Chapter 13, Part 13: The Trial Ends

"That's a servant-level demon... Its fur is as thick as leather armor, and its skull is as hard as a rock. Even a low-level mage's fireball might not be able to break through its defenses immediately..." Pan Lijun muttered to herself, "He's relying on a cold weapon?"

“A pulley compound bow,” Zhan Kong said in a low voice. “Isn’t this supposed to be a folk toy? But the one he has looks like a heavily modified version.”

Before he finished speaking, Chen Hao had already walked towards the crowd with the blue bracelet he had entrusted.

"Chief Instructor, mission accomplished. As for the defensive magic items, just give me cash in return," Chen Hao said with a smile.

Zhan Kong looked at the wolf's head on the ground, then at the large pulley bow that was still inside his back, raised an eyebrow, and finally couldn't help but ask:

"how did you do it?"

"Thanks to this divine weapon of mine, paired with fine iron arrows, taking down a servant with a single arrow is no dream. So, anyone interested in buying it? It's not expensive, only five million. Bring home a high-damage magical weapon that can continuously kill servants, much cheaper than other demon-slaying tools of the same level." Chen Hao patted the iron bow on his back, his mind racing, and began to promote it.

"You little brat, are you robbing me? You're asking for 500 million for a piece of junk? And even a mid-level mage couldn't draw that thing, could he?" Another middle-aged officer pointed it out directly. He clearly knew about bows and could tell from the appearance of the bow arm that the draw weight must be extremely ridiculous.

“Even a mid-level mage can’t pull it apart, isn’t that enough to prove how excellent my craftsmanship is?” Chen Hao said matter-of-factly.

"Is it that powerful? Let me try." Zhan Kong took Chen Hao's iron bow.

My first impression upon holding it was how heavy it was, weighing a full seventy pounds. I gripped the bowstring tightly and exerted force, but the bowstring didn't budge at all, showing no sign of starting the bow. I almost dislocated my shoulder blade trying to draw it, but I still couldn't get it to open, which was quite embarrassing.

"This thing isn't for human use." Zhan Kong coughed, his serious expression crumbling.

However, as soon as he finished speaking, Chen Hao put two fingers on the string and easily drew the bow, pulling and releasing it repeatedly several times.

Chen Hao smiled slightly, his movements as relaxed as if he were showing off a child's toy. The bowstring made a "click-clack" sound as it turned between his fingers, and the metallic texture and the murderous aura that suddenly appeared sent chills down the spines of many people present.

"It's not that difficult," he said casually, but it sent chills down one's spine. If such a terrifying tension were to slip out of one's hand or cause the bow to explode, the explosive force could easily take a person's life.

Zhan Kong stared at him for several seconds before finally sighing, "Your physique is truly outrageous... practically inhuman. You could tear demons apart with your bare hands."

Chen Hao grinned: "A natural talent, there's nothing I can do about it."

"Kid, interested in joining the military? I'll protect you from now on," Zhan Kong asked with interest.

"Joining the military is out of the question. Someone as awesome as me would be wasting my time joining any other faction. But Chief Instructor, how about investing in a future God of Magic in advance? I'll be able to protect you in less than ten years." Chen Hao smiled frivolously, implying that he was letting the other person profit.

"Heh, you brat, you're full of nonsense, you really don't know your place. Fine, that's settled then. You three, consider yourselves to have passed together. I'll have someone send you the money in a couple of days," Zhan Kong said helplessly.

The Ghost Wolf Beast is dead, but the others' assessments are not yet over, so they have to find another controllable demon to deal with.

……

And so, Chen Hao, Mo Fan, and Zhang Xiaohou ended their training ahead of schedule and were sent back to Anjie with excellent results.

"Hey Chen Hao, what you said before about teaming up to hunt monsters, does that still count?" Mo Fan suddenly asked on the way back to Bo City.

The two-year agreement actually put a lot of pressure on him. He was only at the second level of the initial stage of fire and the first level of the initial stage of lightning. The little mudfish was no different from an ordinary stardust magic weapon. The only way to improve the little mudfish was to devour essence.

Unfortunately, he was still unable to fight against servant-level demons alone, but Chen Hao's powerful strength gave him hope.

Upon hearing this, Chen Hao's lips curled up slightly; he had finally taken the bait.

"Of course, would I lie to you?" Chen Hao smiled, his tone relaxed and confident. "And Zhang Xiaohou, don't worry, I won't abandon you just because you don't have much fighting power right now. In future team battles, someone has to be in charge of cheering you on, right?"

Hearing this, Zhang Xiaohou felt a warmth in his heart and a surge of gratitude. "Thank you, Brother Hao. I will definitely do my part."

Mo Fan subconsciously breathed a sigh of relief, but Chen Hao's voice rang out again soon after. "Mo Fan, if I'm not mistaken, what you're wearing around your neck is a necromancer, isn't it?"

Mo Fan was taken aback. Was the little mudfish a vessel of the dead?

"What is a necromancer vessel?" Mo Fan asked, puzzled.

"A necromancer is a magical artifact that can hold souls; usually, only necromancers can make them," Chen Hao explained.

"I see." Mo Fan nodded, hesitated for a moment, and then chose to conceal the fact that the little mudfish was also a soul-repairing artifact. "That's right, I once used this thing to absorb the remnants of demons, but I didn't know it was a vessel for the dead."

"That's great! We'll have another source of income from hunting demons. A fragment of a soul can sell for 10,000. If we can get a full soul, we'll be rich!" Chen Hao said excitedly.

"Brother Fan, you actually have such a good thing?" Zhang Xiaohou was also very happy.

"It's a family heirloom, a family heirloom..." Mo Fan sighed helplessly. He had thought he could get free spirit essence by teaming up, but he didn't expect Chen Hao to be after him as well.

Indeed, there is still much for me to learn. Others can see through my shortcomings at a glance, while I have no knowledge at all.

It's a win-win situation, I suppose.

……

That evening, Zhan Kong transferred 500,000 yuan directly to Chen Hao's card.

That night, Chen Hao was so excited that he barely slept.

This was the first pot of gold he earned in the magical world.

He may earn more in the future, but this income is of great significance.

The next morning, Chen Hao told his father the good news.

"Dad, I'm thinking of getting you a new car," he said with a smile, placing the card on the coffee table.

"What would we need that for? We already have a car at home," Chen Hongsheng replied casually while flipping through the newspaper.

“That old pickup truck has been running for over ten years; it should have been retired long ago. Take my advice, get a new one; it’ll be more worry-free and safer.”

Chen Hongsheng frowned, but still waved his hand: "Sigh, no need. Learning magic will cost you a lot of money. Keep this money for yourself. Dad doesn't have much ability and can't help you much in the future, so don't worry about the family anymore."

"Dad," Chen Hao said, his tone becoming more serious, "money is meant to be spent, not saved up to suffer."

He gently pushed the card in front of his father, saying, "I can earn money on my own now, and I'm sure I'll earn even more in the future. Don't worry about saving money; you've worked hard enough over the years."

Chen Hongsheng paused for a moment, then finally didn't refuse. He just sighed softly and put the card in his pocket.

"...Okay, I'll do as you say."

He didn't say much, but his gaze softened considerably.

A sense of peace, unlike anything he had ever felt before, welled up in Chen Hao's heart.

This was the first thing he truly did for his family after he came into this world.
