Chapter 83 Stealing food
The next morning.

Knowing that he was injured, Song Yi had been relatively restrained these past few days, but she still unconsciously clung tightly to Jiang Lanye in the middle of the night.

Jiang Lanye looked at her hair, which was messy again after a night, and even a little frizzy. He couldn't help but reach out and gently smooth the sticking-up strands of hair.

Then, he got up and quietly put on his court robes, preparing to go to court.

Now that I'm leaving today, I'm afraid it will be a long time before I return. The ministers are worried every day, and I'm sure there are many troublesome matters to attend to.

After Jiang Lan left that night, Song Yi slept for a long time.

She only woke up when she tried to put her arm on Jiang Lanye and touched something cold.

She looked up and saw that Jiang Lanye was not in the Golden Palace, so she knew that he had gone to court.

Outside the palace, a palace maid brought in warm water to help Song Yi wash up.

Her hair was practically standing on end, but she was too lazy to comb it and planned to wait for Jiang Lanye to come back so he could help her comb it.

After the palace maid left, she brought in breakfast.

Song Yi was taken aback and asked, "Isn't His Majesty coming back?"

"His Majesty specifically instructed before he left that he would be returning a little late today, and that Your Highness should have breakfast first and not wait for him."

After she finished speaking respectfully, she withdrew.

Song Yi looked at the table full of food but had no appetite.

With Jiang Lanye gone, he felt incredibly bored in the Golden Palace, with no one to talk to.

She ate a few bites hastily, changed into a new dress, and sat down on the low couch by the window. Sunlight streamed in, and she squinted, casually picking up one of Jiang Lanye's books to read.

Palace servants passed by the window at any time. Song Yi opened the window and saw Eunuch Cao.

"Eunuch Cao, why didn't you go to the morning court with His Majesty?"

She peeked out slightly, and everyone was startled, not expecting the Imperial Concubine to speak by the window.

Eunuch Cao hurried over and said, "Your Highness, this is dangerous."

Song Yi was speechless and choked with emotion.

"I'm so short, I won't even twist my ankle."

"You haven't answered me yet."

Eunuch Cao said, "His Majesty took others with him and specifically instructed me to keep an eye on Her Majesty outside the palace. Is there something you need, Her Majesty?"

Song Yi suddenly grinned, revealing her teeth. "Yes, I'm bored."

Eunuch Cao:
He suddenly took a few steps back, ordered a few palace maids, and said, "You few, go and chat with the Imperial Concubine."

Several palace maids timidly approached.

Although they were in charge of the food and daily life in the Golden Palace, they had hardly ever spoken a few words to this Imperial Concubine. In addition, she was always confined in the Golden Palace and did not have much contact with the palace servants below.

Therefore, these palace maids were somewhat afraid of her.

Song Yi sat cross-legged, separated from them by a window, and asked with a smile, "Have you had breakfast yet?"

A simple and unpretentious question.

The group exchanged glances, and seeing Song Yi's radiant smile, like a little sun in the sky, they suddenly understood why His Majesty couldn't live without her.

One person mustered up the courage to say, "I've already eaten. I even had some crispy mountain this morning."

As soon as she finished speaking, a palace maid next to her pinched her.

Song Yi's eyes lit up: "Crispy Mountain?"

She seemed to have heard of it; it was something like fine, soft crushed ice piled up into a small mountain, placed in a bowl, and drizzled with honey or jam.

Summer is over, aren't you cold?

The palace maid hesitated and said, "Actually, it's not that cold."

Song Yi clasped her hands together and said earnestly, "I also want to eat. I didn't eat much for breakfast. Could you go to the imperial kitchen and get me a bowl?" The maidservant said "okay" in a daze.

Song Yi hurriedly said, "Go quickly and come back quickly. I will wait for you here before His Majesty returns."

They would naturally obey the Imperial Concubine's words, and besides, it wasn't anything important.

After the palace maid left, Song Yi closed the window temporarily.

The palace maid moved quickly. She handed the crispy mountain to Song Yi, who hurriedly ran to the table to get a spoon, sat back down, scooped out a large spoonful, and stuffed it into her mouth.

Sometimes people are strange; the colder the weather, the more they crave cold food, and they only feel satisfied when they're shivering and their jaws are clenched.

Song Yi didn't intend to finish the whole thing; he only ate half. Just as he was thinking of taking one last bite, a sound suddenly rang out from outside the hall.

"See Your Majesty."

Song Yi: "!"

She hurriedly opened the window, wanting to ask a palace maid to help her get it.

But Jiang Lanye, having overheard something from Eunuch Cao, strode quickly towards Song Yi after opening the door.

Looking up, I saw Song Yi pressed against the window, half her body leaning out, her arm outstretched, doing something I couldn't tell.

Jiang Lanye looked at her indifferently and stepped forward directly—

Suddenly, an arm came across Song Yi's waist. Before she could react, Jiang Lanye easily pulled her back by wrapping his arms around her waist and then slammed the window shut.

Song Yi held a half-eaten crispy mountain in her hand, with a bit of jam still on the corner of her mouth, and looked blankly at Jiang Lanye.

“Song, Yi”.

He was only gone for one morning, and in the blink of an eye, she was about to tear the roof off.

Song Yi placed the things on the table with trembling hands, then suddenly raised her arms to encircle his neck, pulled him down a little, and then kissed him.

I also smeared some jam on his chin.

is sweet.

Jiang Lanye wiped away the little bit of jam with his fingertip, narrowed his eyes, and was about to speak when Song Yi preemptively said, "Why are you back so late? I specially saved this for you to eat, but you were so late that I thought it would be a waste for it to melt, so I ate a little bit."

Jiang Lanye stared coldly at the bowl of ice, which was already more than half empty, and asked in a deep voice, "A little bit?"

Song Yi looked directly at him, refusing to change her answer: "A little."

Just as she was about to continue explaining, she suddenly smelled a faint, almost imperceptible, pungent odor of blood.

Her pupils trembled slightly as she murmured, "Jiang Lanye, why do you smell of blood?"

Seeing that she was frightened, Jiang Lanye moved aside slightly.

After the morning court session, he went to interrogate the assassin. The Ministry of Justice was very capable, and he stayed inside for a long time, so he inevitably picked up some of the smell.

She had originally planned to take a bath after returning, so as not to frighten Song Yi, but as soon as she arrived outside the palace, she heard Eunuch Cao say that she was secretly eating something.

Jiang Lanye didn't care about anything else and walked in to grab her.

Song Yi asked, "You went to see that assassin? How did it go? What did he say?"

Jiang Lanye said, "Don't change the subject."

Song Yi quickly sat up, wanting to kiss him again.

Jiang Lanye dodged away, his expression cold.

"I was wrong, I was wrong, I just had a sudden craving."

"The imperial physician clearly stated that you cannot eat cold food."

Song Yi used the same trick again, grabbing his dragon robe sleeve and shaking it.

"It's just this once, it's okay, the weather isn't that cold right now."
