Chapter 583 Slaughter and Silence
Over the next few days, Peter contacted the Avengers, the Fantastic Four, and the X-Men, requesting their assistance in obtaining any help needed to combat Carnage. It seemed everyone had some free time lately, so they launched a series of investigations into Carnage.

After all, supervillains are a dime a dozen, but psychopathic serial killers are a rare breed.

This is truly a reversal of the natural order.

But so far there has been no further news.

"I'm starting to suspect that Carnage just ran away with his bucket and never even left New York, and he never intended to kill me or Venom." Squatting on the rooftop eating a completely inauthentic takoyaki, Peter sighed helplessly. He wasn't in New York on Earth 616 anymore, but at the Spider-Man League's headquarters. Logically, the Spider-Man League should have quite a few Japanese Spider-Men, yet they couldn't even make a decent takoyaki.

Before his disappearance, Cletus committed four murders in New York. The one at the funeral home was the most numerous and the most hasty. In the other places, although there were only two or three victims, the gruesome scenes and the "artistic level" of the murders were far more serious. It could even be said that those were Cletus's true killing style.

It's just unlikely that anyone will like it.

Are you sure you want to talk about this while eating?

Gwen squatted down next to Peter and said, then shrugged: "Anyway, the news has been suppressed now. My dad said he was really disgusted by that case for a long time, and there were even other cases afterward, and what's worse, he was still in charge of them."

"Looking at it another way, Uncle George is going to get promoted again, isn't he?"

Things are just so bad in New York. After the NYPD fired 23% of its officers and downsized by 15%, the major reshuffle at the top is still going on. More and more police chiefs and high-ranking officers are being found to have quid pro quo relationships with various underworld forces in New York, and then the city government is quick to fire them—undoubtedly, they probably didn't pay the mayor enough.

This has led to another vacancy in the NYPD's senior management, requiring a large number of capable and strong officers to fill the vacancies. Although George Stacy has been promoted for less than a year, he seems to have been put back on the promotion list due to his outstanding character and abilities.

Or perhaps the NYPD really does have very few people left.

"Let's... change the subject, the damn massacre."

Gwen grumbled unhappily; what she wanted to say was the same thing Cindy had planned to say on their last date. If they could, they really wanted to go out and have fun. By "go out," she meant to travel to different parallel universes. In these endless universes, the spider totem existed in different eras.

If there hadn't been the massacre, they could have gone to see Shakespeare's performances in the 16th century, visited local castles and knights in the Middle Ages, and explored the American West in the 19th century.

Because of the massacre, all of this was ruined.

In fact, Peter came to the Spider-Man headquarters for Carnage's sake. On one hand, he wanted to gather intelligence from the Spider-Men who had fought Carnage to see if there were any good solutions. On the other hand, he wanted to see if any Spider-Men had been to Klinta, so that he could directly learn how the symbiote's Hive Mind Network worked.

In addition, he had previously discovered in the library of Kamar-Taj that "the Living Abyss and the Web of Fate have similarities in their expansion across the multiverse," and he planned to contact the Alliance to see how their research on the Web of Fate was progressing and if they could offer any assistance.

"There's a new development."

Miguel walked over, talking as he went. Peter, who was eating takoyaki, quickly swallowed it down. "Really? What's going on? The model's done? Also, you guys really need to find a suitable takoyaki chef. Can't you find a Spider-Man who can make takoyaki in the infinite multiverse? We even have Jonah Jameson Spider-Man." Are you angrier about Jonah Jameson or about not having good takoyaki...?

Miguel sighed inwardly at Peter Parker and continued, "The model of the Web of Fate is not so easy to complete. Although you say that the Web of Fate and the consciousness network of the symbiote are very similar, the Web of Fate is different from the original design. It was not designed for the Hive Mind. It has undergone a lot of fine-tuning."

Miguel first dashed Peter's initial thought, then explained the second: "We do have a few Spider-Men who have been to Klinta, and it's a... pretty good place, but they declined your invitation after hearing that you have Klinta's consciousness sealed within you and that you have Anti-Venom. So we had to rely on the local Spider-Men to help collect the data."

"All right……"

Peter wasn't entirely unprepared for this outcome, but he was still a little disappointed upon hearing it. However, he quickly recovered and said, "Wait, if you put it that way, it can't be all bad news, right?"

"Well, there is some news, but it's not entirely good news."

After Miguel finished speaking, he looked at Peter: "Do you still remember the so-called Spider Gods? Some of the most terrifying beings in the Spider Legion?"

"I know, what's wrong?"

"In the multiverse, there exist 'Slaughter Spider-Men' and 'Venom Spider-Men,' and if these Slaughter Spider-Men fail to resist the corruption that leads to their own demise, they will become berserk symbiote warriors. And that's not all; among the Spider-Gods is a 'Black Emperor' Spider-Man..."

Peter immediately connected all of this.

"So when the Web Corps recruited these Venom Spider-Men or Carnage Spider-Men, and they agreed, the Black Emperor Spider-Man gave them enhanced powers, and the enhanced Spider-Men exhibited the Carnage traits I mentioned."

After going around in circles, Peter finally understood what Miguel was trying to say: "And these guys will absolutely, absolutely not run away like they did when they couldn't win. If we take down just one of them, we can get the right sample and liberate a universe along the way."

Miguel nodded.

"Yes, we have several alternative universes. Take a look, and the choice is yours whether to go or not."

Peter looked at the universes, most of which he didn't recognize, except for one: a universe that, in its struggle against the symbiote crisis, gradually became irritable and corrupted, and finally chose to accept the symbiotes.

Peter knew about this world; it came from a game called Spider-Man: Shadow Web.

"It's him."

I feel like my sluggishness is really bad...
