Chapter 507 One Day of Charity Banquet

The charity banquet remained the same as always, but there seemed to be some changes. As the saying goes, a kind person is often bullied. Ever since Martin Lee became the superhero "Mr. Negative" of the Defenders, it seems that more people dare to come to the charity banquet to cause trouble or freeload. However, unfortunately, Martin Lee is not a pure superhero—Mr. Negative also has serious mental problems and violent tendencies.

So now there aren't many people causing trouble.

"Good afternoon, Peter. And... this is Stacy, right?"

Although the two had actually met before, Felicia pretended not to know her, causing Gwen to raise an eyebrow. This wasn't just preferential treatment; it was a clear difference in how they addressed each other. Were these two actually very close?
Gwen looked at the two people with some suspicion. Was there some story here that she didn't know?
But without a doubt, Felicia didn't care much about Gwen's little scheme. Wearing an apron and oven mitts, she took the baking tray out of the oven and dumped everything onto the plate.

"Let them cool for a bit, then serve them to everyone."

Felicia said this, and then prepared to make the next batch of cookies. Looking at the full plate of cookies, Gwen had to admit that they smelled delicious.

"Let's go put on an apron, just a moment."

A little while later, she and Peter went to deliver cookies to the homeless people living at the charity banquet. At the information desk at the entrance of the charity banquet, many people were waiting for job-related information. They were all a group of people who longed to support themselves with their own abilities, which was good.

After delivering the cookies, Peter returned to the kitchen and saw Felicia rolling out dough. Without even looking up, she said, "Could you press the molds for me?"

Peter spotted the cookie cutters on the side, picked them up, and began pressing out imprints onto the rolled-out dough. Felicia was even somewhat surprised by his ability to control his strength.

"How did you come to the Ciyan Banquet?"

"Hmm? Probably because nothing much has happened. Kingpin, Tombstone, Hammerhead, Silvermane and the others are all in jail. The remaining New York mob bosses are all gone, just a few big shots and small fry."

With the powerful gangster boss gone, Felicia no longer needed to gather evidence to investigate their crimes. In fact, Felicia had been so idle lately that she was even following in her father's footsteps, looking for any artwork she could acquire.

Fortunately, she only thinks about it and doesn't actually take any action.

“Jessica’s condition is getting worse and worse. I know Uncle Jonathan is looking into ways to treat her, but I’m not sure if there’s enough time.”

Felicia then naturally steered the conversation to Jessica, and asked uncertainly, "I'm thinking, what if it's really too late..."

"It's definitely possible. You have to believe that your senior is strong enough, and you also have to believe in Dr. Jonathan."

Felicia didn't continue. She wasn't really sure why Peter Parker was so confident that Jonathan could cure Jessica; in her opinion, the success rate was actually quite low.

After letting out a helpless sigh, Felicia shook her head, then continued speaking.

"Of course I hope Jessica is okay, but if something happens to her... could you go check on her? After all, she's been looking for Spider-Man."

Thinking of this, Peter stopped his work and asked uncertainly, "Do you really think Senior Jessica doesn't know anything?" "...What do you mean?"

Felicia paused for a moment before listening to Peter's analysis: "She's always been very confident in her reasoning, hasn't she? And during her trip to Europe, she narrowed down the scope of Spider-Man quite a bit, so I don't think it would be surprising if she suspected me."

However, this did not happen, which probably only means that Jessica chose to stop the investigation for some reason.

Felicia paused for a moment, then sighed. Just then, Gwen walked over, and Peter conveniently made way for her, taking the space to put the pressed cookies onto a baking sheet and into the oven to bake, thus avoiding an awkward situation.

Unfortunately, the two girls seemed to quickly start chatting. At first, their conversation was relatively normal, but soon the topic shifted to other things. Felicia even started making up history.

“Of course I love it here. In fact, Peter recommended this place to me.” Felicia smiled. “He said it’s a great place for students and that it’s meaningful to help others.”

Peter felt Gwen's gaze, but he had no choice but to ignore it for the time being. After Gwen walked away again, he looked at Felicia helplessly.

"How come I remember you came to the charity banquet on your own? It has nothing to do with me?"

Felicia raised an eyebrow as if it were perfectly normal, and then asked, "What's wrong? Isn't it interesting to see girls who like you fighting over something like this?"

"You really have a terrible personality." He shook his head helplessly, then walked aside, intending to explain the truth to Gwen.

Just then, Peter received a phone call. He asked if he needed any help, and then hung up a little while later.

"what happened?"

Gwen, who was standing nearby, asked curiously. After Peter said "It's nothing," he explained what had happened.

"The captain and his team discovered clues about the Winter Soldier's operation, so the Avengers were dispatched to investigate. He told me to stay in New York and deal with other situations."

Peter shrugged. There was no doubt that Captain America was concerned for Peter's safety and thought it was better for Spider-Man to stay in New York. But this made Peter feel uneasy.

One point is that the Winter Soldier is a Hydra agent, and Otto is very likely connected to Hydra, especially from the Electro storyline, which shows this.

If Otto obtains enough intelligence to plan, then the sinister Six will probably strike soon.

I don't know the specifics of the situation...

Peter took a deep breath and continued working at the charity banquet. They didn't leave the banquet until the afternoon. He was now constantly on guard against the appearance of the sinister Six, but those guys certainly didn't show up.

Perhaps I'm just worrying unnecessarily?
