Chapter 439 Budapest Night
Chapter 439 Budapest Night
On this night, some people are destined to be sleepless.
Felicia sat on the hotel rooftop, gazing absently at the moon. She wasn't actually thinking about anything, nor did she know what she should be thinking about. She was just sitting there, unable to sleep.
"So, I thought you might have trouble sleeping, so I brought you coffee. Sounds weird, right? It's like you're deliberately trying to keep someone awake."
Peter walked up the stairs to the rooftop and tossed a can of coffee at Felicia: "What are you thinking about?"
"I wonder when a kid who's just started high school will pretend to be all mature and come up to comfort someone."
Peter, who had just unscrewed his coffee, nearly choked on it. Felicia smiled, seemingly satisfied. "Well, actually, I wasn't thinking about anything. By the way, how about Venom? It seems like it would be difficult for him to fight alongside me."
"My condition isn't bad, but it's not great either. I'll just need to eat more chocolate and rest for a while."
Venom's current situation is a bit troublesome. Even with the increased resistance from absorbing Grendel, its weaknesses still exist. However, in most cases, Peter and Venom can defeat their opponents before suffering severe damage. But in situations like when Venom possessed Felicia, the symbiote's inherent instability makes it more prone to collapse.
What's more troublesome is that now everyone knows Spider-Man fights using a symbiote. Since that's the case, everyone who understands the properties of symbiotes will specifically develop and research methods to counter them. Venom greatly enhances Peter's basic abilities, but it also provides Peter with obvious weaknesses.
Simply put, Venom is falling behind Peter, and there aren't any powerful enough malevolent symbiotes on Earth for Venom to consume to level up. According to Venom himself, unless he can return to his home planet Klinta, this problem is somewhat unsolvable.
Peter didn't have a good solution for the time being, because Felicia's situation proved another, more troublesome issue: if he hadn't used Venom, the probability of others going out of control was very high. Of course, this wasn't absolute; if the symbiote had been parasitizing another for more than 48 hours, the Venom influenced by Peter could, in turn, affect others.
However, Peter doesn't really have a good solution for the Venom problem at the moment.
"You seem to be doing pretty well. Um, I'll be going now?"
"So, you just let a girl wait for you on the rooftop all night, letting the wind blow on her all night. Then you come to check on her, throw in a can of coffee, and go back?"
Why does that sound so strange?
Peter stopped and shrugged. Although it sounded strange, Felicia's words indicated that she was indeed in good spirits.
"To be honest, you guys are worrying about me a bit too much. I was a bit carried away at the time, but actually... I've thought about this for a long time. You know, the biggest advantage of planning these things is that you have plenty of time to be bored and think about what to do if you succeed."
“When I was a child, my dad told me a story. He said that in the old West, a man’s wife and daughter were killed by a gang of cowboys. He chased the cowboy for 30 years to avenge his family. When he finally found the cowboy, the cowboy was a paralyzed man in bed and had grown old.”
Whenever Felicia thought about revenge, she would think of this story. Felicia also remembered a conversation she had with her father when she was a child. She felt that the man was too pitiful in the end. He could have found a new life in the process of revenge and continued to live a new life after he had completed his revenge.
However, Felicia found that this was almost impossible. Just investigating her father's death and tracking down Hydra was something that would consume all her energy. In fact, if it weren't for the incident with Luke Cage, the whole thing might have made no progress at all.
“So, I’m lucky. Although I haven’t thought about what I should do after I succeed, I have enough time to think about it. I’m only seventeen.” Felicia said, patting her pants as she stood up. “Oh, I might have to wait a little while. After all, I have something else to do. A little boy asked me to make sure he doesn’t lose his mind while he’s taking revenge. I agreed.”
"Did you agree?"
"Maybe not then, but now I've agreed."
Felicia smiled and walked over to Peter's side. After thinking for a moment, she looked at Peter and said, "Speaking of which, I've always had a question."
"what?"
"Why do you think helping others is something...something you have to do? Like right now, nobody's asking you to do it, and there's no need for you to do it, but you still come up and see me, okay? You know, not every good deed you do in this world will bring you any benefits."
“If I did good deeds for personal gain, I would be a millionaire by now, and that would be a small fortune.” Peter shrugged. “There are many things that don’t need a reason. You do them because they’re right. Often, it’s because people are always thinking about how they can benefit from such things that more and more bad people emerge. If everyone thought about helping others, perhaps the world wouldn’t be in such a bad state.”
Peter thought of many people who weren't bad people to begin with, or were not beyond redemption. Like the clown next door said, sometimes all it takes to kill someone is a bad day.
In that case, it's good to minimize every bad day.
"Not everyone can be a good person. At the very least, you're losing out when others are getting the benefits. In fact, you could say that most people wouldn't do that."
“There is never such a thing as ‘it’s always right’, Felicia. Just like ‘everyone else is doing bad things, so if I don’t, I’m being antisocial,’ doing the right thing never needs a reason.”
Felicia couldn't help but laugh: "You didn't understand what I meant."
Peter looked at her, puzzled.
“What I mean is, people like you get nothing in return, while those people get all the benefits. It’s pathetic.” She said as she walked past Peter, but stopped halfway.
He lightly touched Peter's face with water.
"Don't get me wrong, this is just a reward. I don't like boys younger than me." Felicia walked away, then turned back and smiled at Peter: "Have a nice journey ahead, Spider-Man."
Peter stared blankly as Felicia left and closed the rooftop door. Only then did he realize that Venom was recuperating and had no one to complain to, so he could only complain to himself.
"Alright... Have a pleasant journey ahead, Spider-Man."
