Deer Antler Hotel
Seeing the two scoundrels, Haven had no choice but to wash his face quickly, change his clothes, and then lead them downstairs. He sat down in a corner by the window in the lobby and waved to the waiter next to him.
"What are you two eating?"
Upon hearing the word "food," Serena instantly perked up and moved closer to Havet. The powerful thrust from her large frame made Havet turn his head to look at her.
"I want this one, this one, this one, this one looks good too."
Seeing that Serena had ordered eight or nine dishes in one go, including a roast chicken, a charcoal-grilled deer leg, and a large bowl of stewed meat with rice, the waiter couldn't help but kindly remind her:
"Sir, what you've ordered is enough for about seven or eight people. Why don't you start eating now, otherwise we won't be able to give you a refund once it's all served?"
Haven smiled at the rather nice waiter and handed the menu back to him.
"We'll take everything she ordered. If it's not enough, we'll order more later."
The waiter, seeing Haven's friendly smile, wanted to say a few more words of advice, but seeing the owner approaching, he had no choice but to leave dejectedly with the menu.
"Guests, is this your first time visiting Helgen? How was your journey?"
Seeing the boss approach, Haiwen nodded.
"Yes, it's our first time here. It's alright, except we're a little tired. But when you travel, it's normal to be tired."
"Yes, yes, you're right. But since this is your first time here, as the best hotel in Helgen, I have to recommend Helgen's specialty, braised iron horned deer. It would be a real shame to come to Helgen and not try this."
Serena, sitting next to Haven, was completely stunned by the boss's description. Haven, looking at the girl's expression, smiled.
"Give us one then. By the way, boss, we've been on the road these past few days. Has anything happened recently?"
"Borba! Cook the stag brew!"
After shouting towards the kitchen, the innkeeper turned back to Havent and said earnestly:
"Recently? The most recent thing is the disappearance of adventurers in the Misty Forest, and I heard that the White Lion Legion in the North is fighting with the ghouls. There seem to be some other things happening in the north of the Astra Empire, but I don't remember the specifics."
"By the way, there's a Black Horse Express in town. Shall I have my errand boy buy you a few recent copies?"
Hearing news from the North, Haven was a little concerned, wondering how he had fared during the twenty-odd days he had been gone.
"Okay, sure. Then I'll trouble you to have your errand boy buy me all the newspapers from the last two weeks."
As he spoke, he took out a silver coin from his pocket and tossed it to the shopkeeper. The shopkeeper caught the coin with agility and bowed to Havent with a beaming smile.
"Please wait a moment, and I will arrange for a shop assistant to purchase it for you."
"Peter! Peter! Serve this table a plate of smoked sausage and a plate of chickpeas, it's on me. After that, go to the Black Horse Express and buy them almost two weeks' worth of newspapers."
Soon, Serena's food was served. Because she had ordered a lot of food, the innkeeper even instructed the waiter to move the three of them to a large round table.
Haven grabbed a chicken leg in his right hand and started browsing the latest news with a newspaper in his left.
'On the tenth day of the autumn harvest month, Prince Gor will travel to the province of Hairat, at the behest of His Majesty Frederick IV, to participate in the sea festival.'
'On the twelfth day of the Autumn Harvest Month, due to the sudden appearance of remnants of the Church of Death in the North, causing significant damage to the Northern territories, the Marquis of Charlton, the Earl of Hyland, and the Earl of Morrie jointly issued a decree to form the Northern Guard. According to the Earl of Morrie himself, this will be a declaration of war against evil forces; the North will not tolerate any evil.' Upon reading this, Haven swallowed the chicken in his mouth, pursed his lips, and muttered a disapproving comment:
"This newspaper is really making things up. Only that sleazy old man could say something so outspoken!"
After venting, skip this and continue reading.
On the nineteenth day of the Autumn Harvest Month, according to insiders at the Adventurers' Guild, a suspected early outbreak of the demonic tide has occurred. Statistics show that multiple monster attacks have taken place in the Northern Territory, Panyun Province, and Mishraia Province, resulting in the annihilation of numerous caravans and mercenary groups.
"On the 22nd day of the Autumn Harvest Month, according to an official announcement from the Astra Empire, a legendary battle is suspected to have occurred on the northern island of Greta. The specific details of the battle are unknown. Greta Island has since disappeared, and it is suspected that the legendary engagement sank the island. The Astra Empire has dispatched its navy to the scene to investigate."
"Wow, those legendary mages are really something! They actually managed to sink an island. I wonder if Serena could..."
Thinking of this, Haven turned his head and looked over. Just then, the waiter brought over the braised iron-horned deer. Looking at the silver-haired girl with shining eyes, Haven silently shook his head.
'I'm overthinking it.'
I put down my newspaper and watched as the waiter began to butcher the iron-horned deer with a long dagger. I took the deer steak handed to me by the waiter and smelled it. I have to say, it smelled really good. While tearing into the deer steak, I picked up another newspaper and continued reading.
'His Holiness the Archbishop of Time, Ulster, announces that St. Cologne Cathedral will close to the public in three years; the specific reasons are unknown.'
'The White Lion Legion of the North has cleared all the ghouls from Sinren Territory and Kudejemar. The territory is currently undergoing restoration. The Northern Guard has issued a preferential relocation policy; interested citizens can register as residents at the Adventurers' Guild or either of these locations, and will be escorted by the White Lion Legion throughout the journey.'
Seeing this, Haven couldn't help but nod.
"The two old guys did a good job, they were very efficient, and they even put their policy of absorbing displaced people into practice."
Just as Haven was about to pick up other newspapers to see if there was any other information, an untimely voice rang in his ear.
"Hey! You guys have a good appetite. Where are you from?"
Haven looked up and saw a scarred young man wearing half-body leather armor leading the way, followed by several young men around twenty-five or twenty-six years old.
When the scarred youth saw Havel looking at him, he immediately reached out and tugged at the collar of his leather armor, revealing the tattoo on his chest.
Seeing the others looking at the three of them with amusement, Haven smiled speechlessly.
'Do these three look like weaklings? It seems like someone's even trying to collect protection money. The security in Helgen is terrible.'
Just as Haven was about to teach these thugs a lesson, the innkeeper, who had been tipped off by his waiter, rushed out as if his pants were on fire, carrying a large iron ladle.
"Hey, Gian, take your men and get out of here. This isn't a place for you to run wild."
When he saw the innkeeper running out with an iron ladle, Jian instinctively trembled with fear, but then he remembered that he now had a new boss, and instantly became tough again.
"Hey! Khufu, you heartless bastard, I'm not afraid of you anymore. Bloodblade just took me in as his underling, and I'm here on his orders to collect 'safety fees' from the newcomers to the town. Get the hell out of here now, or you'll regret it!"
