Chapter 160 Diary and Eyes (with illustrations, goosebumps warning)

She kicked open the study door, and there was nothing ambush inside, just as Jiang Ran remembered.

However, there are many things in the study, so where can I find an old diary?
Moreover, Xu Tian was the one who used the study later. If he found his childhood diary, he would probably just throw it away as trash. How could he possibly put it away properly?
Therefore, Jiang Man must have placed the diary in a place where it could be properly preserved without being easily discovered...

Jiang Ran thought for a moment and then turned her gaze to the old bookcase that seemed somewhat out of place with the study's decor.

That cabinet was made by her maternal grandfather for her mother. So even though the style was old and the paint was peeling, it was still placed in the study.

There was even a locked little box inside, used to store Jiang Man's childhood belongings.

Since Xu Tian wanted to play the role of a "good father" and "good husband," he naturally wouldn't refuse his daughter's request to keep her mother's belongings.

If Jiang Man were looking for something in the study to store Jiang Ran's diary, this box would be the most suitable.

Thinking about this, Jiang Ran couldn't help but feel a little ironic. Xu Tian wanted to be her "benevolent father," but in the end, he was also trapped in the shackles he had set for himself.

Jiang Ran gently opened the door at the bottom of the wooden cabinet, and sure enough, there was an antique sandalwood box inside, filling the space at the bottom of the cabinet completely.

Carefully carrying the large box, Jiang Ran took out a brass key from her pocket—this must have been the key Jiang Man had slipped into her bag while hugging her.

Jiang Man believed that her daughter could find out what she was talking about.

Jiang Ran took a deep breath and slowly used the key to unlock the brass lock.

The box was indeed filled with a bunch of random things, mostly handmade wooden toys, which were finely polished and painted with cute patterns. They were probably made by Jiang Ran's grandfather for his daughter to play with.

Below these odds and ends was the diary that Jiang Ran recognized all too well.

The pink cover is so vibrant it looks just like when it was first bought, and the little flowers on it are clearly Jiang Ran's handiwork from her childhood.

Looking at the crooked patterns and the meaningless tangled threads, Jiang Ran couldn't help but smile.

Strangely, as she opened the wooden box, her game panel popped up automatically, and a small radar appeared in the lower right corner.

Jiang Ran couldn't care less about that right now; she just wanted to see what was in the diary.

But when she turned to the first page, the smile on her face vanished completely.

Although the brushstrokes were very immature, the lines were crooked and most of the details were messy, but on the blank paper, there was a big eyeball.

From a child's perspective, they might simply have wanted to draw eyes, but accidentally drew them too big.

But Jiang Ran couldn't think that way.

Memories that had been forgotten seemed to gradually resurface upon seeing this "diary".

Why did she draw such an eyeball back then?

It seems that it was because Jiang Ran accidentally saw an eye like that...

Jiang Ran thought back carefully, and then she suddenly remembered a small thing.

She remembered that Jiang Man had once told her that when she was a child, there was a period of time when she absolutely refused to sleep in her own room, saying that someone was watching her.

Jiang Man initially thought it was just an excuse for the child not wanting to sleep separately from her mother, and she even tried staying in the room with Jiang Ran until she fell asleep before leaving.

Jiang Ran, however, did not accept this and instead cried and insisted on sleeping at Jiang Man's place.

Later, the entire villa was renovated. Due to the change in aesthetics during that period, Jiang Man requested that all the transparent glass in the windows be replaced with frosted glass.

After that, Jiang Ran seemed to slowly accept sleeping alone in her room. So, was she afraid back then because she actually saw eyes?
Jiang Ran took her diary and returned to her room, opening the window that faced the large bed.

Her pupils immediately contracted!
Outside the window... the clouds were hazy, and the moon, partially hidden beneath them, looked exactly like a strange eyeball, coldly staring at everyone!

Jiang Ran suddenly got goosebumps all over her body.

But anger followed.

Is all of this related to those big eyes?!

But how old was Jiang Ran back then? The Doomsday Train game didn't appear until much later!
Jiang Ran suppressed her turbulent emotions and continued reading.

Most of the drawings are meaningless flowing water, full of children's imagination and "realism".

But Jiang Ran soon discovered that almost every now and then, some pictures would appear that made her feel uneasy.

A giant octopus that takes up the entire sheet of paper, ants that are too delicate for a child's drawing skills, and a robot with shaky lines but whose general shape can still be discerned...

Jiang Ran felt that she might be being a bit paranoid; now, even seeing a simple tree made her wonder if it might have some other meaning.

She was so shocked when she flipped to the last page that she almost dropped the diary!

There's a drawing on it... of a beating heart.

Even though it's just a still image, and even the pencil marks are a bit blurry, if Jiang Ran stares at this simply drawn heart for a while, she feels like it's about to jump right out of the diary!
Jiang Ran slammed the diary shut, her mind a jumble of confusion.

What exactly is going on? !
She didn't believe that the initial eyeballs were just a coincidence; too many coincidences coming together could only make one feel a sense of destiny.

But what kind of destiny is this?
She was not even six years old at the time!
How could they possibly have come into contact with these so-called gods of Paro Island and grown up unharmed?!

Jiang Ran held the diary and slowly sat down on the edge of the bed, trying to figure out the relationship between them.

But something shocking happened again.

The diary flew out of Jiang Ran's hand and then embedded itself in the groove below her game panel!

Before Jiang Ran could react, a line of small words appeared in the air.

"Now, do you know what reality is?"

Jiang Ran suddenly raised her head, her gaze fierce as she looked around, and shouted angrily, "Playing tricks! Since you know the whole truth, why don't you dare to say it directly? Playing the riddle only makes you look like a coward!!"

The content of that line of small print has changed.

"You know better than anyone why I did this."

Jiang Ran gritted her teeth and said, "Should I know? How would I know? You've been behind all of this, haven't you? Who are you?!"

"Who I am is not important. What is important is that I am on your side. The world is not what you see. Once you have collected all ten pieces of truth, you will know what I want to tell you."

Jiang Ran looked down at the nearly filled groove and the incongruous pink stone tablet inside, unsure of what to think.

I think I saw and saved this image of the moon in a comment under a video by an up (uploader) named He Jinyin (if I remember correctly), so it's from the internet?

While writing this chapter, I suddenly remembered the goosebumps I had before, so I flipped through my photo album and found it.
