From the God of Lies to the Lord of All Worlds

Chapter 48 The Contract Under the Capricorn

Chapter 48 The Contract Under the Capricorn

"Ha...ha..." The hoarse breathing slowly echoed from a corner of the Manhattan street.

Remus O'Connor, clutching the dagger to his chest, huddled wearily on the street corner.

Blood seeped from between his fingers, soaking through his tattered coat.

Beside his left leg was another folding knife and two corpses with wide-open eyes.

They're just two street thugs, obviously drug addicts. How could they possibly fight against a veteran like Remus who has actually fought in street battles in places like Syria, Iraq, and Afghanistan?

If he hadn't been left with only one hand, one foot, and one eye, he wouldn't have even been injured killing those two people.

Life-or-death combat is his forte, and it's also the reason he's been able to survive.

But now, all he can do is think about these pointless things.

He broke his crutch in the fight just now, and he can't possibly stand up in this state.

Even if he gets up, what good will it do? Does he have the money to treat his knife wound and spend months recovering?
Just think about it, and you'll realize that's simply impossible.

He's in a situation where if he doesn't work today, he'll go hungry tomorrow. Where will he get the extra money to support himself?
"So, death doesn't seem so bad after all?" Remus felt his life slipping away, looked at everything before him, silently closed his eyes, and began to await his death.

He didn't harbor any major resentment; he just felt that his life shouldn't have turned out this way.

He was a very proud and arrogant man. He didn't think he was wrong. If he was wrong, then it was the world that was wrong!

Looking at the man's memories, Bai Yang nodded with pleasure. He drew upon his own willpower and quietly constructed a scene in the other man's dream that resembled this world.

He replicated the entire real-world environment in his dream.

Although facing one person, even in reality, wouldn't consume too much willpower, thrift is a virtue, so he still chose to do it.

His existence was unknown to anyone, but in Remus's dream, everything seemed so peaceful:

"Tap, tap, tap..." A crisp sound of footsteps rang out in the alley, causing the somewhat weak Remus to slowly open his eyes.

What appeared before him was a very "beautiful" human being!

Yes, even from Remus's perspective, he couldn't tell the human's gender; he could only see the person's long hair and that exquisitely beautiful, almost inhuman face.

The most amazing thing is that this person is completely out of place with his surroundings, as if he is not on the same level. In front of Remus, he is a separate figure!

A strange sensation gradually appeared around him, and the unusual vision caused his pupils to shrink!
Soon, Remus discovered the problem: it was the sound!
The noise is gone; the cacophony of Manhattan has vanished here!
He peeked out with difficulty, looking at Manhattan through the narrow gap, and then he saw a dog with its limbs in mid-air, and a "person" jumping in mid-air in the distance.

They were as if they were frozen in place—no, not as if they were frozen in place, but as if the world had come to a standstill!
Thinking this, Remus finally turned his gaze back to the "person" in front of him! His eyes were filled with astonishment, "This... who exactly are you...?"

Hearing his question, the "person" slowly raised his head, looked at Remus with his almost eyeless eyes, and exclaimed in astonishment, "Brave, fearless, indomitable, heroic..."

"Your soul is even more coveted than that Azazel fellow described... So, dying human, will you make a deal with me?"

Upon hearing this, all the stories Remus had heard in church and the legends he often heard in the Middle East began to resonate in his mind!

A being who talks to him about transactions and souls is unlikely to be a benevolent being, nor is it very likely that a human is joking with him.

Who can joke about pausing the world in front of them?
Discarding all the impossibilities, the remaining possibilities, however absurd, are still the true facts!

"Are you a demon or a devil?" Remus asked, a peculiar feeling intoxicating him, as if he were about to agree to the deal at any moment!

Upon hearing his question, the other person laughed, "Call me a demon or a devil, it's just a title. You can also call me a god! These are all my identities!"

"But you're running out of time, you're bleeding out!"

His words made Remus realize that although the world had stopped, his blood was still flowing.

However, he seemed more composed, saying, "I'm going to die anyway, so it makes no difference whether I agree or disagree!"

Since it's a devil, it must want his soul. Remus felt the other party wouldn't let him die so easily. "Hahahaha! I love your personality, I love it so much!" the other party laughed loudly. "Remus O'Connor, I'll ask you one more time, do you want to sign a special contract with me? In my name, in the name of Baphomet! To fulfill your desire for revenge!"

As he spoke, terrifying, blackish-red flames appeared in his hand. After the flames died down, a special parchment with an ancient design, intricate patterns, and countless decorations that Remus couldn't understand appeared in his hand.

The man placed the parchment in the air, and it floated up, the words on it popping out one by one, looking incredibly beautiful and elegant:

Blood Pact Clause

Article 1. Divine Power Fugue

"Baphomet poured molten silver, dripping from the tip of his left horn, into the spinal cord of the Covenant Ones, so that:"

Seeing through the layers of the Netherworld

Manipulating the silent fire
Transform into a midnight fog wolf

Article Two: Soul Pawn

"The covenant signifies the surrender of three divine cornerstones:"
① The ability to shed tears for the first time before dawn

② The tympanic membrane of the right ear that receives angel frequencies
③ Jacob's Ladder between the ventricles of the heart
Article 3. Penalty Clauses

"If any light remains in the soul of the one who made the covenant:"

Baphomet has the right to sew his eyelids shut with moon milk silk, forever confining him to the 666th layer of Cain's Ring.

"If BAPNET fails to fulfill its commitments within seven months:"

The signatory may burn the covenant to ashes and smear the Capricorn rune to summon Beelzebub to devour its horns.

Upon seeing this contract, Remus's eyes widened!

Of course he didn't know who Baphomet was; the name of such an ancient demon, which only appeared in the Bible, was far too obscure in this country!
But he never expected that this was actually a very rare "equal contract" in which he had to make a contribution, and Baphomet also had to make a contribution!

Moreover, the price he paid seemed rather ordinary. What is the first tear before dawn? What is the frequency of angels? What is Jacob's Ladder?
How come he'd never heard of any of these things?

"If I sign the contract, will my soul belong to you?" Remus asked.

“No, no, no, how could I dare to compete with His Majesty Satan for a soul? Of course, it belongs to Hell!” Baphomet said with a smile. “But some of your powers should indeed belong to me!”

"You will permanently lose your emotions, your sense of holiness, and your faith in Heaven. So, do you want to sign?"

He actually stated the price directly, which greatly surprised Remus, but after looking at his bleeding chest, he still nodded.

“I’ll sign. I know that hidden within those patterns are countless lines of inequality. I know that after I sign, I will become your slave! But I will sign!”

Remus definitely had to sign; if he died, he would truly have nothing left.

But if he were alive, he could at least bring real disaster to those who had caused him pain!
What about the Vatican, angels, and Heaven? When I was suffering, I never saw them come to my aid.
At least the devil gave himself a choice, instead of utter despair!

As soon as he finished speaking, his name and Baphomet's name appeared together on the parchment:
[Party Contractor: Remus O'Connor]

Shepherd: Baphomet

Contract reached
