for real?”
The officer scrambled out of the monitoring room, then rushed back a few seconds later, fiddled with the computer for a couple of seconds, and then scrambled out again!
Soon, the senior officers at the New York Police Department headquarters, who were having a meeting on the sixth floor, saw this junior officer rush in at an incredible speed!
"Bang!" He slammed the door open and shouted with all his might, "Quick! Play the video I sent! Quick..."
Upon hearing his shout, no one complied; instead, they looked at the man sitting at the head of the table.
He is Stephen Collins, the New York Police Commissioner and one of the city's top officials.
Seeing the officer's panic, Stephen weighed his options for a moment and said, "Look! He's given up his entire police career to come here and report to us; he's not kidding!"
Stephen recognized him; this new recruit was a freshman from the federal academy, not a local employee. Young people like him wouldn't joke around with their lives.
Soon, the footage from the Department of Veterans Affairs was shown to them, and the people in the room went from initial disdain and indifference to standing up in unison!
The images that distorted their worldview and caused their consciousness to collapse were simply too shocking! Stephen even asked directly, "When did this happen?"
“Just now, five minutes ago!” the officer said. “A patrol team arrived, but I told them to wait and not go in!”
Stephen looked at the young man with admiration. "You did the right thing. What's your name?"
"Sir, my name is Chris! Chris Lane!" the young officer—or rather, Chris himself—shouted, his face full of surprise. The fact that a young man who had only recently joined the force was being asked his name by the police chief spoke volumes!
“You go out first. Tell the patrol not to rush in. Seal off the Veterans Affairs Department first!” Stephen said, watching Chris close the door.
Then, facing the crowd before him, he sighed and said, "I originally thought that the video from California was just a poor performance, but now... I'm afraid it's not, gentlemen!"
As the police chief of New York, the world's largest metropolis and the undisputed highest-ranking official in the city, Stephen naturally had his own channels.
He had naturally heard about the church incident that happened in San Diego some time ago.
But Stephen didn't actually believe it. He had been the chief of police for almost half his life, and he had never seen any supernatural or mysterious events.
Now if you tell him that angels descended from the church to judge sins, how could he possibly believe you?
But now, they have no choice but to believe, because instead of angels, demons have descended upon them!
Just now, the surveillance video was connected to the large screen in their conference room. In front of all the police station's top officials, the man who set a Veterans Affairs employee on fire was now engulfed in an extremely eerie flame!
"Everyone, get moving! I need to get information from the scene as quickly as possible! At the same time, connect to the city's identity system and compare it with the man's information to find his identity!"
The chief lived up to his title; he issued orders swiftly in front of everyone, and the entire New York Police Department was operating with extreme efficiency!
This is actually a very strange thing. America's government departments are known for their inefficiency and disorder, but within this inefficient system, there is a very efficient special department: the police system!
These police officers, because they need to interact with people from all three social classes, have become synonymous with efficiency due to their high response rate and alarming crime rate.
Because of this, while the man was walking to the second and third floors, a document was sent directly to the computers in front of Stephen and the people around him.
A face identical to the man on the big screen, along with his information, was displayed on it:
"Remus O'Connor, a former Marine Corps captain, was discharged due to an accidental injury and has recently been trying to claim his retirement pension from the Department of Veterans Affairs!"
Upon hearing this, everyone in the police station understood immediately. They didn't even need to make a judgment; they could guess that this was a dispute over unpaid wages!
Who doesn't know that the Department of Veterans Affairs is a monster that feeds on the massive veterans system?
They sowed discord among soldiers, they embezzled and neglected their duties, they lined their own pockets with large sums of retirement and social security funds, and they fabricated all sorts of reasons to defraud federal subsidies!
These things are common knowledge; in fact, most of America's departments are like this.
The biggest difference is that most veterans are unable to claim their wages, usually due to "accidental death" or "voluntary abandonment."
What kind of situation is this, where a man just barges in and wants to get to the bottom of things?
Now, they see this man named Remus grabbing an employee by the neck and yelling, "Tell me, where's my money!"
Now everyone in the office understood. Just as they had guessed, the people demanding their unpaid wages had arrived.
The person who arrived was an "extraordinary person" demanding unpaid wages!
