Chapter 52 Why are you hugging me?

Before leaving, Su Ruoyun turned back and glared at Qi Zhiwen standing by the wall. Then, without looking back, she walked towards the elevator. The numbers on the elevator display kept changing. She raised her finger and pressed the down button. Since the elevator had just arrived at the first floor, she would have to wait a while.

A short while later, Qi Zhiwen appeared in the corridor. Seeing the figure by the elevator, he raised an eyebrow, glanced around to make sure no one was there, and walked slowly toward Su Ruoyun. He stood beside her, clasped his hands in front of him.

He cleared his throat and slowly began, "Actually, it's not entirely my fault what happened last time. If you two hadn't been hanging out together all the time, I wouldn't have misunderstood and thought there was something going on between you two."

"..." Su Ruoyun.

She rolled her eyes, wanting to swear at someone, but considering that this was a municipal building, she swallowed the profanity that was on the tip of her tongue and just stared blankly at the floor number flashing on the display screen.

Qi Zhiwen was completely ignored. Seeing that she was not paying any attention to him, he felt bored and slowly strolled away.

……

That evening, Su Ruoyun invited Li Li to a bar for drinks. Su Ruoyun arrived before Li Li and ordered a bottle of Leroy Musigny.

The private room was dimly lit, creating a tranquil atmosphere. She held the slender stem of a wine glass between her fingers, gently swirling it as the crimson wine swayed back and forth. She took a sip of the red wine.

Li arrived late, plopped down next to her, reached for the wine bottle on the table, poured herself a glass of red wine, and her gaze lingered on the bottle for a moment, estimating that Su Ruoyun must have already drunk quite a bit.

"When you come to a bar, you drink."

Su Ruoyun took another small sip of red wine, the scarlet liquid sliding down the glass and leaving a few specks. Bored, she rested her chin on one hand and her elbow on the sofa armrest. "If we come to a bar and don't drink, what are we doing?"

Li Li gave her a thumbs up, his tone slightly teasing, "Okay, you're awesome."

After a few rounds of drinks, the bottle of Leroy Musigny was almost empty.

Su Ruoyun was almost drunk, leaning back lazily on the sofa, her eyes slightly hazy from the alcohol. "Stop letting your little cousin keep hanging around Xiaorong."

Li Li slumped on the table. Upon hearing this, his shoulders trembled slightly, he chuckled softly, raised his drunken eyes, and spread his hands: "How can I possibly control this?"

"Even if we can't control it, we have to." The woman's voice was stubborn.

The two drank for another ten minutes or so. When the Leroy Musigny bottle on the table was empty, they got up, left their seats, and walked out of the private room.

Standing at the elevator entrance, the two looked at the elevator display screen, waiting for the car to arrive.

Su Ruoyun crossed her right arm over her chest and let her left arm hang naturally. She hadn’t forgotten why she had asked Li Li to drink with her. “You know, there’s a guy who’s always by your side saying he likes you and keeps buying you things. You say you don’t need them, but he won’t listen. You can’t shake him off. He just has to stick around you.”

"Do you think... he might be sick, or rather, seriously sick?"

Hearing this, Li Li couldn't help but chuckle a few times, tilting his head, "Maybe... it depends on whether he's handsome or not. Haven't you heard the example? In the past, when a hero saved a damsel in distress, if the hero was handsome, the damsel would shyly say she wanted to repay him with her body. If the hero was average-looking, the damsel would say she wanted to be his slave to repay his kindness. If she was a damsel in distress, the hero would say, 'Does the lady really mean what she says?' If the lady wasn't pretty, the hero would say, 'Lady, you absolutely can't.'"

"If the guy is handsome, it just means he's too in love. If the guy is average-looking, then he's just plain crazy."

As the elevator made a crisp "ding" sound, the elevator doors slowly slid open. Su Ruoyun muttered softly, "Well, he's not bad looking."

The sound of the elevator arriving drowned out her words. Li Li frowned and looked at her in confusion: "What did you just say?"

"Nothing?" Su Ruoyun slowly lowered her eyes, her gaze falling on her empty hands. Suddenly remembering something, she abruptly said, "I forgot my car keys. You can go back first."

The elevator doors were already open. Li Li turned to look at Su Ruoyun, and seeing that she was awake, said, "Then I'm really leaving." She nodded and softly replied, "Okay."

Watching the elevator doors close, Su Ruoyun walked back to the private room. Sure enough, her Mercedes car keys lay quietly on the ebony coffee table.

She reached for the car keys, held them in her hand, and walked out of the private room again. The alcohol took effect, and her head became even more dizzy. She lowered her head, and her body unconsciously leaned against the wall. She held onto the wall with both hands and moved step by step.

As she reached the corner, the lights were dim and yellow, and Su Ruoyun bumped into a broad chest.

Before she could react to the sudden collision, she was knocked away again, crying out, "Ouch!"

The voice-activated light turned on immediately, instantly dispelling the darkness. Huo Jingcheng's vision became clear in the sudden light. When he saw the face of the person who had just appeared in front of him, he quickly reached out, grabbed Su Ruoyun's wrist, and pulled her towards him, supporting her shoulders to prevent her from falling to the ground in a disheveled manner.

The two were so close that Huo Jingcheng naturally smelled the strong scent of alcohol on her. "Have you been drinking?"

"Mmm." Su Ruoyun nodded gently, her head swaying slightly with a hint of drunken languor, her voice soft, "I...I only drank a little bit."

As she spoke, she stretched out her index finger and thumb, trying to indicate the length of 'a little bit', but her head was spinning, causing her to lose her aim, and the distance between the two fingers was clearly more than 'a little bit'.

Huo Jingcheng's gaze fell on her, and seeing her silly, drunken appearance, he couldn't help but smile.

Seeing this, Su Ruoyun tilted her head to one side, her round almond-shaped eyes filled with a hint of confusion and intoxication, staring unblinkingly at him, as if trying to identify who the man in front of her was.

Huo Jingcheng asked her, "Do you recognize who I am?"

As soon as she finished speaking, Su Ruoyun nodded like a chick pecking at rice.

"Who?" He leaned closer and asked in a low voice.

She muttered something under her breath, as if to say "pervert".

Huo Jingcheng's face instantly darkened.

He looked at the woman in front of him who had called him a pervert, his brows furrowing slightly. He placed his left hand on her elbow, knowing she couldn't possibly be out drinking alone. His voice was low and restrained as he asked, "Where's your friend?"

"I'm home," she replied softly.

"how about you?"

Su Ruoyun shook her head, looking completely bewildered and innocent. "I don't know."

"..." Huo Jingcheng.

He felt another headache coming on.

Su Ruoyun struggled to break free from his hand, but unexpectedly staggered a few times and instantly lost her balance.

In her panic, she instinctively grabbed his shirt with both hands and wrapped her arms around his waist to prevent herself from falling.

After a long pause, she suddenly blurted out, "You're a pervert, why are you hugging me?"
