I'm working on Marvel's Spider-Man in American comics.
Chapter 530 Otto, you've lost.
Chapter 530 Otto, you've lost.
If Peter wanted to, Otto Octavia would never enter his consciousness.
It has nothing to do with the spider totem. The spider totem protects the patriarch's totem, and it doesn't care who the patriarch is. Therefore, it can accept either Ultimate Spider-Man or Spider-Man.
It has nothing to do with Gnar. Gnar is looking forward to Peter Parker's death. If someone like Velasco were to take control of this body, he would be aware of Gnar's presence and take countermeasures. But Otto Octavia would not know this.
Peter simply knew the story of Ultimate Spider-Man, and he had learned magic, enabling him to defend against such attacks from the soul at any time.
However, he still allowed Otto into his consciousness, because—
Otto, perfectly flawless, took a punch from Peter and staggered backward. Otto realized what had happened; it was Peter Parker's consciousness defending against his intrusion.
So what?
His past, every bit of it from his soul, passed through Otto's consciousness. Otto saw everything about this man named Peter Parker, and after realizing what kind of being he was, he also threw a punch at him.
You're just luckier than me!
Having witnessed Peter's entire life, Otto roared and charged forward. He had no symbiote suit, no spider abilities, nothing at all; all that existed here was a pure mental battle.
Not only could he see Peter Parker's life, but Peter could also see Otto's life.
I saw his extraordinary talent in his youth, his dedication as a university associate professor after graduation, and how he was found by Osborn and joined Osborn Technologies after failing his professorship evaluation.
And what he already knew: the story of Otto being kicked out.
"You were just lucky to be bitten by that spider! If it were me, I could have done better!"
Otto continued speaking, rushing towards Peter. He saw more, saw into the depths of Peter's soul, things that no one else knew.
He punched Peter in the face, seemingly breaking something.
Otto almost burst into laughter.
"You're just like me! You don't belong here either! Your soul comes from another world, doesn't it?"
He laughed wildly, grabbed Peter by the collar, and threw punch after punch.
"If that's the case! What makes you think you're superior? Why can't I do better than you? I have more knowledge than you! I'm smarter than you! You're a good-for-nothing, indecisive guy who's just a Peter Parker!"
"You're not even really Spider-Man!"
Otto stopped punching because he had smashed the other man's face.
Beneath that face was not another face, not the face of someone else, not Peter Parker.
That's Spider-Man's mask.
"I'm sorry, Otto."
What is he apologizing for?
“I’m so sorry we didn’t have the chance to meet. If we had met sooner, if I had been your student in college, if I had joined your lab before you went down that path of no return, maybe things would have been different.”
Spider-Man caught Otto's punch.
“I’m also very sorry, Otto. When we met you, you were already beyond saving. Perhaps you had the chance to become someone else in the past, but you no longer have it.”
"you shut up!"
Otto's other fist was easily caught by Spider-Man, and he roared in near helplessness, "You imposter!"
"I became Spider-Man not because I was reborn as Peter Parker, but because I know how many people would die without Spider-Man."
What flooded into Otto was Spider-Man's memories, no, Spider-Man's story.
A child bitten by a mutated spider, in order to earn money to participate in a reality show, ignores a passing thief on the way, which inadvertently leads to the death of his uncle.
That was the first time he failed to save a single person.
Then there are one's lover, one's friends, one's respected sheriff, and even one's past enemies.
That young man named Peter Parker should have lost a lot.
Otto looked at Spider-Man, staring at him in disbelief. "You, you've been saving people all this time?"
That was all the other person said to Otto.
"I may not be the real Peter Parker."
No one has ever stipulated that just because someone is Peter Parker, he must bear the responsibility of being called Spider-Man.
"But I am still the Spider-Man of this world. This is my world, and my world needs a Spider-Man, and I will do my best."
Otto froze. He hesitated, taking two steps back uncertainly. And it was those two steps that made him realize something.
"Otto, you have lost."
"..."
It was Otto Octavia himself who chose a path of revenge from which there was no salvation.
He won't become a better Ultimate Spider-Man.
Peter opened his eyes. Only a moment had passed, and the aged Ultimate Octopus before him had completely fallen silent. Doctor Octopus was dead, utterly dead. His consciousness had dissipated before his eyes, ceasing to exist.
This was also Peter's purpose: to ensure that Otto Octavia would never be resurrected in any form, just as he told Otto: there was no way to save him.
Perhaps death is the only way to save him.
"Damn it..."
Before he could feel sadness or mourn for Otto, Peter's spider-sense rang louder than ever before. He took a deep breath and looked around. Cindy was swinging around him.
She just sensed something very... off.
"Are you ok?"
“Kang is here. I can see him. He’s gone to Avengers Tower. I have to stop him.”
Or perhaps they couldn't stop it. Peter shook his head. Cindy immediately tried to follow, but Peter refused her.
“You can’t come with me. If I fail, the whole world will be reshaped, and then, Cindy, you’ll have to find me.”
"But……"
Peter chose the simplest way to answer: he removed Cindy's mask, kissed her, and then put his own mask on.
"Find me."
"Can……"
Cindy Moon watched Peter Parker swing toward Avengers Tower, bewildered. What was he saying? Find him? Where was he going?
And that kiss...
Ignoring all of this, Peter arrived at the outer perimeter of Avengers Tower. Almost as soon as he entered, he saw Kang the Conqueror freeze everyone else in the room. Then, he carefully controlled the Cosmic Cube and placed it inside Avengers Tower.
Peter stealthily approached, getting as close as possible, until he was close enough, and then...
“I know you’re there, Spider-Man.”
Peter and Kahn placed their hands on the Cosmic Cube at the same time.
Conqueror Kang looked at Peter with a cold smile.
"But do you know how to use the Cosmic Cube? You won't have that chance."
"The Kang Dynasty has arrived."
