Knight Lords: Infinite Simulation and the Path of Light
Chapter 51 Assassination
Chapter 51 Assassination (Please continue reading)
After spending two days together, Havent became familiar with the members of this makeshift mercenary team once again.
Riding his horse, he lagged behind the group, chatting idly with the mercenary who had wielded the spear that day.
"Ander, what's it like on the Ama Line?"
Ander took the beer bag handed to him by Haven and took a big gulp. The rich taste of the beer made Ander shiver comfortably. Ander felt very friendly towards this generous young man.
"The Ama defense line! Actually, it's nothing special. The main thing is that I've never seen the outside world. I was just a supply soldier before and never went up the city wall."
However, I can tell you about some things inside the Arma Line. I remember Will said you were also from the North, right?
Haven nodded to Ander, signaling him to continue.
Andrei didn't have the bad habit of making hasty judgments either. Under Havent's inquisitive gaze, he slowly said:
“Every adult male in our Northern Territory has to serve on the Arma Line when he turns 18. It seems you haven’t been before, buddy. Well, let me tell you about it. With your abilities, Will, you might even become a patrol squad leader or something if you do well on the Arma Line.”
Hearing Ander's description, Haven was taken aback; he hadn't known before that every young man in the North was required to serve in the military upon reaching adulthood.
"Speaking of which, the lords of our Northern Territory have been quite good to us citizens. People like me only need to serve for five years at the Amma Defense Line before they can retire, and at the end of the term, they will receive a large sum of severance pay."
I've never been on the city wall, but I heard from my former captain that the main force gets better subsidies. They said you can exchange battle merits for all sorts of things. My captain was injured and came down from the front lines to become a supply transport captain. He had a longsword mixed with magical metal. Tsk tsk tsk, that's really a good thing.
"Will, you're so young and quite skilled. If you stay at the Arma Line for a few years and be careful, you can make a lot of money. Anyway, my years of service were pretty peaceful. The Arma Line is like a big city, it's really huge..."
Haven found Ander's sighing and lamenting expression somewhat amusing, but it sounded like his father and the others were indeed kind to the people of the North; at least Ander himself hadn't said anything bad about them even after retiring.
Perhaps I should visit the Ama Defense Line after I return from the capital. Just as Havent was lost in thought, he heard several whooshing sounds.
Whoosh~whoosh~whoosh~
Haven instinctively lay prone on the horse's back, but when he felt an arrow whizzing past his back, he immediately rolled off the horse and lay on the ground to see what had happened.
Beside him, Ander, unable to dodge in time, collapsed to the ground with several arrows lodged in his chest, coughing up blood incessantly.
Haven crawled up to Ander like a gecko.
"Hey, how are you, Ander?"
"Cough...cough...I'm alright, I'm not dead yet. Looks like we've been ambushed."
Haven raised his head, looked at the masked man approaching from a distance, and nodded to Ander.
"Congratulations on answering correctly, but there's no reward. Can you stand up now? We need to get out of here."
Watching the remaining mercenaries pull the young master and the old butler out of the carriage and flee into the depths of the jungle, Haven also pulled Ander up from the ground.
But it was clear that the ambush plan was very thorough. Several masked men emerged from the depths of the jungle, forcing the group back. Seeing the masked men surrounding them, the mercenary captain reluctantly stepped forward.
"Gentlemen, we are here on behalf of Baron Suil to escort the young master of the territory. You dare to attack us? Aren't you afraid that the Baron will find out about you later?"
Faced with the mercenary captain's questioning, the masked man remained silent in response.
Seeing the masked man eyeing their group men menacingly, the mercenary captain had no choice but to grit his teeth and say something again.
"Gentlemen, why don't you spare our lives? I promise to pretend this never happened. We're willing to hand over all our belongings." "Hahahaha~ Dolph~ You're quite the loyal henchman of that damned pig Suil."
The mercenary captain, Dolph, standing at the front, was momentarily stunned upon hearing the familiar voice. He then saw the masked crowd part, and a richly dressed woman emerged from the middle.
"Lady Edwina, why do you do this? The Baron was already planning to send Young Master Lori away, why are you determined to kill him?"
The beautiful woman standing opposite glared at the child hiding behind the mercenary captain with hatred in her eyes.
"Shut up, you damned bastard! What right does he have to be called a young master? Suier's heir can only ever be my son."
Haven, supporting Ander, watched secretly from behind, inwardly grumbling to himself.
'Damn it, how could I be so unlucky? I can't believe I run into this kind of thing. That woman seems a bit mentally unstable; I'll have to be careful if they start fighting later.'
As Havent had predicted, the beautiful woman finished her hysterical scream and coldly looked at the group surrounded by them, saying...
"Kill them all, and get rid of that damned bastard."
As the beautiful woman finished speaking, the masked men raised their weapons and advanced towards Havent and his group.
As the masked man slowly approached, brandishing swords and knives, Haven drew his longsword and pressed himself tightly against Ander.
"Ander, can you still run? Let's run into the woods later. I have some medicine with me; I can treat you once we've shaken off them."
Hearing Ander's incessant coughing, Haven turned to look at him. The burly Northern veteran was pale, blood gushing from his mouth. Seeing Haven looking at him, he gave a blood-stained smile.
"Will, I think I'm done for. I'll cover you, cough cough~ You should run. You're still young, you shouldn't die in this pointless battle."
Looking at Ander's resolute eyes, Haven's nose tingled with tears.
"By the way, Will, when you go to the Arma Line, you absolutely must visit Vine Street. The bathhouse maids there are absolutely amazing."
Having said that, he raised his steel spear, shouted loudly, and launched an attack on the masked man.
"Ander, 2nd Platoon, 4th Supply Battalion, 12th Regiment of the Arma Line, is launching an attack on the enemy!!!! Will!!!!!! Stay on track!!!!"
Ander held his spear forward, exuding an indomitable aura. Facing the sword slashing towards him, he neither dodged nor evaded, but instead used his broad shoulders to block it. He tilted his head, trapping the blade between his fingers, and the muscles in his arm bulged violently. The spear pierced through the masked man's body like a chopstick through tofu.
With a roar, Ander hurled the masked man, who was impaled on a spear, at the masked man beside him.
"Run! Will!"
