Chapter 501 Spider-Man: Year One (1)

What are your specific views on the "Registration Act for Criminals with Superpowers"?

"From the perspective of the purpose of this bill, I think it's a very good law, but in reality..."

Peter is being interviewed by MJ, or rather, mock interviewed, because of the heated debate that Congressman Kelly recently submitted to Congress regarding the "Registration of Superpowered Criminals Act"—don't get me wrong, many people aren't discussing whether this thing is beneficial or right or wrong, they're just looking for an opportunity to express their views.

For example, extreme voters within the Democratic Party believe that this bill is still discriminatory against mutants: after all, the vast majority of superhuman criminals are mutants, and this is just a reskinned version of the Mutant Registration Act. To be fair, this argument is quite absurd, like saying that anyone opposing freebies is racist because freebies are only bought by Black people.

Conversely, extreme voters of the Elephant Party believe this is a complete hoax, a political conspiracy orchestrated by the deep state, because many supervillains do not actually have superpowers. For example, the previously captured Thriller or Mysterio do not have superpowers at all but rely on high-tech crimes.

Is there some kind of conspiracy behind the government only registering crimes involving superpowers and not high-tech crimes?
The rights and wrongs of this matter are difficult to discuss.

"In other words, you believe that this bill has some merit and good intentions, but it is easy to fall into abuse."

MJ summarized Peter's words, noting that as an intern at the Daily Bugle, she and her employer had never needed to cater to extreme voters on either side. The Daily Bugle's consistently stated political stance was centrist, or the so-called silent majority, "common-sense ordinary people."

The fact that Daily Bugle's revenue has been declining over the years seems to prove something.

The outbreak of the Nimrod crisis was shrouded in mystery for the entire world from beginning to end. They were unaware that they had been invaded by an enemy from the future (now another universe), and no one would connect the destruction of AIM with mutants.

Even when Magneto publicly expressed his gratitude to the Avengers for their contributions to mutant rights, most people were still confused. Some even suspected that the Avengers had betrayed the country and taken Magneto's $500,000, and were then criticized for it, while Captain America was still in the team!
Besides, other effects caused by Nimrod are also obviously incomprehensible to others: why are the X-Men in Paris, where did that giant Sentinel in Paris come from, and so on.

Thinking about what happened next, Peter realized that the Academy had taken in a significant number of mutants under Rogue's care. Most of them had severe physical deformities and were easily discriminated against. Some were willing to go to the Academy. However, many more, after hearing that the X-Men could take them to Kenosha, chose to go to Kenosha instead.

It seems that, at least for the time being, Kenosha remains a paradise for mutants.

“Okay, at least I have some material to report to JJJ.” MJ said, closing his notebook. “You helped me out, how about I treat you to a meal, Peter?”

"Hmm? Oh, okay."

Beneath the Xavier Academy of Geniuses, Gambit Remy LeBron was temporarily "detained." In reality, the X-Men had no authority or authorization to detain prisoners, making this an undeniable illegal imprisonment.

But Gambit wasn't in a hurry. Since the X-Men hadn't fitted him with any mutant ability suppression collar, it meant he could leave whenever he wanted. Because of this, he wasn't in a rush and wanted to wait and see what tricks the X-Men were up to.

Soon, his interrogators arrived: one was the Rakshasa woman he had previously encountered and needed to protect, and the other was Logan, the Wolverine who had fought alongside him. Gambit was quite surprised to see Logan and couldn't help but exclaim, "You're still alive, brother!" "Enough nonsense, you bastard."

Logan sat down in front of Gambit and slammed his arm on the table: "Where is the ominous sign! And where is that child!"

"What, a father who lost his daughter is now planning to find her again? That's not a good idea, buddy. Even though we haven't known each other for long, I can tell..."

Before Gambit could finish speaking, Logan revealed his claws. He raised an eyebrow and shrugged: "I know, I know, a good cop and a bad cop, a combination that will never get old. If that's the case, why don't you just choose that telepathic lady from your team?"

"Because we don't want you to think of us as enemies. I've spoken with them, and I can tell you're not a bad person."

Upon hearing Rakshasa's words, Gambit nodded indifferently, just as he had said, one a good cop, one a bad cop.

"Just like I think you shouldn't know that the girl is actually a clone developed by Hydra, created as a weapon by the Weapons X division."

The Rakshasa woman's words snapped the carefree Gambit back to reality. He sat up straight and looked at her: "Wait, what did you say? Hydra? Nazis?"

"Yes, the Avengers had already confirmed this beforehand. Logan saw the girl at the Hydra base in Budapest, the 23rd product of the Weapon X project."

Gambit sighed and rubbed his forehead, wondering if Rakshasa was lying. How could a Frenchman be working for the Nazis? That was just too outrageous.

After a pause, Rakshasa asked first, "Where did you meet Mr. Ominous Sign, and why are you working for him?"

“I…” After a pause, Gambit chose to tell the truth: “A few years ago, my powers started to go out of control. Almost everything I touched would explode instantly, and I couldn’t control it. I met him when I was looking for a doctor. I thought he was a good person. He performed surgery on me and allowed me to regain control of my powers. As payment, I helped him out a bit—no exaggeration to say that I’m a master thief.”

Logan chuckled.

“Really, when you first went to Kenosha, I planted something on your plane, and I bet you haven’t even noticed it yet,” Gambit added. “A guy named Otto Octavia used some ominous signs to plant a program on your plane. You can go check it out.”

Chapter Two will be posted later, before 7 PM.
