Chapter 208 Turning into a Dog
Chapter 208 Turning into a Dog
Truth serum.
One of the most difficult potions to brew in the magical world.
Even in the British magical community, there are very few pharmacists who can create this kind of potion.
Furthermore, due to the unique nature of this potion, similar to the Unforgivable Curse, the Ministry of Magic prohibits its misuse most of the time.
Every time it is used openly and legitimately, it needs to go through layers of approval, requiring the signatures of multiple high-ranking officials and the Venerable Wissengamo.
A potion with such stringent requirements for both its creation and use must have extraordinary effects.
Just one drop is enough to make even the most unyielding heroes tell the truth.
Of course, if this kind of potion is known in advance, it is easy to counter it.
People who know they are about to take a truth serum for a lie test can find a trustworthy accomplice to use a forgetting spell on them to change memories they don't want others to know.
Thus, when the person's own perception has changed, the truth serum loses its original effectiveness, and even if an answer is obtained, it is a carefully crafted lie.
Given the current situation, Severus knew that what Blake said was true, and that using the truth serum was simply to give Blake direct proof in the absence of other concrete evidence.
The sight of the seemingly transparent but subtly blue potion in Severus's hand drew the attention of everyone in the room.
“Once you drink it, we’ll ask you the same questions again and we’ll be able to prove whether you’re telling the truth or lying.”
Neither Lupin nor Black had ever seen the true form of the truth serum, but it wasn't strange that a renowned pharmacist like Severus would carry a bottle of it with him.
Looking at the bottle of potion and hearing Severus's words, Blake spoke first.
"How do I know this isn't a bottle of poison meant to kill me!"
He intended to use a sarcastic and indifferent tone, but the male announcer's voice came out excited and high-pitched, making Blake sound more like a cowardly rat clinging to life.
Severus simply shook his head at this.
"Do you think that now that you've reached this point, if I wanted to kill you, I would need to go through the trouble of using poison disguised as truth serum?"
His voice was calm, as if the words he spoke possessed a natural credibility.
"If I really wanted to kill you, I wouldn't have revealed that you didn't lay a hand on Harry. Instead, I would have used that to incite Remus and Harry's emotions, and under the guise of avenging Harry's parents, I could have finished you off directly. Why would I wait until now to trick you with a potion?"
Lupin also vouched for Severus.
"He won't poison you, I can assure you."
“The teacher never uses those underhanded methods!” Harry chimed in.
Only Snape, the ghost within Severus's body, stared intently at the bottle of truth serum in Severus's hand.
This bottle of medicine was indeed Truth Potion, but Ghost Snape had witnessed the whole thing, and Severus had mixed something into it beforehand.
That was indeed not poison, but...
After hearing their words, Blake remained silent for a few seconds before standing up and approaching Severus.
His intensely aggressive gaze never wavered as he stared back at Severus. Even though he was now the weaker party, essentially a loser, he still acted superior to his nemesis.
So, the haughty Blake opened his dog mouth at Severus.
Severus simply smiled as he raised the small vial of potion and then poured the entire vial into Black's mouth.
A drop of Truth Potion has the same effect as a whole bottle of Truth Potion, and Severus certainly wasn't about to waste such a priceless potion.
He indulged in this because there was indeed only one drop of truth serum in that bottle.
The truth serum quickly took effect on Blake.
His originally sharp gaze gradually became empty and confused, clearly indicating that he had entered a state of answering every question.
"You can ask."
As someone who already knew the whole truth, Severus naturally had little curiosity and instead handed over the right to "interrogate" to Lupin.
Lupin looked at Blake, whose eyes had glazed over, took a deep breath, and began to inquire about the past.
He asked each question in great detail.
This includes when Black suggested James transfer the Secretkeeper to Peter, how he found Peter after learning of the Potters' deaths, and what kind of internal Auror interrogation he initially faced within the Ministry of Magic after being captured by the Aurors.
After Black recounted the whole truth, not only did Lupin realize that Black was indeed innocent and blameless, but Harry also learned a lot about his parents' situation.
After everything was confirmed, Lupin looked visibly dazed.
For so many years, he still didn't understand what exactly happened that day. Of the four people who were originally fine, two died, one became a Death Eater and was imprisoned in Azkaban, leaving him alone to wander the wizarding world.
Of course, he had hated Blake countless times, and had countless doubts and puzzled himself: how could Blake be the traitor?
Now, the truth has finally come out!
“So…” Harry was also a little stunned, his breathing involuntarily becoming heavier, “He really is my godfather, and he didn’t betray my father. He’s been wronged all along!”
Severus patted Harry on the shoulder.
“That’s right. Although you can tell he’s a bit unreliable, he is indeed the closest relative your parents have designated in the world, besides your Aunt Penny’s family.”
However, Harry only paused for a moment before recovering. He looked at Black on the ground again and wrinkled his nose. His expression clearly showed that he didn't feel much affection for the big black dog after learning that Black was innocent.
Blake regained consciousness shortly afterward.
At this moment, Lupin was already squatting on the ground, helping him clean up the various drug residues and glass shards on his body.
After the man and the dog looked at each other like that, Lupin smiled and said.
"At this moment, why don't you change back to your human form, so we can have a hug to clear up the misunderstanding and reunite after a long separation?"
Blake's eyes softened noticeably. He stood up and stood there for a long time, as if he was straining his whole body but couldn't poop.
Lupin still looked at him expectantly, even gesturing with his hands outstretched, as if he was ready to give Blake a big hug as soon as he turned back into human form.
But the atmosphere became awkward at that moment.
It seemed that no matter how hard Blake tried, he could never turn back into a human!
The black dog's gaze immediately turned angrily to Severus.
"What did you give me to drink?!" Harry complained before Severus could even speak.
"What could a teacher possibly feed you! There must be something wrong with you! Why do you always blame the teacher no matter what happens to you!"
Harry's words left Black somewhat stunned.
At first, Black thought that Harry was so protective of Severus because he lacked the companionship of his family when he was young, so after this snotty-nosed boy showed him some small favors, he developed trust in him.
If he could truly clear his name and prove that he was qualified to be Harry's godfather, then Harry would definitely change his mind.
But reality slapped him in the face!
By this time, Severus had walked to his desk, where the potion bottles had been smashed to pieces by Blake, and there were hardly any intact bottles left.
Among the broken pieces of medicine bottles on the ground, he rummaged through them and quickly found a large bottle fragment.
Ghost Snape, inside Severus's body, stood with his arms tucked in, watching Severus put on this act with disdain.
Severus then solemnly showed Blake the label on the glass shard.
"This is a real potion, a niche formula that I obtained by chance. Its main function is to solidify the magic within a living organism."
The adult wizards present were not ordinary people. They had only heard about the potion's effects from Severus, and they basically understood what was going on!
"You mean, Sirius accidentally bumped into that potion of truth, and the potion hit him and took effect, causing his magic in Animagus form to be solidified?" Lupin asked, his eyes wide.
Severus shrugged.
"That's how it looks right now."
Black, however, stared at Severus with a suspicious look from beginning to end. Even though Harry retorted to his words, even without any evidence, just relying on his intuition, he felt that it was too much of a coincidence and that it was most likely related to Severus.
But of course, he has no evidence right now.
Blake is actually quite accepting of the fact that he can only act as a dog and not a human for the time being.
He didn't really care whether he was a human or a dog; sometimes, being a dog was actually more suitable for him to do things.
However, Harry's attitude towards him left Black somewhat resentful.
He clearly doesn't want anything else now; the only thing he wants to do is to change his image and status in Harry's eyes!
The Logara Forest, outside the cordon established by the Albanian Auror to seal off underground ruins.
Dressed as explorers, Barty and Perkins spotted the Aurors patrolling the area from afar.
"Are you sure your information is correct?" Perkins asked.
Little Barty simply said it casually.
"Information bought from underground channels is certainly not guaranteed to be accurate."
"What if we come all this way for nothing?"
Faced with this question, Batistuta simply focused on the two Albanian Aurors who were training together.
"This trip won't be in vain. These Aurors must know what's been going on in this forest lately. We just need to capture one of them."
"Capture an Auror?" Perkins was clearly uneasy.
Years ago, the Aurors' massive manhunt for Death Eaters left him with a persistent sensitivity towards Aurors.
Barty Jr. simply scoffed at this.
"What kind of talent do you think the Aurors of such a small country can attract, and what kind of rigorous training they can undergo?"
As he spoke, he gripped his wand, seizing the opportunity when the two Aurors turned their backs to them.
"You on the left, I on the right, use the Stunning Spell."
As Barty Jr.'s voice faded, Perkins, who had hesitated before, displayed the experience of a Death Eater dark wizard when it came to actually making his move.
"Collapse!"
Two red beams of light shot out simultaneously from the tips of their wands.
One of the Aurors was knocked to the ground without any reaction, while the other Auror even knew the Ironclad Charm. Barty's Stunning Charm only shattered his protective armor!
But before the Auror could nervously raise his wand to launch a firework signal into the sky, Barty the Younger cast a Silent Petrification Charm, instantly freezing him in place.
Seeing that the two men were dealt with so easily, Parkinson, who had been somewhat uneasy, immediately turned into a smug and gloating figure.
"This level of skill doesn't even deserve to be an Auror! Any random sixth-year student at Hogwarts in England is better than them!"
Barty Jr. didn't have time to chat with Perkins about these boring topics. He went to the two Aurors, stunned the petrified Auror with a Stunning Charm, and then began to use Legilimency on them.
Strands of silver threads were drawn from the Auror's mind and placed into a stone basin that Little Barty took out of his suitcase.
Those memories are chaotic and disordered, and in order to find what he wants from them, they naturally have to constantly screen and investigate.
Fortunately, the memories that Little Barty extracted were all recent experiences of these two Aurors, and before long, they made a discovery in these memories!
"It is Severus Snape!"
Upon seeing the scene from the Auror's memory—the scene when they first arrived in this restricted area in Severus—Perkins couldn't help but exclaim.
"Why is he here?! The French are looking for him everywhere, and he just quietly came to this forest!"
He also saw Barty the Younger from Severus, and a cold smile appeared on his lips.
"It would be even better if he were here."
Perkins swallowed hard and turned to look at Barty Jr.
"Is he also here to see his master?"
Little Barty simply said coldly.
"He came to find his master, but that doesn't necessarily mean he's loyal!"
