Chapter 607 Avengers Base
Chapter 607 Avengers Base
Peter slept soundly after returning home. Uncle Ben and Aunt May had gone to Pittsburgh because they were worried about retaliation for the massacre. Now, Peter was all alone in the Parker family.
This meant he could simply take a shower in the middle of the day and go straight to sleep, waking up whenever he wanted. He lay down on the bed and slept straight until the next day, then checked his phone for news and updates on the Avengers.
After confirming that nothing particularly noteworthy had happened, Peter went about his usual routine of washing his face and brushing his teeth, then began to think about what to do that day. He also started scrolling through his phone, looking at a message from Mark Murdoch on Spider-Man's phone, informing him that Electro had been sentenced; thanks to Mark's relentless efforts, the guy had finally been sentenced to death.
Ironically, the reason this person was sentenced to death is likely because he is a mutant.
Mysterio and Rhino were not sentenced to death; they are currently being held in the mansion prison—a temporary facility for superpowered individuals after the abandoned island prison was decommissioned. This is a standard high-tech prison, shrunk by Pym particles and placed inside Avengers Tower for security.
At this point, Peter frowned, then, considering that he had nothing else to do today, decided to go to Avengers Tower. He immediately summoned Anti-Venom as his suit, then, after checking his empty watch, decided to go to Baxter Tower first to replenish his nanobots.
A few minutes later, Tony Stark, sitting on a sofa in Avengers Tower, was swiping something on a virtual projection. Only Iron Man was on duty at Avengers Base today; the others had gone to capture prisoners who had escaped from the raft. The Avengers discovered that the escaped Abomination had been spotted near Arizona, so Captain America, along with Hulk and Thor, went to capture him.
Black Panther was busy with his own things as always; Hank and Janet had gone to an academic conference, leaving Tony alone. But then he saw a portal open, and without a second thought, he knew Spider-Man had arrived.
Good morning, kid. You've been quite busy lately, haven't you?
"Huh? Are you alright?"
Upon hearing the word "okay," Tony looked up at Peter with a slightly tense expression, then pushed the virtual projector in his hand outwards, instantly expanding the projection to fill the entire room. Tony leaned forward, picked up a glass of vegetable juice, and asked Peter while drinking it, "What do you think of the current design drawings?"
"Is this... the Avengers base?"
Peter looked at the projected buildings and asked, knowing that Stark had bought a large tract of land in New Jersey and planned to build an Avengers base there large enough to house hundreds of people. Captain America had been quite critical of this, but Tony insisted that even if the hundreds of people weren't needed, the Avengers still needed a new base.
Avengers Tower, as a witness to the Battle of New York and the founding of the Avengers, certainly holds great significance. However, on the other hand, its location is too good to be true—it's situated in the heart of Midtown Manhattan, a densely populated and economically developed area. Avengers Tower is like a perfect target; if an enemy decides to attack it, it could easily cause massive collateral damage.
Although New York also has Xavier's School for Gifted Children, Baxter Building, and a host of other landmarks.
"Yes, I'm thinking about the decorating style. You know, nobody seems to care much about it—except for Little Bumblebee, but her views are so different from mine, so I wanted to ask what you think, Peter?"
Peter carefully examined the Avengers base's layout: living quarters, training grounds, warehouses, hangars, laboratories, and even a museum. After a moment's thought, he tore down most of the building's exterior walls: "Leaving aside the rooms inside, how about replacing the exterior walls with glass as much as possible?" "Modern minimalist style—not bad. Should the base have more straight lines or curves?"
"Do the Avengers need so many curves?"
Stark laughed. The straight lines and curves in architecture can reflect the attitudes of the architect. And as Peter said, they are the Avengers, not some Justice League or anything like that. They want to show the enemy the price of invasion, so they don't need so many curves, they don't need so much softness.
"Okay... then what's next..."
"Speaking of which, Mr. Stark, once the Avengers base is completed, will the mansion prison also be moved there?"
Tony didn't pay much attention to why Peter mentioned the mansion prison, but he still answered the question honestly: "Well, we've been thinking about stronger hard isolation measures. We're considering whether we can build a new prison in the negative wave zone if the anti-Earth that Osborn mentioned is safe enough. The only connection between the two sides is a teleportation portal, guarded by robots. In the event of an escape, the portal will be automatically shut down."
The negative wave zone is full of antimatter. Apart from specially constructed prisons, there are no safe zones. If prisoners try to escape, they will be blown to smithereens by antimatter.
But the question is whether that anti-Earth was formed naturally or something else, whether there is life and civilization on it, and what their attitude is.
And most importantly, when exactly will Reed Richards be able to develop a portal to the negative wave zone?
"So, if we can't build a negative-wave zone prison after the Avengers base is completed, then yes, we might have to bring the mansion with us."
[Sir, unnatural waves have appeared off the coast of New York, exceeding 30 meters in height.]
Jarvis's sudden prompt interrupted their conversation. Peter and Tony looked at the incoming video signal. A shirtless man with pointed ears was riding the waves, followed by hundreds of high-tech underwater soldiers heading towards the waters off New York.
"I'm pretty sure the Sky Sword Bureau detected that the firing location wasn't in any city of Atlantis, and they sent a message, but didn't get a reply."
“And I’m even more certain that the shell didn’t hit the seabed at all; Mar-Vell’s calculations were spot on.” Tony said, starting to put on his armor. “Let’s go check it out, kid. Maybe he’s just saying hello—if he’s really that friendly.”
