Chapter 542 Awakening the Monster
“It absolutely cannot be Tony Stark. Even if I don’t know him well, I know that if you look him in the eye, he will die on the spot.”

Strange immediately rejected Johnny's idea to awaken Tony. They now had a trump card: Ghost Rider's Judgment Eye could awaken the truth of the soul. However, there was a problem: the souls of the guilty would be directly judged and thus die.

How many people can truly say their souls are pure and innocent? Even if Ghost Rider lowers the standards of judgment, many people will still feel guilty deep down.

So Strange rejected the process of waking up the person who seemed most important. Tony Stark might be the least suitable person to be awakened, but Johnny, sitting on the sofa in the Sanctum Sanctorum, asked helplessly, "Then who should we wake up first?"

"What about King T'Challa? The Wakanda Empire is one of the few countries in the world that can still maintain its stability, and he is of good character."

Peter suggested a candidate: Wakanda, one of Kang's powerful overlords, not only possessed formidable strength, but its King T'Challa was also a former Avenger. Faced with Kang's conscription demands, Wakanda had consistently avoided conscription by exporting various resources, thus preserving more of its power.

If they intend to oppose Kang, they will need an army, or at least one to help them hold off a large number of miscellaneous troops, and the Wakanda Empire seems like a good option.

Upon hearing this, Logan couldn't help but complain, "In that case, perhaps Magneto, that bastard, could also be given a try. Just let him see it."

Magneto?

Johnny opened a bottle of beer and couldn't help but ask, "Isn't Magneto a racial fanatic? Wouldn't that guy be sent to hell if someone even looked at him?"

“I think he’ll feel that everything he did was just. Besides, there’s no harm in dying.” Logan shrugged, then sighed helplessly. The others exchanged glances and continued their reasoning.

First, Wakanda is an option, then who.

“We might be able to bring in the Defenders. At the very least, they have a lot of combat experience, and if we’re talking about it, they can deal with Kingpin while we’re dealing with Kang. That guy is a considerable threat.”

Peter calmly explained that although the main enemy was Kang, as the controller of New York City, where Kang's mothership was located, and who also controlled Kingpin from seven eras, there would likely be some troublesome situations. Therefore, they needed the Defenders League.

"Don't we still have Captain America?"

Johnny, halfway through his sentence, realized what he was doing and asked the two Avengers present, "If that's the case, why don't we just pull Captain America up?"

"Well, the captain's history has been altered. He's almost ninety years old now, so even if you wake him up, he's still an old man, and we can't count on him."

Peter responded somewhat awkwardly. Johnny hadn't expected this, and couldn't help but scratch his hair. But then he thought of Banner's situation: "Maybe it's not like that? Look, I turned Banner back into the Hulk. Maybe I can turn Captain America back into a super soldier."

Logan couldn't help but add.

“Even without superpowers, Steve is an exceptional tactician, and we need him.” As everyone continued discussing what to do, Bruce Banner, who had been lying on the sofa, suddenly stood up.

“Guys, I have something to say. I know you think the world is a mess right now, that you need to get everything back on track, but… until you succeed, even if it’s just for a short while, you don’t have to… bother me.”

After saying this, Banner looked at everyone and fell silent. Looking at him, he sat down with some frustration and dejection: "I know, I know you need Hulk, but... I'm sorry, I could have just waited for you to save the world without knowing anything, and then gone back to my terrible life without remembering any of this."

Johnny shut his mouth because waking Banner was Mephisto's order, not his own choice. From one perspective, waking Hulk was indeed not very ethical, and from another perspective, they did need fighting power, but they did not consider Banner's feelings.

Just as Logan was about to say something, Peter spoke first, but he asked Banner a question.

"Dr. Banner, I want to ask, when the Avengers and the Earth Alliance went to stop Kang, was it Hulk at that time?"

"Yes, back then everyone needed monsters."

"Because of Spider-Man, Kang didn't have enough time to carefully adjust all the details of reality. He had to achieve all of this in the simplest way possible, which was to create a world where the rebels could find satisfaction."

Strange didn't finish his sentence, but Banner understood what he meant. He asked Strange with some disbelief, "Wait, you mean, I'm like this because of Hulk's wish?"

"Hulk wishes he had never been born? Good heavens, I thought I was the only one who thought that."

Banner couldn't help but laugh, but Strange just looked at him: "I'm a sorcerer, Dr. Banner. If you need, I can let you talk to the consciousness inside you face to face, if it's really as Mephisto said, that Hulk and you have become two souls."

“No, that’s not necessary.” Banner refused outright, then thought for a few seconds before standing up again. “Never mind, I’ll talk to the big guy alone. Um, Dr. Strange? Do you have a psychiatric consultation room here?”

"Come with me, Doctor."

After Banner left, Peter and the other two remained silent for a while. Then Peter couldn't help but ask Johnny, the Mephisto expert, a crucial question: "What does Mephisto want the Hulk or Banner's soul for? To raise a Hell Hulk?"

"I don't know, but he certainly didn't come to Earth for just this. He must have done something else before he was driven away by the Sorcerer Supreme, but we don't know what it is yet."

Johnny shook his head helplessly: "I guess the things he did before were in the world before the Cosmic Cube modified it, which is why he needs us to restore everything."

"As for what to do next, we can only take it one step at a time."

I'm having some writer's block, so the second chapter might be a little late, but I'll post it before 7 PM.
